Chance meeting part 1

A/n: this one's for the fems, female reader.

"I very much apologise for the inconvenience sir, but given the weather would you allow me to wait out the storm inside?"

Before you stood a tall, almost gothic butler. Who looked down at you, soaked and rather tired from carrying layers of wet petticoats.

"What on earth is a lady doing out in this weather?" He asked.

"I wasn't expecting such weather, I went out to buy an evening dress but it seems Mother Nature had other plans" you shrugged.

"You'll get sick if you stay out there in soaked clothes, I'll have the maid gather a replacement outfit and inform my master" the butler replied, allowing you inside.

"Thank you sir, it's much appreciated"

You squeezed out as much water from your hair and clothes as you could before stepping into the large manor, unsure if which of the many nobles it belonged. Although you did recall people talking about a mysterious butler with almost red looking eyes, he was quite the town mystery.

"May I ask your name ma'am?" The butler asked.

"(Y/n) (l/n), and you?" You replied.

"Oh, (l/n)! I believe my master has met with your father about company business. I'm Sebastian Michaelis, my lord being Ciel Phantomhive"

"Oh! Phantomhive! Yes I've heard of him, very young for an Earl apparently"

"Indeed, only 13. Although don't mention that to him, he likes to feel older than he is"

You snickered, expecting that attitude from a teenager. As Sebastian lead you through the manor, a clap of thunder rang outside and the sound of wind howled through the halls. That storm wasn't ending anytime soon. At the end of a long hall was an office, and when Sebastian opened the doors you were met with the Earl. Very young indeed, he sat at his desk reading over papers about something.

"My lord, the daughter of Mr (y/n) is here to keep out of the rain" Sebastian said.

Ciel looked up, a little surprised to see someone here unannounced.

"Oh, I see. What on earth were you doing out on the rain lady (y/n)?" Ciel asked.

"I was going to buy an evening gown but the weather had other plans. I was unaware it would rain so heavily. I apologise for my intrusion, if only we could have met under better circumstances. I know my father has met you before" you replied.

"Yes I am quite familiar with your father, he's invested in the toy company. Don't worry about intruding it's quite alright. No last should be out in such horrible weather, Sebastian have Mey-Rin prepare her some dry clothes and I'll call her father and inform him she's safe"

"Of course my lord" Sebastian replied.

"Thank you lord Phantomhive, your hospitality is much appreciated" you added.

Again being lead down the halls by the tallest butler you'd ever met, the weather outside only worsened as flashes of lighting lit up the sky and flashed though the windows.

"My this storm has gotten out of hand. It seems you'll be staying the night, I'll set you up with a room" Sebastian said.

"Thank you, I'd rather not have to walk home in... well, that" you replied.

Down in the back of the manor where the kitchen and laundry room were, you came across the maid in question almost tripping on her shoelaces with a basket of fresh laundry.

"Mey-Rin" Sebastian said.

"Wha- OH! Mr Sebastian! And... I believe I know you..." she replied, spotting you.

"(Y/n), daughter of Mr (l/n)" you replied.

"Oh yes! I know him! Nice to meet you lady (l/n)"

The maid seemed a bit ditzy but well spoken and managed to get her job done. Although that crack in her glasses ought to be fixed or she'd be running into walls.

"Mey-Rin please get lady (l/n) some dry clothes and have her warmed up. I'm off to prepare a room for the night for her" Sebastian said.

"Of course Mr Sebastian!" Mey-Rin replied.

Sebastian handed you off to the maid, who after quickly putting the laundry basket down in the laundry lead you to one of the spare rooms they used to store spare clothes and furniture. You both went through the closet looking for something warm that would fit you, and ended up with a thick nightgown that was both dry and the perfect size.

You dried off, got changed and had your wet clothes hung up by the fireplace to dry. Mey-Rin had you sit by the vanity so she could dry your hair and re-do it into something more comfortable.

"Thank you for all this, I'd hate to be out in that rain" you said.

"It's a good thing I bought the laundry in when I did! That storm came out of nowhere!" She replied, brushing out your damp hair.

"I know! I was just trying to buy a gown but that definitely didn't happen. I hope the wind isn't too loud, otherwise none of us will be able to sleep tonight"

"I hope not, the wind always keeps me and the others awake. Although I don't think Sebastian ever sleeps... he's always the last one to bed and first one awake"

"Maybe he's a demon" you joked.

"With those good looks anyone would think he's an incubus!" She joked back.

You both giggled at the comment, like school girls talking about their first crush.

"He is definitely a looker. But if I'm honest, ladies are quite beautiful as well" you said.

"Oh they are aren't they? Such beautiful features they have" Mey-Rin replied.

Pulling your hair back into two plats and looping them, it kept your hair off your shoulders and out of your way and would be something comfortable to sleep in later. No more dampness on your shoulders.

