The Sound of Silence (Bill Temple)

Hello, darkness, my old friend

I see you've come to us again

Like a vision quietly seeping

You spread your seeds while we are breathing

And the vision now scattered through the world

Still unfurls

Creating sounds of silence

And restless nights, awake, alone

Pondering future yet unknown

Shadows underneath lone street lamps

People masked in isolation camps

My eyes are blurred by the fevers in the night

My strength is smite

Enveloped in the sound of silence

And in the T.V. light I saw

Ten thousand people, maybe more

People talking without speaking

People hearing without listening

People reaching out in voices so unclear

It filled the air

Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools," said I, "You should have known

Panic like a cancer grows

Fear will overtake and reshape you

Greed will torment and alter you."

But my words like silent raindrops fell

And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people ran astray

By insanity and crazed

Ignored the signs and the warnings

They watched the Reaper, in mourning

And the signs they flashed like a neon God

That fell

Accepting hell

And suffered in the sounds of silence

(Suffering in the silence of a new worldwide panic COVID-19)
