Meredith Grey- Pumpkin (c)
You prodded one of the pumpkins with an outstretched finger.
"What about that one?" You said, not really seeing the difference between the one before you and all the other ones that grew out in the field that you stood in.
Meredith crouched down beside you, scrunching up her nose before shaking her head. She pointed to a little discoloured patch on it, a disgusted expression on her face.
"Look," she stated. "That one is gross. We need one that isn't horrible."
You rubbed the patch, most of it coming off with ease.
"Mere, it's a pumpkin in a field, all of them are gross. You can't expect them to be all clean seen as they are currently sat in literal mud," you frowned.
She stuck up her nose as she stood back up, walking away from the unworthy pumpkin to try and find another one that she actually wanted. It felt almost impossible for you to find a pumpkin that she wanted. You had already inspected a couple dozen of them but none of them seemed to fit her high standards which seemed impossible to meet.
"Just pick one. It's a goddamn fruit, none of them are going to be perfect unless you decide to buy a fake one," you huffed.
"They are vegetables not fruit," she argued.
You shook your head. "No. There are seeds inside, therefore it's a fruit."
Meredith paused, thinking over the statement as though it was a peculiar concept to come to terms with.
"So, does that make pumpkin pie, a fruit pie?"
You shrugged your shoulders. "At this rate it'll be no pie. Just pick a pumpkin so that I can empty it and turn it into a pie, and you can carve it into a jack o lantern."
She narrowed her eyes at you before going back to inspect every pumpkin she came across, having some excuse for why each one wasn't right. They were all too small or too big or too bumpy or too orange. You didn't understand her justification, but she had something to say.
"No one wants a weird looking jack o lantern," she stated.
You let out a loud and obnoxious sigh, picking up the nearest pumpkin, breaking the stalk so that you could hand it over to Meredith.
"There," you frowned. "That one. Just get that one."
Meredith rotated it, looking at every inch of the pumpkin, smiling up at you.
"It's perfect," she grinned. "Thank you."
You sighed with relief. "Finally."
