Chapter 5: Love?
The day after the sleepover, I had woken up early to go to school. I hurried and got dressed, then brushing my teeth and brushing my hair. I grabbed my bag and waited up for everyone else to get ready too.
"C'mon you slowpokes!" I shouted. Undyne and I were both quick to get ready. But the only difference is that Undyne was wide awake, and I was still half asleep. I was eating a small breakfast while I waited for the rest.
"Sorry! Sans is being very lazy at the moment!" Papyrus yelled from the bathroom. I chuckled. "He has to help Sans go to school?" I asked and Undyne sighed. "Yep...I can't believe how lazy that guy is." Undyne crossed her arms over her chest.
Alphys was tripping over herself as she rushed to get her bag ready. She was eating toast very fast, I was surprised she wasn't choking. Papyrus came out with Sans soon enough, Grillby following close behind. They were all sprinting towards the door.
Well, most of them. Sans was getting a piggy back ride from Papyrus. "What's the rush? We still have...." Undyne began, but her face went white when she checked the time. I was puzzled, but before I had a chance to realize what was happening, I was grabbed by the wrist and yanked outside.
"WE'RE SO DEAD!" Undyne shouted.
"I'm going to be late to school for the first time!" Alphys whined.
"Oh my god oh my god!" Grillby shouted.
"NYEEEEH!! WE MUST HURRY!" You know who.
"What time is it!?" I asked.
"Don't run so fast Papy...." Sans complained.
It was a miracle. I don't know how we made it. I mean, I even tripped over a rock and landed face first on the floor yet, thanks to the help of Alphys, I made a miraculous recovery and was able to make it right as the bell was about to ring. We were all panting and gasping for air.
I was out of breath, and I felt like I was about to die. This was like having to run a mile and being timed for a grade...only worse!
"We...*pant* should hurry *pant* to our classes...." Undyne said breathless. Undyne was an athlete, yet she was breathless. We all nodded in agreement and set off to our classes.
When it was time for lunch, I was surprised by Sans grabbing my arm before I could take a step inside the lunch room. "Huh...?" I asked and looked back at him. "Come with me real quick, won't you?" He asked and pulled me away from the lunchroom.
A wave of panic suddenly swept over me. "W-wait, won't someone find out we're gone?!" I asked worriedly. He only responded with a chuckle. "Not a chance." He said and looked back at me with a wink.
We turned towards the bathroom but suddenly...we were in the storage closet...? "Good shortcut, huh?" Sans asked with a chuckle. "I-I guess...." I said and shrugged. "Now, why did you want to see me?" I asked calmly.
"Look, Grillby, believe it or not, still doesn't believe that you forgive him. For crying out loud, the guy hasn't even forgiven himself. He's that considerate." Sans said and leaned against the wall.
"But let's get things straight here, okay? If anything, Grillby really really really likes you. Not as a friend, more than that. Which is part of the reason why he got shy when it came to talking to you."
"Why do you have to tell me this? Shouldn't it be him?" I asked and looked away. "You think he's really going to ask you out the way things are going right now?"
I froze in place. Good point...
"Okay...okay...and you want me to know this, why?" I asked. "I share the same class with this girl by the name of Mary. Ever heard of her?"
My eyes widened at the mention of the name. She was the head of the team that was mean at me and replaced me with Grillby.... "Y-yeah...what about it?" I asked again. "She's going to ask him on a date. Today." Sans stated.
I blew a fuse, but I couldn't understand why. Was it because I liked Grillby, or was it because there was no way I could let a b*tch like that get a guy as sweet as him? (Excuse my language) My face got boiling hot, and I gritted my teeth.
"Her friends were encouraging her to do it. They have been. But today, I think they did the trick. She's going to ask him right after school." Sans stated. There was no way Grillby would turn her down. He was too nice. What if he thought I hated him and there was no chance left? Would he just go out with her?
"Get my point here? If you don't love Grillby back, leave him to go out with her. But if you care, you'll ask him out. Oh, I gotta go....see you later."
And with that, he was gone. The ball rang a couple minutes after he disappeared I rushed over to my class to think things through, a couple kids were staring at me wondering how I had ended up in the storage closet.
School was about to end. I needed to ask Grillby...but how? What if he declined? Sans said he liked me...right? So I should be fine.... But if I ask him out, I'll have to really be in love with him. It would be cruel not to be.
