Issue 10: "All the Whores and Politicians Will Look Up and Shout 'Save Us!'..."

I walked home by myself like usual. Mom wasn't going to be home like usual, she had to go out to get new winter stuff. It shouldn't be an all day thing but she likes to look at everything she sees and debate whether she wants to buy it or not even if it's not what she went to the store for. I got home and noticed the window was broken. Glass covered the grass in front of my house. I instantly readied myself. I slowly opened the door and crept into the house. I tried to listen to any sign of life before-

"Hello, (Y,N)." I nearly shit myself before turning around and seeing someone reading a newspaper. He looked up at me through his black cloth mask with a red question mark on the front, his only physical feature you could see being his dirty blonde hair. A green and black turtleneck sweater covered his torso, a brown suit coat covered his arms, black leather gloves on his hands, brown slacks on his legs, and black, bloodstained boots on his feet.

"Oh, h-hey, Anonymous." I said.

"Nice weather, wouldn't you say?" He asked going back to reading his newspaper.

"Uh, yeah, s-sure." I stammered. "If you don't mind me asking, what're you doing here?" I asked him. He closed the newspaper.

"Don't mean to bother you. Just came to say hello. Thought you'd get out of school earlier. Got tired of waiting and ate leftover pizza I found in the fridge. Hope you don't mind."

"Oh, yeah, no, that's fine!"

"Also heard clothing store blew up not too long ago here. No casualties, cash register and safe cleaned. Possible money simply disintegrated with the cash register and safe but that wouldn't explain how workers being paid minimum wage became upper middle class in the dead of night. Explosion similar to the ones at Sexy Spectre crime scenes back in the day. Wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you?"

"Okay, listen, I kinda let my feelings get the better of me but-"

"I'm not mad at what you did.-"

"Oh thank god."

"Like I said, no one died, poorest of the poor now living the American dream. But I can't approve of what you did either. Those same people who are temporarily financially secure because of you will also waste that money in a heartbeat. Heard a Ms. Sullivan worked there. Has a retarded child. Already spent the 900 dollars on her doorstep on crystal meth. Busted this morning. Child taken to orphanage. System isn't kind to the mentally challenged." Anonymous said. As he did he walked around the house looking at all of our things. "If you want to help the world then I'd suggest doing something different."

"That's actually what I'm doing today! I just came to find-"

"Mask." Anonymous said throwing it to me. "Found it out in open. Bad move. If, say, police or neighbor saw it, you'd be in jail. Hide it when you aren't wearing it. Suggest underneath floorboards. Maybe underneath shoes inside of a shoebox." He said.

"A-alright." I said.

"That's not the only reason I'm here. Heard heroes are coming back. So are villains. Also heard they're showing up in Meteor."

"You probably scared them all out of Watchtown." I said nervously laughing before stopping as he began to stare at me.

"Wanted to investigate myself and warn you and Ms. (L,N) to get out before things get hectic."

"I've seen what the 'heroes' and 'villains' look like, I think we'll be fine." I said. Anonymous stared at me again before walking closer.

"There's always a calm before the storm. And once more, I suggest getting out while you can." He said. "Also heard Freedom Fighter's here."

"Yeah, I've met some of his lackies. Told them what you told me." I said.

"Good kid. Never change." He told me making me smile a little bit. "Stay in school. Eat vegetables. Don't do drugs. Never be famous. Always be Anonymous." He said before opening up a window. "See ya."

"Shouldn't you wait for it to get dark? Someone's probably going to see you." I asked him. He gave me that creepy stare through his mask again. I'd be lying if it didn't inspire mine as well. He's the only guy in the world who still intimidates the hell out of me.

"If people do see me, what are they going to do?" He asked simply before jumping out. I sighed before taking out my phone and texting my mom.

(Y,N): Anonymous came to visit.

Mom: ...Window, Door, or Chimney?

(Y,N): Window.

Mom: God Dammit! What did he want?

(Y,N): To get out before the superhero problem gets really bad.

Mom: Isn't he the same guy who refuses to leave Watchtown? I'll be home soon.

(Y,N): Okay Im going out.

Mom: To do what exactly?

(Y,N): ...Community service.

I put her on mute before she said anything else. I looked through the closet and found and old black coat Mom never wears. I buttoned it up and walked out the house before finding an alley way to put my mask on in. Soon enough the orange sky was pitch black. Rain soon followed. I still hid in the shadows. Meteor is by no way as dangerous as Watchtown was according to Mom. Not everyone's a gang member and the prostitutes aren't all carry a Saturday Night Surprise in between their boobs. But I don't know how people will respond to a faceless guy walking around in all black. I heard someone scream for help and watched in disgust as people speed walked away from the abandoned warehouse it came from. No one took out their phone to call the police, all the held the girl received was a man give a worried look back at the warehouse before fleeing the scene. Well, that was accept for me. I leaped as high as I could, getting my hands on a ledge before climbing up. I kicked a window open before crawling in. I landed on a catwalk above a group of guys surrounding a girl. The roof was ripped partly off so thunder and lightning roared outside as rain dampened the already rusty machines.

"What the hell was that?" One of the guys said. "Did one of the windows just break?"

"Have you looked around? This whole place is falling apart." Another one said. They were all in matching blue denim. The girl was pleading with them but they weren't listening. One of them backhanded her.

"SHUT UP!" He shouted. I started to get ready to make my presence felt. "Keep crying all you want but no body's here to save you! So shut your fucking mouth or-" A huge stone hit him in the skull dropping him down. Everyone including me looked to the front door to see the red head I fought with the other day standing there surrounded by rocks.

"There's a lot more where that came from you sick sons of bitches." She said with a surprisingly menacing glare. The others weren't phased however.

"Alright, psycho bitch, if you haven't noticed, it's still nine against one! Throw all the rocks you want but they're not going to save neither your or her's asses!" One of them shouted. That's when I dropped down to the ground and on the opposite side of the goons before I stuck my hands in my pockets.

"What about me?" I asked.
