Remember us

"Please Dylan! You can't just leave me like this! Dylan get back here! Dylan I was like your brother! Dylan!" A guy with a bird tattoo named Steve yells at me as I walk away from the Dingo and the rest of "my" gang.

I turn around, "I don't know you, I don't know any of them! I'm sorry, but you're my sisters friends not mine."

"Dylan! I was your friend first! Dylan please!" He screams.

I walk over to him as he cries, "listen, I'm sorry, but if I wouldn't forget people that I love like brothers. I wouldn't forget my best friends or my boyfriend. I wouldn't forget that kind of stuff. I wouldn't forget the house I spent days at."

"Then why'd you forget that Rylee died?"

"I don't know, but I remember that now. I'm sorry, but goodbye." I walk off once again. Why do those people think I know them?

"Dylan!" Dally calls out to me.

I walk over to him, "hey Dall what's up?"

"Nothin' much kid," he shrugs. "You?"

"Steve, that Two-bit guy, Sodapop, Ponyboy, Darry, and Johnny are relentless, I don't know them!" I yell out of anger.

"Yes, you do kid. You just don't remember them," he sighs.

"Dally? What do you mean?" I ask him as my voice cracks and tears swell in my eyes.

"Come with me," he sighs as he grabs my hand.

I walk with him to a small gas station called the DX

"Hey my name is Dylan and I'm new here. I don't know many people so I was wondering if I could talk to you, it's kind of lonely. My sibling are at school but, my mom told me I didn't have to go today," I say as I walk up to a really hot guy with movie star good looks

"Oh hi Dylan, my name is Sodapop. My younger brother is at school he's thirteen. How old are your siblings?" He asks .

********

"Sodapop! Stevie! I will kill you if you-" I scream, but get cut off as Steve tackles me to the ground and tickles me.

"How ya gonna kill us now?" Soda asks laughing his ass off.

"Sodapop!" I squeal.

**********

As this guy who Soda told me named Steve walks out I greet him as soon as I can, "hi, my name is Dylan. I'm new in Tulsa."

"Hello Dylan, my name is Steve," he smiles.

*************

"Hey Dylan!" Soda beams as he looks at me. "This is my girlfriend Sandy."

"Oh, she-she's pretty," I say shyly my voice laced with sadness.

"What's wrong Dyl?" Soda asks me.

"Nothing, I-I'm just tired, I might head home," I lie.

"No! Stay Dylan, I like hanging out with you and Sandy was leaving," he insists.

"Yea, I guess I was," the girl said in a bitchy tone. As she walks out she walks into my shoulder "accidently".

**********

"It's nothing. I just don't flirt or kiss guy's cheeks if they have a girlfriend. It's girl-code," I giggle.

"Well does that mean, I can't do this?" He yells as he throws a soapy sponge at me.

"Sodapop Curtis! I'm gonna get you!" I yell as I grab a bucket of soapy water and pour it all over his greasy hair. His hairs sticks to his head and he's drenched in water. He picks me up bridal style and carries me to right in front of the DX. I look at him skeptically before feeling ice-cold water get squirted on me. I look to see Sodapop laughing as he squirts me with the hose. "Sodapop!" I squeal as I try to block the water.

"What's wrong Dyl?" He asks. I look up at him shivering as my teeth chatter together he must of felt bad because he stopped and I took the time to take a sponge as throw it at him even though both out shirts were see through at this point. He looks at me and goes, "I'm gonna get you for that!" At this point we're both having a full blown water fight laughing our butts off. We're both soaking wet with soapy water.

************

I try to walk in but, get stopped by who I think is Dally, "hey!"

"Listen kid, I don't know what happened between you and Sodapop but, stay away from him, he's taken. He's happy with Sandy, when he came home the other night he went to bed crying. I've never seen Soda so torn up so you better stop coming around here," he shouts.

"I-I-I'm sorry. Can I just goodbye?" I ask as I wipe a stray tear off my face.

"Sure, but he's with Sandy so make it quick," he commands.

