Chapter 5
"Oh boy," Grace said. "I might tackle Jonah when I get back up there," Jay said. I laughed. "Oh come on, it'll be fun," I said. We turned on our flashlights, and walked on. "Watch your step," Max warned. "Look," Jay said. Jay pointed toward the side of the cave, where there were huts, and crawl spaces. "What'd you find?" Jonah asked. "The ruins!" I said excitedly. "Going to Max," Jonah said. "Let's go in there!" Grace said so loud it was almost yelling. "No," I replied. "Why not?" Max asked. "Cave ins," I answered, "If one happened in there, we'd be goners!" We walked on, and no one argued with me, because they knew I was right. We talked, and Jonah went camera to camera. "Can I talk to you alone Alice?" Max asked. "Sure. Just hold on," I said, "Jonah switch cameras." Jonah answered, "O.K. Switching to Jay." "Incoming Jay!" I yelled, "O.K. What's up?" Max looked around, acting shy. There was something up. Max is never shy. "Well, uh," he shuttered, "do you wanna, erm, maybe if you wanna... Go on a date with me." The end shocked me. Date? I don't like you like that. But, I mean I love to try new things... "Let me think about it, O.K.?" Max nodded, and we walked on. A few minutes later, Jay came up to me, and asked, "Hey. Can I ask you something?" I nodded and said, "Sure." Jay looked at me smiling and said, "Wanna be my girlfriend?" The shocked me even more. Two boys like me? Alice Anniest? Am I dreaming? I quickly pinch my self hard, and realized it wasn't a dream. You know why? Because ooooowwww. That's why. I shook while saying, "Let me think about it." Jay nodded. We walked on. "Look!" Max said. "That's a hug wall," Jay said. We looked back at Grace to find her doing a little happy dance. We laughed. "What?" She asked with sass. "Oh, ha ha," she says realizing what we were laughing at. "Spread out," I say pointing from side to side. We walked around the rock wall, but couldn't find a way around it. "Going up?" Max said. "I guess so... Get the stuff Grace," I said. Grace gave us climbing stuff, and we started up. "On you, Alice," Jonah said. I climbed up on the top. I looked down and saw Grace, waiting for us. "Woah," I said, losing my balance. "Ahhh!" I yelled. I fell down, and landed on my back. "Alice!" Max, Jay, and Grace yelled. Jay hoped down from the top and landed on his feet. "Ooooowwww!" I said, moaning. "It's O.K. I'm here," Jay smiled, "Stay still. What hurts?" "M-my knee!" I yelled, "Ooooowwww!" Jay pulled out a wrap and wrapped aloe it around my knee. He helped me up. "Thanks," I said. "No problem," he said. I looked around, and saw Max and Grace around me too. "Can you lead, Max?" I asked "Sure," Max nodded. We walked on. Well, some of us, limped... Max has a great sense of direction, and it was really needed. We took a wrong turn and Max got us on the right path. "A fork in the road," Grace said, "Where we need to go?" Max looked both ways. "Thanks for helping me," I said. Jay helped me walk along the way. "Well you needed help," he smiled. "Left," Max said. We walked in the left cave, but it was a dead end. Rats ran across the floor. "Ahhhhh!" Grace yelled. "What's wrong?" I asked. Grace points toward a skeleton. "I'm outta here," she said. "Me too," I added. "O.K. Let's go," Max replied. We headed back out and went to the right. As we were walking I spotted a trap, and yelled, "Watch out!" Max stopped, and stepped over the trip wire. "Careful!" Max yelled as he points at a pressure plate. We walked on, then saw a huge door. "This might be it," Jay said. "To you, Alice," Jonah said. "That was some messily traps," I said. "Yeah," Grace snorted. "Well, let's check," Max added. Max opened the door, when arrows, and spears shot out of holes in the wall, spikes shooting out of the ground. "Oh boy," I said. "There's gotta be a way to stop this madness. Like a code, a keypad?" Jay said. "Maybe... Or a method or a pattern, to get through," Grace suggested. "Look around, try to find something," Max said. "To Max," Jonah said. "You gonna be O.K. alone?" Jay asked. "Yeah," I nodded. I limped over a rock and sat down. Everyone else was walking around exploring, and I just felt useless. My knee didn't hurt no more, but it was numb, and stiff, so it was hard to walk. "Look," Max said. I got up and limped over to Max. "A puzzle," I said. "Yep," Grace said. "I got this," Jay said. A minute later, the arrows, spears, and spikes stopped. "Wow," I said. We walked through. "Hey Max," I said. "Hi," Max said, "So, gold... Diamonds? What you wanna find?" I thought for a second, then I said, "Some emerald, I hope. I want a new birthstone necklace." You see, my birthday is in May, so emerald is my birthstone. "Cool," Max smiled, "I wanna make something..." My mind filled with curiosity. Though, I knew if he didn't tell me what it was at first, he wouldn't tell me. "On you, Alice," Jonah said. "Another door?" I asked, "Maybe there's treasure in there." Grace shrugged. "Can I open it?" Jay asked. "Sure," Max nodded. Jay walked up to the door, and opened it. I couldn't believe what I saw next.