"There, you quite suit it actually" Mey Rin said.

"Thank you, it looks wonderful" you replied.

"I still have work to do so I'll let you go back upstairs and find Sebastian, he'll have something for you to do I'm sure"

With another thank you and a wave, you parted ways in the hall to go to your respective tasks. She was nice, you quite liked her. We're all of lord Phantomhives servants this nice?

The hallways of the manor were long and winding, and the staircase was grand and a task to climb with your tired legs. But you got to the top and found yourself back in the main area of the manor, the large common area where hallways opened to many different sections and rooms. You picked the middle one, remembering it as the one you came down.

As you made your way down the hall, a loud thump on the roof made you jump. You couldn't quite tell what it was, a branch breaking off a tree? Something the wind picked up? You shook it off and continued down the hall, but not for very long as you heard a window open behind you and a gust of cold wind send chills up your spine. Another thump followed by the windows slamming shut caught your off guard.

"Holy shit..." a voice muttered.

You turned to face it, and found a person also soaking wet having just climbed in the window. You made eye contact, and starred at each other a moment not expecting to see anyone else in the hall.

They... no she, it was girl. She had long red hair, completely soaked and dripping. Her red coat that hung off her shoulders stuck to her skin with the wetness. Mascara ran down her cheeks from the rain and her glasses fogged up when she came in from the cold into the warm.

"Oh! You're new. Haven't seen you in this place before" she spoke.

"Oh... I'm just here to stay out of the rain. My father knows the Earl" you replied.

"I see, you had the same idea as me then. That storm just came out of nowhere"

"Are you ok? You didn't get hurt out there did you?"

"Apart from slipping and falling a few times, I'm ok"

The girl caught her breath and looked down at her soaking clothes, shivering from the cold.

"Oh Sebastian is going to kill me for bringing water into the manor, oh well I can sweet talk my way out of it" she said.

"You know everyone? You've been here before?" You asked.

"Many times darling, for uh... work. The Earl isn't that fond of me but his butler is, he plays hard to get you see, always has this cold domineer but secretly, he's a softie. You should see him with cats!"

"So he's the mysterious with a hidden side type then? He definitely looks the part"

Speak of the devil and the devil shall appear, the noise had altered Sebastian of someone else entering the manor and he'd appeared behind the girl seemingly out of nowhere.

"What are you doing here Grell?" He sighed.

So that's her name, Grell. Unique name.

"Ah! Sebby darling! That storm just hit me out of nowhere! And you wouldn't let a lady stay soaking outside would you? You've already let another one in" she replied, trying to hug Sebastian only to dodged.

She was soaked after all.

"You always show up at the worst times... my master won't be happy" Sebastian replied.

"Oh but you are! I know it darling, under that handsome grumpy face of yours" Grell teased.

Sebastian sighed, looking outside at the storm that looked almost like a hurricane at this point.

"Fine. You know your way around go dry off... and no breaking things or death matches. If you intend on being a guest you better act like it. Now lady (l/n), do follow I'll show you to your room" Sebastian said.

"Ah! I knew you'd let me say, thanks sebby!" Grell cooed.

"Right... come miss (l/n)"

You followed Sebastian, leaving Grell to sort herself out. She seemed fun! High energy and full of flirty jabs.

"Complicated relationship?" You asked Sebastian.

"That's one way to put it. She's... energetic" he replied.

"She seems fun, but yes she is very high energy for someone as professional as you"

Down the hall, you were lead to your room for the night where you found a big, soft bed, the fireplace already going and other standard bedroom furniture. The room was already warm from the fire and you were eager to sit in front of it to warm up.

"The fire should stay lit all night as long as you top it up every so often, dinner is at 8pm in the main dining room and you may explore the manor and read or play games, if you know music you can use the music room and if you are an artist we do have plenty if art supplies as well. If you need anything I'll be wandering the halls attending to my duties or the other servants will be preparing dinner in the kitchen" Sebastian explained.

"Thank you, I think I'll read by the fire for a bit. I need to warm up" you replied.

"There's plenty of books here and in the library to choose from. And... of Grell decides to pester you just ignore her, she'll get bored. Otherwise I'll deal with her"

"I'll keep that in mind, although I'm sure she's not too crazy"

And so you were left to warm up in your room for the night, you browsed the books on the shelf and picked one that looked interesting. Sitting by the fire, you warmed up as you read occasionally hearing chatter down the halls and a crash or two of someone dropping something.

The Phantomhive manor and its inhabitants were rather nice, you quite liked it. And you definitely weren't expecting another girl to show up soaked and in need of shelter, what were the chances? It seems like the manor knows Grell well, and has a frenemies type relationship with her. Maybe you should talk to her... she seemed interesting...
