Piper "Pip" Hayden felt like she didn't belong anywhere.

After the death of her parents two years ago, she was put into the custody of her older sister, Nicole, and her husband James. Pip never felt like she belonged in their big, fancy house with more bedrooms than people or the backyard with the ginormous pool with crystal blue water. Pip had grown up in a tiny apartment where she shared a room with her sister her entire childhood and where the water pressure was always messed up.

But now, she felt more alone than ever. Her sister felt like a stranger. Their relationship was never the same after she had moved out. And Pip and James didn't get along, and were constantly at each other's throats. It seemed like they were in a never-ending argument, forcing Nicole to have to choose sides.

One day, while sitting at her parents' grave, Pip is visited by a man claiming to have known her father back in the day. He offers her the chance to learn more about her father's past and grants her the opportunity to follow in his footsteps by joining a dojo by the name of Cobra Kai. Pip reluctantly accepts, wanting to feel closer to her father.

After joining Cobra Kai, Pip feels like she finally found a place where she belonged and paves her own path as she strives to follow in her father's legacy. But Pip forgot the most important lesson her parents had taught her. Stay true to who you are and all your dreams will come true. Pip lets the ideologies of Cobra Kai consume her mind, causing her to lose sight of who she truly is.

Pip had great expectations, but those expectations came crashing down the moment she stepped foot into Cobra Kai.

and here it is folks, the fic that i came up with after listening to the song 'great expectations' from the outsiders musical.

it's also heavily inspired by and based on the novel by charles dickens (what i can remember from when i read it years ago at least & from look up the basic plot as a refresher).

that being said, yes, her nickname is pip because that's the nickname of the main character in the original novel. the last name gardner also alludes to the novel.

also pip & robby are the definition of broken characters who find solace in each other.
