Lexie Grey- Work (c)

"It looks like we are going to be working together," you smiled sliding along the nurse's station to stand by the side of your girlfriend.

"Has Cristina asked to get rid of me?" She asked, an expression of fear upon her face.

You shook your head at her, resting a gentle hand upon hers, to give her a squeeze to reassure her. Although in a competitive profession Lexie was a fairly nervous and meek person who needed reassurance sometimes. Even if it wasn't something that was expected of a surgical intern, it was one of the things that you had found endearing when you first met. You fell tragically in love with her when you first met and every day you fell further and further in love with her.

Up until now you hadn't actually worked together now. You did your best to keep a professional stance on your relationship when at work, both knowing the patients came first ahead of anything personal between the two of you. As Lexie was an intern she was at the beck and call of her resident and seen as Cristina Yang was her resident, and she tended to annoy you with her attempts to suck up to you seen as you were the head of cardiothoracic surgery. You did your best to keep her at arm's length but as you had a surgery that was a one in a million, you couldn't deny her the chance to be on it as she was still learning and she had great promise as a cardiothoracic surgeon.

"No," you assured her. "Yang is still your resident, but she has begged to be on a surgery with me for months and I've only done this surgery twice in my career, I couldn't turn her down. So, you will be scrubbing in as well, but you'll still be at her mercy."

She gave you a warm smile, a gentle redness forming upon her cheeks.

"I'm glad we can finally work together. It always amazes me when I watch from the gallery, you have a real talent," she said softly.

You leaned in to press your lips to hers, not minding that you were at work, just happy that for once the two of you had the chance to work together.

"3," You heard shouted at Lexie.

The two of you pulled away to see Yang grimacing at you both.

"3! Stop fraternizing."

You tried your best to not laugh at her yelling. You turned back to Lexie who seemed terrified. "Better get back before she shouts again. I'll see you later."

"I love you," she smiled as she rushed back to her resident.
