Issue 28: I'm Your Problem Now

I woke up to hear someone shouting in pain. My alarm clock was going off at the same time so that worked out. I lazily got up and heard the screams coming from the attic. I walked up and saw C-1 defeatedly retracting one of her robot arms after trying to grab a remote from across the room. I walked over and brought it over to her.

"Thanks..." She muttered. "...Why did you save me?"

"Stop saying that." I said.

"Alright, Fine... why did you not leave me to die?"

"... I don't know. I just felt kind of bad for you. It probably had something to do with me wanting to let you get revenge on the guys who did this to you, first." I said.

"Oh... well you don't have to worry about that." She said. "We actually killed them before we escaped."

"We?"

"Yeah. Me and my basically boss now. She had it a lot better off than me and is still mostly human. Actually without her all I had was the eyepatch and a shitty metal leg that didn't even work. She's a genius and she saved my life so I basically owe my life to her."

"So, why were you blowing shit up yesterday?" I asked her. C-1 stayed quiet. "I can always get Anonymous to interrogate you."

"You mean that question mark guy?" She asked terrified. I nodded and she sighed. "I told my boss about you guys and how you guys found a way to take me down even with all of my upgrades. A couple days back, my friend hired a shooter to kill this big important guy who was coming to Meteor. The assassination was already planned and was just to lure the governor away from his office. I don't know what she plans to do with it, but while we were out last night, she got some information off of the governor's computer. The shooter and I were then supposed to go out and take you and the bitch on one on one to stop you guys from stopping my friend's plan, considering when it was just one on one, I could've easily beaten either of you."

"Why would I care about whatever your friend is planning?"

"She said you could never be too sure. She didn't want you sticking your nose where it didn't belong. I opted to take out the red head bitch and that left you to the shooter."

"And what's the shooter's name?"

"I don't know. I used to know her code name but I'm pretty sure I got a concussion from the fall and my back up memory drive in the side of my head feels like it's totally smashed." She said. "Hey, Do you know any good shows that are on? I haven't watched tv since I was three." She asked.

"I usually spend my time sleeping so no I don't." I said. "I have to get ready for school, I'll visit you when I get back."

"Alright. I'll be waiting. I have fuck all to do, anyway." C-1 said.

. . .

"No sleep again last night?" Marie asked me.

"Uh huh." I muttered getting off her locker.

"Is it a coincidence that you keep falling asleep on my locker?"

"Actually I wanted to talk to you." I said. "I was wondering if I could... uhhhhh... get your number... so we can finish talking about the carnival!" I said.

"O-oh! S-Sure! It's-"

"Hey, bestie!" Winter said walking up to us. She actually had a cut underneath her left eye and she seemed to be favoring one of her arms.

"What happened to you?" I asked her.

"Oh. Got into a bit of trouble last night causing havoc. Y'know, the usual." Winter said.

"You know I can arrest you, right?" Marie asked Winter.

"No you can't." Winter said booping Marie on the nose. "I know how you guys work. Freedom Fuckhead won't let you touch me unless I'm directly endangering people. Kind of rules only a scum bag self-mark would set. Right, (Y,N)?"

"You know... I know you're trying to play me... but you've got a point." I said.

"I know, right?" Winter said. "Hey, can I see you for a sec? We'll see you later Macy." Winter said before pulling me away.

"What do you want?" I asked her before she handed me something. It was a necklace.

"Alright, listen, I know you act like you don't like me and like I'm a bother to you. But I know that if you really hated me you'd've thrown me in jail or something. So I got you this as a thanks for being a good friend. You don't have to wear it. I didn't know what else to get you since I've never had a friend before you so al my other experiences with friends were from movies and none of them were movies about two smart asses with a shared interest in blowing people up. But yeah, thanks bestie." She said. I looked at the necklace. It had a W on it and I noticed she was wearing a necklace with the first letter of my name on it.

"No one's gotten me a gift like this in a long time." I said. "...Thanks."

"Don't mention it... you can go back to pretending you don't have a super big crush on me now."

"That's not pretending. I don't have a crush on you and the necklace makes me barely consider you an actual friend." I said.

"I knew I was gonna crack you eventually! Let's see how long until you admit you do like like me." She teased.

"Didn't you hear what I just said? I don't like you like that." I said.

"The first step to fixing the problem is admitting you have one." Winter said sticking her tongue out.

"Okay So you see why I don't like you. You're a walking problem." I said.

"Yeah but I'm your walking problem." Winter said.
