Lily

It had been almost four weeks since Lily and Remus's conversation in the library, and against all odds it seemed as though James Potter actually had listened when Remus had told him not to ask Lily out.

Even though Lily wouldn't admit it to anyone, she actually missed the attention. Many times she had found her self watching the four boys, and then especially James. She didn't know why, or, at least she didn't want to know why, though still there was a little voice inside her who told her that she had feelings for him, a voice that told her to go up to him, to hug him, to kiss him, a voice that she tried not to hear.

The first weekend of November had come and today was a Hogsmeade day. Lily was of course going with her friends, but she couldn't help looking over towards the marauders, just to see whether James had some other girl to go with. He hadn't. He was going with his friends and a girl from sixth year called Ashley Stanton who Lily knew liked Sirius.

It was a wonderful day, a perfect day for a Hogsmeade trip. Lily and her friends started to walk towards the village together with all the other students. Alice was talking about the letter Frank had sent her.

'It was so cute,' she said and looked dreamily at her friends. 'He asked me to come home to him during our next Holliday. He told me that he had a surprise. Oh I can't wait to get to know what it is! So... where should we go?'

The girls stopped and looked around for a second. 'I would really like a butter beer,' Lily said.

'Yeah, me too,' Mary agreed. 'Though I need a new quill. Lily, d'you think that you could hold a table, just in case it's full. We'll be back any minute.'

'Yeah, sure,' Lily said and walked in to the three broomsticks. It was indeed very packed, but still it didn't take too long for Lily to find a table. She sat down in the back of the pub and started to wait for her friends. Not long after she sat down five persons came up to her and two of them sat down around the table.

'How nice of you to hold a table Evans!' Sirius Black said. Peter sat next to him. To Lily's surprise James didn't sit down. He stayed right behind Remus, looking as though he really wasn't in the mood for a butter beer.

'Lets find another table,' he said and looked around the room. For some reason Lily felt sad when he said that. As though she wanted him to sit down with her.

'There is no other table,' Black said and sighed at his friend's stupidity. Then he turned to Lily. 'Evans, is it Ok if we sit here?'

'Um...' Lily said. 'Well... my friends... but if there is no other table... ok, I guess.'

'Thank you, now James, Ashley and Remus, sit down.'

Remus, Ashley and James sat down and Sirius smiled. 'So, how nice to meet you here,' he said to Lily. She smiled shortly. She just wished that James would look at her instead of his own hands.

'So, what are you doing here all alone?' Remus asked. 'I mean, it looks slightly sad.'

'Oh I'm here with my friends. They should buy a quill and I said that I could hold a table while they were gone.'

'Oh,' Ashley said. 'Then maybe we should go, I mean if your friends come soon and-'

'No no,' Lily interrupted. 'You can sit here, there's no problem.' She smiled at them. Just a few weeks ago she would have been angry if they had sat down at her table, but now she didn't really care. The only thing she wanted was for James to stop looking so sad, for him to speak to her. 'So... have you been to any shop yet or did you come here the first thing you did?'

'Nah we've been to Zonko's,' Sirius said. 'Filch'll have to watch-'

'I'm sorry Evans,' James blurted out, making everyone look at him with chocked faces. 'I'm sorry I've been an arrogant prat, that I've asked you out all the time, even if you told me to stop. I'm really sorry, I understand if you're mad. I hope that you can find in your heart to forgive me.'

Lily looked at him for a while. She really hadn't expected that. Even more to her surprise James blushed and looked down at his hands again. James never blushed.

'I'm not mad James,' she said. 'And of course I forgive you.'

'Oooh! She called him James! She used his first name!' Sirius Black said and grinned. 'What'll happen next? Snogging in the moonlight.'

'Sirius!' Remus said and hit his friend in the back of his head.

'Ow Remus!' Sirius yelled. 'You're a big traitor, you know that?! First you kiss Evans and then you hurt me!'

'I did NOT kiss Lily.'

'You're a little bastard! A kissing, sadistic, lying bastard,' Sirius teased.

