Issue 3: Ghost of Spectre's Past
I walked through the halls of school thinking about yesterday. My mom was acting like a teenaged girl and wanted to know all the details. She kept asking questions like if she was cute and if she has a thing for mama's boys or not. It was like she was going to try to make us a couple or something. Like that would ever happen.
I walked upstairs and as soon as I got to the top, Winter walked in front of me.
"Hey, bestie!" She said.
"Why... why are you talking to me right now?" I asked her.
"Cuz we can't just walk to class in silence."
"I've done it for 10 years and nothing's stopped me before."
"Hey, so about that cool laser thing you did with your hand yesterday, are you like a cyborg or something?"
"Don't be stupid. Cyborgs don't exist."
"Okay then what's the answer?"
"Why would I tell you? Also, follow up, why are you still talking to me?"
"Cuz I'm your best friend, and cuz I'm your best friend."
"You're making a lot of assumptions right now." I said as we walked into class. I laid my head on my desk and tried to get in some more sleep.
"...Hey, so you never answered my question."
"Why haven't you left me alone yet?"
"Because you haven't answered my question."
"Is this going to be an everyday thing?"
"Uh huh." Winter said. I picked my head off of my desk and looked at her. "Hey so, you could literally obliterate this whole room so why are you such a bitch?"
"...You have ten seconds to reiterate that."
"I mean, why not just kill me if I annoy you so much?"
"So is that what this is? You have a death wish and you want me to erase you from existence?"
"Nope! This is two friends talking. Now is this going to be question number 2 you don't answer?"
"...Yes." I simply said with a barely visible smile on my face.
"Hey, new kid! You're in my seat!" Some guy said walking up to me.
"I've been here a month and you've never sat here." I said looking up at him. He was the size of a rhinoceros and breathed like a bull yet I was still unfazed.
"Well it's my seat today! Now get out!" He said. I laid my head back down on the desk trying to go back to sleep again. "Oh you're dead!" I heard the guy say.
"BRAYDEN NIXON!" The teacher shouted. I looked up and the guy's face was inches away from the top of my head. "PRINCIPLE'S OFFICE NOW!" The teacher added. So his name is Brayden Nixon. I'll be sure to remember that. Brayden walked out of the class as the teacher settled himself in.
"Why didn't you evaporate him?" Winter asked me.
"Why are you so set on the belief that I can blow people up?"
"Cuz I know when someone's holding back." She said.
"Now class," The teacher began to say. "We're going to be having a new student join the class today, so could you please introduce yourself?" He said. I looked up and saw who he was talking to. It was a girl with purple hair and a wide smile.
"What is she doing here?" I asked myself.
"You know her?" Winter asked me.
"Yeah, she's-"
"My name's Victoria Slater. I hope we all have a good time together!" She said with a smile on her face before walking to her seat. I watched her before looking back at Winter.
"She's been to every school I've went to since kindergarten and she's always been the most popular girl at school. We've never talked, though. The only time we've been near each other was actually when she stood next to me during a class photo on a field trip. She probably doesn't even know I exist, but like I said, I've been to five schools and she's been to every single one of them as well." I explained.
"Weird." Winter said.
"Very. Now shut up and let me sleep." I said laying my head down on my desk once more. To my surprise, Winter actually left me alone. The bell rang and I woke up to see Winter watching me.
"How was your sleep?" She asked me.
"Can you stop being weird?" I asked her.
"Are you ever going to answer one of my questions?" She asked me. I thought about saying 'no' but instead chose silence just to piss her off. I started walking out of class and Winter followed me. "And again, why didn't you blow that guy to smithereens?"
"Why are you so convinced I can do that?"
"I already told you, I know when somebody's holding back. Why did you hold back by the way?" Winter asked. I stayed silent. "Oh I get it... you like me don't you?"
"If you're going to insist on following me around everywhere, don't say stupid shit like that." I said.
"You totally do like me! How did you fall in love with the girl who tried to kill you!?"
"I don't like you. In fact, I think I despise you." I said.
"Oh yeah?" She said. "Then you wouldn't mind if I did this, then?" She asked before latching onto somebody else's arm. "Hi handsome~." She said. The guy started stammering.
"That's real cute. I couldn't care less if you swung from guy to guy like a prostitute on human monkey bars." I said. She looked back at me and smirked.
"That's cool. I'll meet you next period, K?" She said.
"Like I said I couldn't care le-" I started to say only to realize she wasn't listening and skipping a long with her new toy.
"Fucking bitch." I muttered to myself.
. . .
"Are you coming to class, Tori?" One of Victoria's newly made friends asked her.
"Yeah, I just got to get something from my locker! Be there in a sec!" She said before her friends walked away. Soon the hallways cleared and she opened her locker. She let out a dreamy sigh as she looked at all the pictures of (Y,N) in her locker, with a huge one of him and her from a field trip years ago in the middle. She pulled out her phone and looked at a picture she took of (Y,N) sleeping just twenty minutes ago. "You didn't think I'd just let you leave me, did you?" She said to the picture. "I'll always be there for you, no matter what." She said tracing her finger down his cheek in the big picture in the middle. She looked back down at the photo of (Y,N) she took earlier. "Don't worry, as soon as I get home, I'll add you to the collection." She said with a smile on her face before closing the locker and skipping to her next class.
