21: Somewhere To Be
Ryder's POV
Lunch was nice, we had fish and chips with some peas and mash, which was simple, but tasty. It seemed that mango was going to be something I ate everyday, after every meal. I especially got to know Nash and Hayes better.
"So I heard that you were a Royal Air Force Air Cadet, tell me more?" Nash asked, as we ate.
"Well, I joined 4 years ago, and when we turn 12 we're allowed to do weapon handling, and air experience flights," I started.
"Oh really? What flights do you guys use? I would guess it's something like the Chipmunk, or Bulldog,"
"Actually, it used to be, way before I was born, but it's currently the Grob Tutor. We go gliding too," I explained.
"Ah, the grob tutor, I've seen a few of those in my time. And for gliding, do you use Grob G103A Twin II Acro?" he asked.
"Yeah, I believe that's the official name. Us cadets knew it better as the Viking T1," I said. "The other name is a bit of a mouthful," we chuckled.
"Indeed it is," Hayes said, "Nash just likes to show off sometimes," he rolled his eyes.
Nash laughed off the comment. "When do you turn 13?"
"Next month, on the 14th," I responded.
"When you turn 14, I can give you flying lessons. 12/13 is a little bit young. You can help out around the hangars and stuff until then, but it's only a year or so, I'm sure you understand,"
I nodded, "Yeah, of course, I understand," I didn't even feel old enough to start flying. "Thank you, I appreciate it, it's always been my dream,"
Nash smiled, "Airlines would have been lucky to have a girl like you working for them," he said, before leaving to put his tray away.
Me and Sam did the same, before we went outside, to walk around the edge of the facility. "So what do you do all day?" I asked Sam.
"I'm glad you asked," He said, grinning. "I hope you join me on this from tomorrow," he added, before giving me a lay down of his average day.
"I wake up at 6:30, and get myself a protein shake.
Then, I go on a run-slash-jog around the perimeter.
That usually takes around half an hour, and then I get myself breakfast from 7-8.
I then go to that gym, and work out my legs.
Then, I have a nice filling lunch from 12-13.
Then, I workout my arms in the afternoon.
At around 4, I stop at Gray's and ask if he has any chores for me.
I go around, dropping things off for people and other things that need to be done.
Then I go for dinner from 6-7.
After dinner, I socialise with people, doing any other chores that needed to be done.
Then, I finish off the day with another perimeter jog.
Once I'm done, I get my sweaty ass into the shower, and go to bed," he stopped.
"Then repeat," he added.
"So you have quite a busy schedule huh?"
"Yeah, I don't always stick to it, but generally, that's it," he finished. "So what do you say?"
"What do you mean?" I asked, confused.
"Do you want to join me for most of it? Runs in the morning and evening, working out together, etc," he asked.
"I mean yeah, sure," I said. "Might as well join you,"
"I'm sorry if it seems like I'm clinging to you. I'm just not used to having someone my age around, or a roommate-"
"Sam, don't worry about it. I don't mind. It doesn't matter," I reassured him with an amused look on my face.
"Okay cool," he grinned, "Just checking,"
My phone rang, showing Gray's caller ID. "Hey," I said, answering.
"Hi Ryder, are you busy?" he asked.
"No, I'm just walking around with Sam," I said.
"Could you come up and see me and Rick? Tell Samuel he can come too," he said.
"Okay, sure," I said, before hanging up.
"I guess we have somewhere to be," Sam said, having heard the conversation.
