Chapter 6: First Date

Oh my goodness...my actual first date...

With a fireball.

But hey, I'm not complaining. He's super cute. What I'm complaining about is how flirty Mary is being with my fireball. Every second of the date u can't manage to squeeze in a single word without Mary running up to Grillby and tuning the whole thing.

Words cannot explain how annoying it was.

Here I was standing right by Grillby, yet he doesn't spare a glance thanks to Mary on the other side of him. "Oh Grillby....sometimes I wonder if we could hang out privately sometimes. Your so funny~!" Mary said happily and giggled.

I flinched and felt my anger boiling up. I wonder how long it would take me to shove her face into a river to make her stop that stupid giggle.

"Talking to you with all these kids around is difficult. You don't suppose you could hang out this weekend, hm?" She asked, her eyes filling up with hope.

"I-"
"Sorry! We've actually got a date planned out." I interrupted Grillby and made my best fake smile at her. She snarled at me and let out a huff of air. "Yeah...sorry. Maybe another time." He said and she nodded.

"I suppose." She said and glared at me. I only smiled back and stayed close to Grillby. "Hey, about that date...where would you like to go?" I asked. I didn't really have things planned out, but we might as well do something we both enjoy doing instead of something only I enjoy doing.

"Hmm....perhaps we can go out to see a movie and go to dinner afterwards?" Grillby suggested and smiled gently at me. What a cutie. His smile only made me more determined to keep him away from Mary. "Sounds good!" I chirped happily.

"Then it's settled." He said and chuckled a bit. "What's so funny?" I asked, a tad confused by the chuckle. "Oh, nothing....I'm just really shocked that a cutie like you would ask someone like me on a date." He said and grinned, a pink blush running across his flames.

"What?! Are you saying I'm the cutie? Grillby! I'm surprised you even accepted! Your the one who's cute! I'm just....me." I said and giggled. His compliment did make me blush however. He's so nice....

Mary seemed quite pissed off. "I don't understand what you see in (Y/N). Their just so plain." Mary scoffed at me and looked away. "Maybe to you their not all great. But to me, their the world." Grillby said, his eyes glistening with hope.

I could only grin at Grillby. My heart was instantly warmed by him defending me. "...I'll see you later." She said and stormed off in the other direction.

Grillby and I walked home, discussing our past lives and our friends. "So, do you have a best friend?" I asked Grillby. He nodded. "I did fancy one of the monsters named Gaster." "Gaster?" I asked in confusion. The name didn't ring a bell.

Grillby sighed and looked off into the sky. "He never made it to the surface. One day we met up, and he said he probably wouldn't come back. I asked him why, but he never answered." He explained. "To this day, I never know where that guy went. But he has a special place in my heart."

I frowned and looked at my feet. "I wish I would've gotten to meet him.... I'm sorry he disappeared." I apologized. "I don't need any pity, don't worry. It wasn't your fault anyways." Grillby reassured and held my hand. He was wearing gloves, so it's all okay. I didn't burn myself.

I blushed and looked away in order to conceal it.

(TIME SKIP)

During the week, Mary kept getting closer and closer to Grillby, and being the nice guy he was, he didn't push away. It made me more and more...well...scared. I didn't want to lose Grillby, but it seemed to me that I was losing this battle.

Of course, I went to Undyne and Alphys for love advice. "J-just stay calm...I'm sure he still loves you f-for you, (Y/N)! I mean, h-he did agree to go out with you. He l-loves you for a reason." Alphys would say. "Mary ain't got nothing on you! On the date, make sure you make it so he can't get his mind off of you! Show him what your made of!" Undyne would say.

He began talking about Mary and how nice she was, and I could only remind him how mean she was to me. He only replied: "Even the worst people can change, (Y/N)."

Today, however, would be different. Today, there would be no Mary, just me and Grillby. This was my chance at redemption! Our date night. I was determined, but I couldn't help but get nervous. I mean, it was my first date after all.

I dressed up in a (F/C) (favorite color) short sleeved shirt with a black jean fabricated jacket over my shoulders. I wore some jeans and a (second favorite color) scarf. It looked nice to me. I didn't want to dress up all fancy. I mean, if we're going to get to know each other, might as well wear something comfortable.

