Meredith Grey- Scrub Cap (c)

You and Meredith had gone to medical school together and become the closest of friends from it. Whenever there was an exam, which there was a lot of them, you would stay up for hours on end quizzing each other until you were both certain that you could pass the exam. It worked every time no matter how much one of you doubted your abilities. Meredith had more doubt than you. With a legacy to follow with her mother being one of the highest esteemed surgeons in the country, she felt as though she would never be good enough in comparison to her. Through your education, you had to be there as a shoulder to cry on for Meredith and also be able to encourage her that she was a talented surgeon in her own right.

It had been a lot of work but the two of you had gotten through medical school, your time as interns and now you were registered surgeons at Seattle Grace Hospital where you both had promising careers in surgery. There was a long road that you had travelled down and there would still be a long road ahead, but the main troubles had been faced now.

You were getting ready to head home after a twelve-hour shift which had quickly developed into well over twenty-four hours and you were beyond ready to go home and sleep until your next shift started. As you went to leave the staff room, Meredith caught you and asked for a minute. Heading back to her locker she handed you a small wrapped gift.

"It's not a lot but it is something to say thank you for all the help you gave me through school. I wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for you," she smiled softly.

"Don't be daft Meredith, you are an amazing surgeon, you don't need to thank me for anything," you said.

She forced the gift into your hands. "Please Y/N. I know I had the skill and smarts for it, but I didn't have the confidence, but you helped me with that."

You rolled your eyes at her not feeling as though you deserved the present, but you weren't going to say no again due to your curiosity.

"Is it a pony?" You asked playfully, shaking the present to see if you could hear anything but you couldn't.

She shot you a look knowing you were joking. You unwrapped it to find a box within it. Opening that you found a scrub cap in your favourite colour and your initials embroidered into the rim.

"It's beautiful thank you Meredith," you smiled, knowing you would wear it to your next surgery.
