Chapter 31

Gabe

"So she's due when Reid is planning to kill her last life," I restated what Kota had explained. "Victor and Sean are here now and under the spell, but somehow, both of us are still clear-headed. I wonder why that is?"

Kota thought for a moment then offered, "Maybe it's a combination of our powers. We both have a connection to the spirit world. What if something about the spell is connected to it as well and that's why Gray comes and goes in them? She had a lucid moment with Silas, then another with Sean. Could we find a way to trigger another one?"

I ran my hand through my hair in frustration, "I don't know, and even if we get her to see the truth, what about the rest? How do we get all of us out of this damned spell and kill those fuckers once and for all?"

"We need to get everyone to the hospital with her," Kota muttered, then snapped his fingers, a truly terrifying expression covering his face. "We're elementals, let's stir up some magic and force people to the hospital. Reid won't be able to do anything if the whole damn town is there."

"What do you have in mind?" I asked.

Kota shrugged, "Nikolai caused thunderstorms and flooding, how about we do some mild earthquakes and a twister? The hospital is a designated shelter so people will naturally flock there."

"That just might work, then we can perform the spell and find a way out of this shit."

"What if someone gets hurt?" Luke asked softly from the doorway. We both jumped, not realizing he had been listening. "What if she gets hurt or something happens to the baby in all of the chaos?"

I held my hand out to him. "It will be okay, love. We can control where events happen and use it to basically corral everyone to safety."

"What if they notice? Won't they come after you?" His eyes filled with fear as he squeezed my hand. Even though the spell had a hold over him, since our talk, he was connecting the dots rather quickly. It made me wonder if Silas was having the same flashes.

"I know they will realize it, but it's the best chance we've got," Kota told him. "Just stay close to Gabe when everything starts and you'll be okay."

I looked at the calendar, "Thirteen days." We all fell into silence as we realized how close it was.