Do I love him? Well, of course...things between me and him have brightened up a lot more thanks to the sleepover. I can get a better look at him through our dates. So, it's planned then.
Wait....Sans said Mary was in his class....
Grillby is in Sans's class!
I heard the bell go off and almost instantly jumped out of my seat. I hoisted my backpack onto my shoulders, but my teacher stopped me from running out of the classroom.
"The bell doesn't excuse you! I do!"
Then what the hell is the bell for?!
"Until every desk is cleaned, non of you are leaving this classroom!" The teacher ordered. I hurried to clean up my desk...god I hate teachers....
By the time she let us go, it was too late. Mary was already approaching Grillby...I've failed... I sighed and began to walk back home. No way that I could ask him now....
I had given up hope when I heard someone shout Mary's name. My head perked up as I noticed Sans rushing over to Mary to talk to her before she could reach Grillby. He was distracting her!
I ran as fast as I could over towards Grillby. He turned around to see me, his face surprised. "(Y/N)?" He asked before I jumped onto him, hugging him in the process. He stumbled back a bit from the impact, but got his balance back quickly.
I giggled as I embraced him in a warm hug. "(Y/N), this was surely a surprise...what's got you all riled up?" He asked. I giggled and looked up at him with a smile. "Grillby, will you go on a date with me?" I asked excitedly. Mary had obviously heard me and her face showed it.
She was angrier than ever, and I thought she was going to explode out of anger. Mary proceeded to yell her heart out at Sans about him interfering with her plan to ask Grillby out. Papyrus happened to save Sans from the lecture by swooping him up into his arms and carrying him home. Before Mary could slip in another word.
Grillby's fire got very red and he covered his face in embarrassment. "W-what?! Your a-asking me?! O-on a date?! (Y-Y/N), are you feeling alright? You must be crazy! You can't ask me out a-after all I've done to hurt you!!" Grillby exclaimed worriedly.
I giggled. "I'm feeling just fine. Look, this is a great way to move past all of that stuff! And I told you I forgive you, right? Since you don't believe my apology, this date will prove it." I said confidently and beamed with happiness.
"So, what do you say?" I asked. "W-well....well alright!" He said happily, his face still burning red. Mary's gaw dropped and looked about ready to hit the floor. "I'll see you on Saturday, then?" I asked. He nodded excitedly. "Great!" I said and he began to run off.
"I-I gotta go! See you later!" He said and ran off. Mary grabbed my shoulder and I turned around. "Something you need?" I asked with a grin. She looked ready to punch me in the face.
"Y...you knew I was going to ask him out today...didn't you...?!" She asked and balled her hand into a fist. I gulped nervously. As far as physical fights went, I was no match. Mary was in far better shape I was. And that's saying a lot.
"Who? Grillby? I didn't know you liked him that way." I lied and tried my best to look innocent. "You liar!" She said and began to throw a punch I me. I shut my eyes tightly and prepared myself...but opened them when I didn't feel anything.
"U...Undyne!" I said happily. She had stopped Mary and was growling at her. Mary's face went white, and she backed away. "If (Y/N) wants to ask Grillby out, they can. So back off." Undyne warned and Mary ran off as soon as she said that.
"T...thanks..." I said with a smile. "So...you like Grillby..." Undyne said slowly as she looked over at me. Alphys was right behind her looking at me worriedly. I sighed and looked at the floor. "..." "Or perhaps your just saying you like him so you can get back at Mary?"
"O-of course not!" I protested instantly. "Then?!" She asked angrily. I flinched at the sudden raise of voice. I felt my eyes begin to swell with tears. I felt I had betrayed her....I deserved this lecture. She sighed and put a hand on my shoulder. I looked at the floor in shame.
"Look, I just don't want you going out with someone just to get back at an enemy. Heck, I don't want Grillby to take the heartbreak when the enemy gets a boyfriend and you realize she's moved on! I'm just saying, please don't go breaking Grillby's heart...." Undyne said and I nodded.
"I should get going....I'm sorry Undyne....but I promise, I really do love him!" I stated. She smiled. "Okay...I believe you...but you better not be lying!" Undyne shouted. "Don't worry, I won't let you down!" I said with a confident smile.
So me and Undyne parted ways. Now all I had to do was prep myself for the date. Oh, and prep myself on how to fight, since Mary might get some wild ideas. Looks like this battle really isn't over between us....dammit....
((I worked super hard on this and now it's done! Hope you all liked it!
