Chapter 33

Tim unlocks the station door and steps inside. Smiling as he locks the door back behind him. He heard Adam and Chance stop talking through the opened door leading to the garage. Something that he and Adam always had done.

"It's just me." Tim calls out to them.

"Tim?" Adam smiles as he comes through the door, seeing Tim in his uniform. He is followed by Chance, also smiling. "Rob didn't tell us that you were coming back today?

"Yeah, but I'm on light duty. I'll be behind the counter for a week." Tim says with a shrug.

"Sounds exciting." Chance laughs, being sarcastic.

"Tell me about it." Tim says as he walks over to the counter, turning on the computer.

"So is Rob coming in?" Adam asks.

"Yeah, there's a bunch of work he wants to do in the supply room so he said he could get started on that." Tim says as he gets the money from the safe.

"So how's the little woman." Adam asks as he gets him something to drink out of the drink machine.

"Awesome." Tim smiles as he slips on his glasses. "She got up and fixed me breakfast this morning."

"That won't last long." Adam laughs shaking his head. "Avi used to do that too when he first moved in. But not that much anymore."

"Really?" Tim frowns. "Dang. I kinda liked it too."

"And I guess she walked you to the door?" Adam smirks. "And kissed you good-bye?"

"Yeah." Tim answers slowly.

Adam laughs loudly and heads back to the garage shaking his head.

"GREAT TO HAVE YOU BACK, TIMMY!" Adam shouts from inside the garage.

"I think he's just giving you a hard time." Chance chuckles. "Austin fixes me breakfast every morning that I have to work and on weekends I fix him breakfast. And we've been together for four years."

"But Austin isn't a spoiled rich kid like Kirstie and Avi are. I could see them laying in bed making me and Adam feed them grapes." Tim laughs as he logs in on the computer. "So when do you plan on putting a ring on that boy's finger?"

"Soon. Real soon." Chance smiles before heading to the garage.

"Bout time!" Tim yells to him.

The sound of the door unlocking quickly grabs Tim's attention.

"Well, good morning, Tim." Rob smiles brightly. "So good to have you back."

"It's good to be back." Tim grins.

"You have everything already set up?" Rob asks.

"Yep." Tim yawns as he fixes himself a cup of coffee. "With 15 minutes to spare. So when is Kelsey's due date?" He asks.

"Next week. I'm so excited." Rob grins. "I was needing to talk to you about something."

"Alright. Can we talk outback so I can smoke?" Tim asks.

"Sure." Rob smiles and follows him out the back door.

"So what's up?" Tim asks after lighting him a cigarette.

"I've decided to keep Chance on as a mechanic." Rob starts.

Tim's face turns pale thinking that he was fixing to get fired.

"And?" Tim asks nervously.

"You've got more seniority than anyone here. You know the books, all the ordering for parts." Rob says.

"Yeah?" Tim asks still not knowing where this was going.

"I've decided to take some time off. Kelsey is due next week and I want to be there when she goes into labor." Rob says.

"I understand that." Tim says with a shrug.

"But I plan on staying off for a while to spend time with Kel and Lydia, once she's born." Rob says as he straightens his glasses.

"For how long?" Tim asks.

"I'm not sure, maybe three or four months. Maybe longer." Rob smiles. "I'm putting you in charge. And yes, there will be a raise involved."

"Wow." Tim says as he runs a hand through his hair.

"And yes, the other two already knows but were sworn to secrecy." Rob chuckles.

"I really don't know what to say." Tim chuckles.

"Say you'll do it." Rob says. "You coming back was perfect timing."

"Well, of course, I'll do it." Tim smiles widely. "Thank you."

As they went back inside, Rob headed for the back room and Tim went to the garage area.

"Y'all could have warned me. I thought I was fixing to get fired or something." Tim says.

"Rob threatened us if we said anything." Chance laughs.

"Congratulations." Adam says, giving Tim a hug.

"Thanks. I really needed that raise." Tim shakes his head. "I can't wait to tell Kirstie. Oh, she and Avi are bringing us all lunch today."

"Cool." Adam smiles as he opens the huge metal doors of the garage.

Tim goes and unlocks the door for a couple of customers that were already waiting. He could see that it was going to be a busy day. But the morning was always the busiest times. Things started to slow down by 11:30.

Tim was ringing up the last customer before lunch when he heard the buzzer of the door. Dreading on seeing an unscheduled customer, he glances up over the computer screen only to see his smiling girlfriend and Avi.

They were bearing gifts of two large pizzas.

He gives Kirstie a quick smile before turning his attention back to the customer.

As the customer was leaving, Rob comes out of the back room.

"Is that pizza I smell." He grins as he rubs his hands together.

"Yep, we have one pepperoni and one with everything." Avi says as he sits the pizza's on the counter.

They all sit down on stools that were there for waiting customers.

Just as Tim picks up a slice of pizza, a bell dings notifying that a customer had pulled up to the pumps.

"Well, that was short-lived." He says laying his pizza down and heading out the door.

"Uh, Avi?" Kirstie says as she watches Tim walk toward the car.

"Hmm?" Avi hums in response as he takes a bite of pizza.

"Please, tell me I'm wrong but is that Mitch's car?" She asks.

"You're not wrong." Avi answers.

"This can't end good." Adam says.