'What's going on here? Why are you sitting with them Lily?' a voice asked and Lily looked up from the amusing scene to see her friends sand in front of the table. 'I though that you were going to hold a table, and instead you sit with a gang of... of idiots,' Mary said angrily.

'Hey!' Sirius said and stood up. 'We are no idiots!'

Ashley stood up quickly too, and so did James, Peter and Remus. 'We should go now,' Ashley said and started to drag the boys towards the exit.

'Why did you sit with them?' Mary asked when the door had closed behind the marauders and Ashley. 'Wasn't it you who hated them.'

'They aren't that bad!' Lily argued. At times she really hated Mary. She could be so bossy and mean. It was Mary who had just ruined a perfect moment. 'They're nice!'

'They're not nice!'

'Nicer than you at least!' Lily yelled and then she stormed out of the three broomsticks. She didn't care if people were looking, she just wanted to get away from Mary. Stupid idiot Mary who didn't understand a thing.

She had felt so happy, so amazing when she sat with the marauders, but then her friends had come and of course they had to ruin everything.

Suddenly the sun didn't seem to shine to brightly any more, suddenly the birds didn't seem to sing as beautifully any more. Lily reached the edge of the village and was just about to turn out on the road back towards the castle when she collided with someone.

'Oh sorry!' she said quickly and blushed.

'My bad,' the person said. Lily recognized that voice directly. It was James. She blushed even more.

'I should've watched where I went,' Lily said and faked a smile. 'Excuse me. I'm going back to the castle so... if you could just...'

'I'll go with you,' James said quickly. 'I'm not really in the mood for a Hogsmeade trip today.'

'Welcome to the club,' Lily muttered and looked at her feet. They started to walk. No one spoke, it was completely quiet. Lily actually started to wish that he would say something. At least until he did so.

'Is it something that's bothering you Evans?' he asked. The one question Lily didn't want. 'Because you really look kind of down.'

'It's nothing,' Lily answered, deciding not to tell him that she actually was really sad, because her best friend thought she was an idiot and her other friends were on Mary's side. She didn't tell him that she felt very confused because she had hated him for ages and suddenly she started to wonder if she really hated him, suddenly there was a voice inside her who told her to kiss him either, because she thought that it would just be weird if she did tell him all that.

It was one of those things that she would have told Mary. At least if Mary wasn't angry with her. At least if Mary didn't hate James Potter, because Lily knew that if James wasn't James, Mary would understand and she would be able to tell Lily what was right, because that was one of those things that Mary was really good at. But now Mary wasn't there. Now Mary hated her.

Lily felt the tears burning, but she wouldn't cry. Mary was an idiot and Lily would not miss her. But still. They had always been so tight, so close, always been the best of friends.

'But I can see it's something. Does it have anything to do with your friend, MacDonald?'

Lily didn't answer, because she didn't think that she would be able to make it without that she started to cry. She just wished that he could shut up. He didn't do anything better.

'I don't think that you should let her make you sad. I've never really liked her actually. She's a bit stuck-up, don't you think. Sorry, I know you're friends. I guess that she can be nice.'

Lily tried as hard as she could to fight the tears, but now she lost. Slowly they started to fall down her cheeks. James looked horrified.

'Lily I'm so sorry!' he said and he did indeed look very sorry. 'I didn't mean to say anything mean... I... I'm sorry. I'm sure she's a great friend.'

They had stopped. The road was empty except for Lily and James. The sun was shining right at them but still, everything seemed dark and bad. 'It's just that,' Lily sobbed. 'It's just that we've been friends for so long and she's always hated you and now I'm afraid that she'll hate me and I don't want that because she's my best friend and I yelled to her that she's not nice. I feel so mean.'

'You're not mean Lily,' James said quietly. 'You're a wonderful person.' Then he took a step closer and hugged her. Nothing special, just a comforting hug, but still Lily felt as though all her inside was filled with butterflies and all sad feelings disappeared.

I'm sorry everything's going like, really fast right now. I mean, last chapter Lily hated James and now she's in love with him, wow. Well well, I hope you like it anyway.