"Okay," I sigh. "Listen Dally, I care about Soda. I do, I really do. I want what's best for him so I'll go in there buy gum get one last look at him and walk out of his life forever."

"That's what I want to hear kid," he says coldly as I walk into the DX.

I look over to see Sodapop making out with Sandy. I grab two packs of gum and walk over to the counter slamming it down so he can hear. "Oh sorry ma'am," Soda says before looking at me.

I look at his gorgeous greased back hair, as I mumble, "no problem Soda," I can't help but, frown. I like him.

He looks up and our eyes lock, "Dylan?"

"Uh who?" I ask acting confused. Even though it kills me inside to do this I know I have to for Soda's happiness.

"Sorry, you just look like an old friend of mine," he sighs. I feel my heart shatter as he says "old friend."

"Yea no, my name is uh, Samantha," I lie quickly thinking of a name as he hands me a bag with my gum. "Goodbye Sodapop."

"Bye Sam," he shrugs. Before walking out of his life forever, I take one last glance at Sodapop. I feel tears stream down my face as I push myself out the door. I move over out of the view of the window and slide down the wall pulling my knees up to my chest and placing my head in my hands as I sob. "It's what you needed to do kid," I hear Dally's cold voice reply.

I look up at him with red puffy eyes, "I hope he's happy. I hope him and Sandy get married because, I only want what's best for him. I hope he only gets the best."

"Yea whatever," he says as he walks away leaving me there.

"Dally, I-I-I remember. Why didn't you take me here earlier? You know that when I see the places that it happened, I remember. So why didn't you take me here before? You saw what I was going through," I sob.

"I just didn't want Soda break your heart again," he admits. "Let's go to the Curtis house, that's where you met the gang.

"Okay." I sniffle.

We walk in an eerie silence until we get into the house.

He has chocolate all over his face, a beer in one hand, and a mickey mouse tank-top on. "Are you Darry?" I ask.

"No, what is a lovely lady like you doing here?" He replied with a question or a compliment thing, that I don't understand.

"Uh, I'm sorry is this the Curtis house?" I ask him back as I look at the address than down at the paper Soda gave me.

"Yes, it is. Who are you?" He asks.

"My name is Dylan, I met Soda and Steve yesterday than when I came down at the DX, Soda gave me his address so I could come over for dinner. Is this the right house?"

"Oh, you're a friend of Soda's and Steve's, please come in," he smiles as he moves out of the way. step in and look around the chaotic house. I see Soda and Steve wrestling on the floor, The guy at the door sit in front of the T.V. with cake and beer laughing to Mickey Mouse. I muscular guy sitting on a beat-up chair reading the paper. A tough looking guy leaning against a wall smoking a cigarette. I look over to see a darker boy sitting next to another boy who is reading. I lean against the other wall and watch as the chaos plays out. I go unnoticed for a while.

I stand there after ten minutes of nobody noticing me, I turn away sighing a little. I walk away going to leave the house but, as I open the door I hear Soda yell, "Dyl! Where are you going? I thought you were staying for dinner."

I turn around on one heel to see the crowd of boys now looking at me. I nervously pull at my dress as I clear my throat awkwardly. "Uh, I've been here for like ten to fifteen minutes and nothing, so I didn't know if I was welcomed or not."

"Dylan, you're defiantly welcomed," Soda smiles.

"Well Sodapop, then I'll stay," I smile back.

"They've been doing this thing all day. I don't know they were flirting with each other at the DX and always catching glances at each other as they smile at each other from across the room. I think Dylan's just a flirt like good ol' Sodapop over here," Steve announces making me blush.

*********

"Dyl, you coming?" I nod as I slowly walk towards the seat next to Sodapop weakly smiling at him. "So, I don't think you've properly met the gang. Dyl this is..."

"Ponyboy," the kid who was reading the book says.

"Johnny," the kid sitting next to Pony says barley above a whisper.

"Dally," the one guy who was smoking nods.

"Darry," the guy who cooked dinner stated.

"Two-bit," the guy who answered the door informs me.

"Dylan," I whisper back to them smiling slightly.

