Hospital

"Here is Dakota," the doctor states his voice laced with sympathy  as he hands me my stillborn son. I cradle him in my arms as tears come pounding down my cheeks. I've kept this a secret from the gang, even Soda since I've found out which has been a few hours. He looks at my face and continues in his gentle voice, "you know you didn't do anything wrong?" I nod slowly as I admire my baby boy.

I kiss Dakota's tiny forehead as I hold his ice cold body. I whisper into his tiny ear even though I know he won't hear, "I love you my baby boy. Mommy loves you with all her heart. I wish you would open your eyes Dakota. I remember when I found out about you, Uncle Stevie was so happy. All your Uncles and your one Aunt loves you very much. They're gonna be so upset when they find out about you. I love you baby boy. Daddy loves you. We all love you."

"Do you want me to go get the father, Sodapop Curtis?" The doctor asks. I nod as I continue to stare down at my little baby boy.

Soda walks in and looks over to me and Dakota, immediately bursts into tears. He walks over to us, now his face matching me as he sobs. "Is that Dakota?" I nod my head as I hand him Dakota. He kisses his heads as he sits down with Dakota repeating one thing over and over again to Dakota, "I love you baby boy, I love you Dakota. This is daddy speaking." As we hand Dakota away he plops down into bed and we lay down together not saying a word, but sobbing. "I'm gonna go get the gang."

I stop him before he leaves, "may I have a second with Lexi first?" He nods before he walks out.

It takes a few minutes until a crying Lexi comes in, "hi."

 "Lexi." my voice cracks.

"I'm here baby girl, I'm here," she cries as she grabs my hand.

I grab her lower stomach in a hug as I sob, "I didn't....I didn't do anything wrong....he told me I didn't anything wrong."

"Oh sweetie, I know. We all know you didn't do anything wrong," she cries. "We know Dylan. We know."

"They said, this doesn't happen a lot, but it happened to me," I sob. "Why did it have to happen to me?"

"I don't know Dylan," she says.

"Ca-can...can I see Steve?" I ask her. She nods as she walks out.

A few seconds later Steve walks through and in the silence I can hear Darry's voice talking to the gang, "Soda and Dylan, are never gonna be the same."

"She's a wreck," I hear Lexi.

I look over at him breaking the silence, "Stevie. I didn't do it. I didn't kill Dakota. I didn't do anything wrong."

"We know," he cries as he hugs me.

He hugs me tightly as he lays on my bed, "I don't get why it had to happen to my baby. He was dead in my stomach. He wasn't alive. He was okay just a day ago and now he's gone. He's not here anymore. He's just a baby."

"Dylan, I know I've told you this before, but please hear me out," he replies as he wipes the tears off his face. "Sodapop, he loves you, but he's not in love with you. I'm in love with you Dylan. You're laugh, you're smile, you're accent, you're voice, everything about you. I love the way you smile even though you're broken, how you can cheer anybody up. I love how you dance like a crazy person, not caring about anything, I love your kind nature and how strong you are. I'm in love with you Dylan, I love you so much and I can't imagine my life without you." Then he presses his lips up against mine and I go back to the night with Darry, instantly pushing his off.

"Steve, I'm in love with Sodapop, and he's in love with me. I don't care what you have to say about it," I snap.

"Dylan, just understand," he pleads.

"Just get out," I command. "I want Sodapop."

"I'm sorry Dylan," he whispers as he gets out.