Alphys and Undyne sent me encouragement through text:
ALPHYS: Your going to do great! :3
UNDYNE: Don't be nervous! Be yourself and you'll do fine! >:D

I was happy to have friends like them.

Knock knock!

I walked over to the door and opened it, to see Grillby standing before me, holding a bouquet of white flowers in his gloved hand. But to my surprise, he wasn't alone.

"W...what is Mary doing here...?!" I asked in surprise, taking a step back. "Oh! I thought she should tag along. She said she really wanted to get on your good side, so I offered her to come along!"

I yanked Grillby inside and slammed the door in front of Mary angrily. "(Y/N)!" Grillby shouted.

"Look, I don't appreciate all the time you two are spending together!" I said and frowned at him, folding my arms over my chest and glaring at him. "C'mon (Y/N). Where's your kindness? It's only the polite thing to do." He said and I shook my head.

"So, your saying it would be okay for me to bring another guy on our date?!" I barked at him. I was so mad, I didn't have time to stop and think about what I was saying. Words were just flying out of my mouth at this point. I was enraged...what thought went through his mind that told him to bring my enemy along?!

"Well, I guess not, but...hey, I didn't even know if you liked me like that or if we were just going on this date as friends!" He said in his defense. I thought about this, and he had a point. "...c'mon, I mean....maybe this would be a lot less harder on me if I didn't know if you loved Mary or not....plus, I hate her. You know that! Any girl that you had talked to less would possibly be better than her!" I said and looked at the floor.

I didn't know what to think anymore....I mean, we weren't official yet, so I guess I can't be that mad at him. But...still.

He hugged me and sighed. "Your right...I'm sorry I just wanted you two to get along...I didn't know it would upset you this much....I don't love Mary like that, okay?" He reassured. I hugged back and raised an eyebrow. "...promise?"

"I promise."

It's not like we could tell Mary to go home, so she came with in the end. It pissed me off how she ruined the date.

"This movie is great!" I said happily and smiled at Grillby. "Yeah, it's pretty good." He nodded in agreement. "Thanks for inviting me out." I shrugged. "Well, I knew you wouldn't, so I had no choice but to act." I said and he laughed a bit. "Your right."

"I'm glad anyways." I giggled at this and blushed a bit. "We all know this is just a fun date. If it was a real date, you two would be all over each other. Guess it wasn't meant to be! Maybe you'll do better with me?" Mary suggested and I glared at her.

Grillby looked ready to reply, so I cut him off. "I'm glad too. We should hang out more often." I said in response to his last comment, ignoring Mary as if she wasn't there. Grillby played along. "Yeah, maybe next weekend you could come to my place and we could hang out!" He recommended.

"I'd love to see your place!" I said excitedly.

There was a also a part in the movie where Grillby put an arm over me, and I rested my head on his shoulder. Right as I did, Mary spoiled the moment by saying she couldn't see and we needed to switch spots.

I refused, but she sat on me, and so I got annoyed and moved.

During dinner, she 'accidentally' tipped water over and it landed all over my clothes. So I rushed to the bathroom and when I came back Mary was in my spot and she was feeding Grillby his food as if he were a child!

I shoved her off my seat in response and told Grillby I wanted to leave soon.

It was terrible. He seemed sad that the date was being ruined, but I was more angry than sad.

As I got home, Mary kept nagging at Grillby to hurry up and say goodbye cause her mom wanted her home. "Come on! Grillby! You offered for me to come, and now you won't even let me get home?!" She rambled on angrily. "Just a sec." He said and leaned over to kiss my forehead.

My face went red but before his lips could touch my forehead, he was yanked back by the collar of his shirt and towards the car by Mary. "Your unbelievable!" I barked at her angrily. "M-Mary?! You are so impatient!" Grillby said in an annoyed tone of voice. "Bye (Y/N)!" He shouted, still being dragged away by Mary.

"Could that have gone any worse...." I mumbled angrily and closed the door. I had never felt so much hate towards a person in my entire life.

((This chapter was a little frustrating, but the next one won't be, I promise!))
