Chapter 7: The call
From the looks on his face I couldn't help but feel a shiver run down my spine, whatever Hussain wants us to see must be so not good.
Even after everyone was already at the door I just stood staring at them. "Let's go." Fati called.
"I will be right behind you." I lied because truthfully I am tired of all this already, I wish my life will go back to being normal.
"No, let's go you can't miss this."
With they all staring at me I had no choice but to follow behind them, when we got downstairs a breaking news was currently showing on the state news station. Yes you guessed right it was about the body in the Forrest reserve.
My friends keep staring back and forth between the television and me, "You must be the luckiest bastard in the world." Amin exclaimed one word at a time.
Seeing Fati's disapproving look Amin immediately changed his words, "I mean luckiest person in the world, Definitely the luckiest in the world."
"How did the police find the body so fast." Yusuf said unable to conceal his surprise.
"And even the state television got there." Hussain added.
I was so shocked I forgot myself for a minute. What the hell is happening?
"This is obviously a setup, someone must have call the police and informed them of the dead body." Fati said after a moment of shock.
"You are right there is no way the police will find out so fast, it looks like someone got you there and called the police." Yusuf said.
"You mean someone is trying to frame him for the murder." Amin pointed at me.
"It's pretty obvious." Hussain said.
"The question now is why is he trying to set you up." Fati's words prompted a questioning look from the rest.
"I don't know." I said in frustration.
"You know you can trust us, tell us those you offended this past week." Fati asked.
"Non that I remember, we have been busy preparing for the party." I sighed dejected.
Fati walk over sitting close to me and wrapping her hand around my should, "don't worry nothing bad will happen to you." She comforted.
This is one of the moments that makes putting up with her sassy behavior worth it. A moment of silence followed as everyone contemplates.
"I think we should tell your dad and he can report to the police." Yusuf suggested breaking up the silence.
Looking at each and everyone of them I could see the subtle agreement in their faces, maybe it's high time my dad hears of this.
With their support and silent encouragement I remove my phone from my front pockets, I opened the password and entered my contact list, staring at my dads number I took a deep breath trying to calm my madly pounding heart but no matter how deep a breath I took it just wouldn't slow down. After building enough courage and arranging all what I was going to tell him in my mind, I lift my thumb and was about to dial my dad's line when a call entered my line.
The call was from an unknown number but from the digits I could tell it was an MTN line. I raise my head staring at the rest and I could feel them subconsciously release the breath they were holding.
"Who is it." Yusuf asked.
Without saying a word I turned the phone over to them.
"Pick up already." Fati said.
I pick up the call and place the phone to my ears. "Hello." I said.
"Put the phone on speaker." a female voice said from the other side of the phone.
"Who are you and why do you want me to put the phone on speaker." I asked suspiciously. My words drew the attention of the others, making the move closer with questioning looks.
"I know you and your little group of friends are trying to figure out who is behind the recent killings in Green Hill, if you put the phone on speaker I might just tell you." The strange woman said.
Despite the shock and confusion I was feeling I still place the phone on speaker.
"Hello Amin, Yusuf, Fati, and Hussain." The strange woman greeted. They gave me a questioning look and I shrugged my shoulders indicating I didn't know who was on the line.
"You don't have to look at him that way, he is just as lost as you all are."
"Who are you." Amin asked.
"Who I am doesn't matter, you just need to know that I am Green Hill's future queen." The mysterious woman said. Her voice was calm and soothing but laced within was a deep pride.
"Am sorry but we only have a councilor." Hussain chuckle.
"Not for long." The mysterious woman said.
"What do you want? We don't have time for your jokes," Yusuf said irritated.
"OK let's get to businesses. You should not call your dad or else he might just end up missing an eye." The mysterious woman said, her voice sounding creepy at the last sentence.
Hearing her words we all stare at each other, shock and fear written all over our faces. How did she even know we are planning on telling my dad. "Y-y-you a-are the serial k-killer." Hussain stuttered.
"Don't call me that, I am not a serial killer." The strange woman snapped, making Hussain clamp his lips in fright.
"I probably would have done what I wanted without us even crossing paths, but you Abubakar just have to interfere."
The others raise their heads giving me puzzled looks.
"How did I interfere in you business," I half screamed.
"You don't know yet, but you will in the future when you realise your powers and grow into it. I can't wait for the challenge." The strange woman said with hatred.
"What power? I don't have any powers you must be mistaken," I hurriedly try to explain.
"I have warned you, tell anyone and that person dies. There deaths will be on you, I will mark your name on their flesh while also chanting it to there ears as they scream in agony. If you don't believe me you can go ahead and try. Oh before I forget see you soon Fatima." The strange woman threatened before bidding Fati farewell in a tender voice.
The call ended leaving us shell shocked. No matter how hard I try to understand what happened I just couldn't.
