Episode 5: Late-O-Ween
Mabel grumbled as she shifted through the costumes at Gravity Rises' only convenience store. She couldn't believe how rude Dipper was to Gideon! They were having fun and Dipper just had to pull her away like that!
And she thought she got jealous. Finally, she stopped at a costume.
"Perfect." She whispered. Smiling, she pulled it out and ran straight to a dressing room.
Once she came out she was sporting a short blue dress with black and white stripes trimming the bottom of it and the long sleeves. It came with a small white apron with black lace trimming it as well.
She was also wearing black and white striped leggings that were surprisingly warm and she was sure could bear the wintry cold. A black and blue satchel for candywas strapped around her torso. Speaking of torsos, it had a sash that came out behind her in a bow.
In her hair was a black bunny-eared wire bow and around her neck was a watch necklace. Her shoes were prim black mary janes. She smiled at her appearance.
"Dipper!" She exclaimed as he got up to examine her. "Your turn!" Switching her clothes she immediately went to look for something that would fit him. Finding it, she shoved the outfit into her brother's hands and pushed him into a dressing room.
When he stepped out he was sporting gray and light blue striped ears and cat tail. His shirt was striped the same way and was long-sleeved, showing off his pawed gloves. His boots looked like paws as well.
Playing with the bell choker he walked up to Mabel. "Hey! You did good!"
Mabel giggled as she pushed him back into the dressing room. "Go get changed, silly!" It was the girliest thing you would catch her doing. As said boy was getting changed another costume caught her eye.
Well, it couldn't hurt to get an extra.... She thought as she snatched it and put it in her basket under her own costume. Once Dipper got out she payed for their costumes and left.
At the Museum Mabel studied the Journal until Dipper called her to get changed. She wasn't really that excited since it wasn't actually Halloween and no ghosts would be out roaming.
After getting changed into her outfit she shivered at the aspect of trudging through snow in the middle of the night.
"We're off, Ford, Melody!" She called to make sure they knew they were leaving. Thinking back to how she'd dread this night the hairs on the back of her neck started to rise as she felt like someone, or something, was watching her.
Maybe it's a Hide-Behind.... She thought, shivering at the aspect of the faceless monster being anywhere near her.
"C'mon, Mabel! I promised Candi and Gray we'd meet up with them at the park!" Dipper shouted at Mabel's unloving form. She hadn't even realized she stopped walking and she had to run to catch up with Dipper.
"Sorry," she mumbled as she caught her breath. Mabel kept on hearing eerie incoherent whispers. She inched closer to Dipper as she tried to not breathe, as if she didn't want the whispers to following her breathing.
Finally the duo made it to the park. Luckily, Mabel and Dipper weren't freezing so their warm costumes did the job. Candi was wearing a mummy costume with wraps all over him and Gray was a zombie with his tattered 'Cool' shirt.
"We all haven't been formally introduced yet," Dipper stated, "so I hope you'll get along. Candi, Gray, this is my twin sister, Mabel Pines." Mabel smiled tightly whilst Candi and Gray had a huge smile on their faces.
"I never knew you have a sister!" Candi smiled thoughtfully.
"A twin sister at that! That's so cool!" Gray exclaimed.
Mabel let her hair fall in front of her face shyly. "I-It's nice to meet you. I hope my brother wasn't being...." She had to look for the right word before she could continue, "overwhelming." She smiled.
Dipper clapped his hands together triumphantly. "Alright! Let's get this party star-" A scream cut him off.
Bewildered, Mabel quickly found the source of the sound. A group if teenagers cowered in fear of some... creature.
It had unnaturally long legs and arms, which made it look like slender, except it was wearing a green pumpkin Halloween mask over it's faceless head. It was also wearing a raggedy brown suit and a raggedy brown witch hat.
The color drained from Mabel's face as she recognized the presence. The thing that was following her wasn't a Hide-Behind. No, it was something much worse. It was the creature that was standing right before her.
A/N Hey guys! I hope you enjoyed this less than average amount of words chapter! Okay, so I usually get in about 1000 or 900 words per chapter, which is just about the bare minimum a chapter should be. But hey! I can't make that sort of time when a perfectly good cliffhanger is waiting right there for you!