********

I wake up late the next day by a crying Sodapop barging through the door. I keep my eyes close not wanting to wake up but, listening to the converse between Soda and other people I can't recognize.

"Soda, what's wrong?"

"Sandy, sh-she broke up with me. I don't know what happened. She told me she was pregnant but, I was still willing to marry her but she told me no. I loved her," he sobbed.

"Shh it's okay little buddy. Dylan's here if it makes you feel any better."

"Dylan!" He replied his voice instantly perking up.

"On the couch, she's been asleep all day so don't feel bad waking her."

"Dylan. Dylan. Wake up Dyl," I hear Soda whisper as he shakes me slightly.

"Hello Soda," I reply groggily as I stretch.

"Hey Dyl," he smiles as bites his lip slightly.

"We should talk," I say as I stand up thanking Darry for letting me stay the night.

"Agreed," he sighs as he grabs my hand leading me out the door. "So, I'm gonna be really blunt....What's out status?"

"Friends?" I state more as I question.

"Best friends?" He asks.

I smile, I can't believe he still wants to be friends let alone best friends, "defiantly. Who did Sandy sleep with?"

"This Ryan guy who just got dumped," he shrugs.

"Whoops," I squeak.

"That was you!" He laughs.

"I guess we're both single," I smile looking down.

"I guess we are," he smiles back. "Hop on." He bends down and I jump on his back. This is perfect

***************

"Awe, I love you guys," I smile at the gang.

"We love you too Dyl," they all say.

************

I got handed the last gift from the gang, I look down at the tag, Sodapop. I open the small box to see an envelope and an even small purple velvet box with a black velvet bow on top of it. I open the envelope and read it quietly to myself,
"Dear Dylan,
You are so beautiful in every single way and I love hanging out with you. You make me smile all the time and you make me happy. When I'm around you it feels like all everything in the world is pure. Your smile, your laugh, your style, your walk, our hair, your voice, and your personality makes me go crazy. When our hands touch it's like electric pulses and that kiss. God! That kiss, it was great. I've never felt anything like it before and I want to feel that more. I don't want to call you friend. I don't want to call you my best friend. I want to call you my girlfriend. So, Dylan Rose Jueggers, will you be my girl?
-Sodapop Patrick Curtis."

He pulls out the box opening it to expose, a gorgeous silver chain that has a heart charm with a stunning red ruby in the middle as he asks, "will you?"

"Yes! Oh my god! Yes!" I yelled as I pecked his lips softly.

"Okay, lovebirds. My sister and I need to exchange gifts," Lexi laughs.

**************

I stand there tugging at my clothes before Pony picks up with Kendall in his arms, "hey Dyl. You could of just walked it."

"Hey Pone, I know. I just didn't feel comfortable with that giving the circumstances," I sigh sadly as I take Kendall into my arms.  I turn to see the gang still silent, "hey boys."

"Hey Dyl. We've missed ya," they say.

"Yea," I whisper sadly.

"You here to stay?" Darry asks.

"No, I'm just coming to pick up Kendall," I replied. I guess Pony didn't tell them, I was coming for dinner.

"I thought you were staying for dinner," Pony frowns.

"I as gonna, but I can't. I'm going out tonight," I sigh as I turn around to walk away.

"Wait!" Pony yelled. I turned back around to look at him, "I'll take Kendall until you're finished with you plans."

"Thanks," I sigh handing Pony Kendall and walking out.

"I'll walk you home," Sodapop says shyly as he stands up.

"I can walk home by myself," I snap angrily.

"Dylan, I know you can, but the socs. I couldn't stand worrying," he replies.

"Whatever," I roll my eyes.

****************

"Soda! Soda! Wake up! Sodapop!"

He groans before opening his eyes, 'Dylan?"

"Hey," I smile. "Can you lay with me?"

"You want me to?" He asks happily with a glimmer of hope in his eyes. I nod before sliding over. He climbs happily into bed. I snuggle up to him before laying my head onto his chest. I fall asleep nuzzled up ti my best friend, Sodapop. Before I fall asleep I hear him whisper, "goodnight Dylan. I love you so much."

"I love you too Sodapop," I whisper back. As I say that I feel his grip tighten and I close my eyes falling asleep.

***************

"Soda," I croak. "I don't want to go on this. I need the gang. I need you. Please, can we just go back to way things were?"

"I would love that. I think we shouldn't go already back. Can you please just forgive me? I want a redo," he admits.

"Forgive and forget," I smile as I hug him tightly

"Where to next?" I ask him.

"Inside the Dingo, there's a reason, I've told you to stay away from there. There's a reason Lexi and I don't allow you in," he informs me.

"Thanks Dally, for letting me remember my life," I smile hugging him tightly.

"It's your life not mine," he smiles.

We walk this time not in an eerie silence, but in excited squeals. When we get here I see the gang of my friends and I sit with them remembering everything.

I walk back to the table and my heart sinks shattering into a millions pieces as I see the scene play out in front of me. He is making-out with the waitress. "Soda," I croak out as tears form stream down my cheeks.

"Oh my god! Dylan. I'm so sorry. Let me ex-" he starts.

"NO! Don't!" I yell loudly as Alex walks out of the bathroom. I rip the necklace he gave me off my neck throwing it at him. "I never want to see you again! I never want to talk to you again! I hate you Sodapop Curtis!" I run out of the Dingo with tears streaming down my face.

"Dylan wait!" I hear Lexi yell.

I turn around, "I'm not going back there. No way. Not in this lifetime. I never want to see stupid Sodapop Curtis again!"

********

I don't stop until I get to the Dingo. I look over to see Soda with a greasy girl with jet black hair, huge bright blue eyes, bright red lipstick, size zero, girl laughing. I listen in to his conversation my heart breaking with every word, "I really like you Sodapop. I wish I would of came to the DX earlier."

"I know Kylie, same here. The good news is it's our one month anniversary," he smiles as he pulls out a small box.

"Soda, you shouldn't of!" She squeals.

"C'mon Kylie open it," he smiles. She looks at him smiling big as she takes off the big red bow opening the small box to reveal a small gold bangle bracelet that has Soda's Girl engraved in it. "I love you Kylie Elizabeth Thomas."

"I love you too Sodapop Micheal Curtis," she beams happily as she grabs his cheeks and forcefully kisses him as she slides the bracelet onto her small wrist.

************

I walk over to the table tears pounding down my cheeks, "I can't believe you Sodapop! I gave you a second chance and you ruin it!"

"Dylan?" He asks his eyes filled with worry.

"Who is she Sodapop?" Kylie asks.

"His girlfriend," I cry as I show her Soda's ring that is now on my finger.

"Soda, you told me you lost that!" She yells.

"No. he gave it to me," I cry. "I cared about you Soda. I gave you a second chance, but you're a cheater!"

"Dylan please, she means nothing to me," he pleads. "That's fake gold!"

"I don't care you-you-you-you you two-timing asshole!" I yell still crying as I throw his ring at him. "I never want to see you again!"

"I hate you Sodapop!" Kylie also yells throwing the crappy bracelet at him.

"I don't care if you hate me Kylie! I care about Dylan," he cries.

"Well, I don't care about you Soda," I cry as I run out of the restaurant sobbing leaving Sodapop standing outside in the cold balling yet he doesn't run after me. I break down at the lot sobbing loudly.

I look over to Dally, "why'd you take me here? I don't wanna remember what happened here! I hate it here!"

"Dylan, calm down," he soothes. "I told you, it's your life and I want you to remember everything. I want you to choose Soda knowing he cheated."

"You reminded her about my cheating of all things! You know I love her Dally! Why would you do that to me?" Soda yells.

"Well, I don't care what he did, he loves me and I love him. Right Sodapop?" I ask turning to look at him.

"Yes, I do," he smiles as he slides his ring back on my finger to show the world, I'm taken by the one and only Sodapop Curtis.

I turn to Steve and yell, "Stevie!"

"Dylan! You remember," he yells back happily.

"I remember everything," I smile at him. "I remember my love for the gang and being in love with Soda."

************

Happy ending?

Nope!
