Chapter 2: How y/n met ✨the others.✨

(Y/N POV)

I woke up to the sound of creaking. As I always do. I am a little paranoid about it, but I would have worse problems if I didn't clean this place up when I came into contact with it. Like giant spiders. Yeah, they're real and horrifying. Like half-spiders. They ended up giving me haunting nightmares for a week. :D

Yeah, it was hard getting those things out of the house. But, thanks to my expert cleaning (unfortunately used against me at times), this place looked brand new in no time! The floors were shiny, the lights were working, and the roaches were killed(It's funny how dumb they were). I'm kind of a smartie in a lot of things, so fixing electricity and making meals isn't much of a challenge for me.

"Y/n Lyn, you'll be late for school!" Mistress Chloe, one of the more old-fashioned ghosts exclaimed. I just call her Miss Chloe, Aunt Chloe or Chloe, though. Miss Chloe has a british accent, short brown puffy hair, purple lipstick with a matching hat, dress, and umbrella, and pale skin. She tends to be very forgetful at times, so she definitely forgot that I don't go to school anymore.

"Aunt Chloe, I haven't gone to school since I was 5. Besides, today's the day I explore, remember?" I reminded her.

Every Sunday, I walk around this town trying to find...literally anything out of the ordinary.

That usually shouldn't be very hard, though. I've had suspicions of this town since Day 1, and the flying Dorito incident proves it all. I also definetly have more nicknames for him than that.

But, I still try to find out as much as I can. Be prepared for any challenge or weird thing that comes my way. Any freak of nature that dares try to-

"Oh, yes! I remember now." Chloe suddenly shouts, making me jump a bit.

...(sigh)...Gosh dang it, she always has to ruin my heroic internal dialogue.

I clear my throat in embarrassment and go over to my desk, where my journal, phone, headphones and (glasses/sunglasses) were. I had used a blowtorch to widen the ghost-seeing monocle and used it to replace one of the lens in my (glasses/sunglasses) so, whenever I put them on, I could see my ghost friends(Yay!).

Just as I was about to head out the door, Vinnie popped up in front of me making me trip and fall on my back. Her figure floated above me with a smile on her face. Then I saw her older brother, Evan, look at me with worry.

"Vinnie, if you do that again I will punch you in my sleep," I threatened with a glare as I got up. Evan walked up to me and smiled. "I would pay money to see that."

I rolled my eyes and walked past Vinnie, waving to the others before leaving. I plugged my headphones in and placed them in my ears, playing "Mary On A Cross," as I walked along the path. (You can pick another song if u want, I just really like this song)

I walked around for a bit while mumbling the song. I started skipping and hopping on rocks as though there was lava under them. Until I tripped. I bumped into someone and landed on my back. I looked up to see a ginger chick with a black tank top, ripped jeans, a green flannel sweater tied around her waist, and on her head lied a small baseball cap with a blue pine tree on it.

"Woah, dude, are you ok?" The girl asks, her voice laced with concern as she crouches and reaches her hand out to me with a smile. I hesitate before taking it and she helps me up. She smiles at me.

"I'm fine, don't sweat it. I just need to watch where I'm going," I reply with a smile. Then I add, "Sorry for bumping into you, by the way. I'm y/n." She grins back at me and tips her cap. "I'm Wendy. Nice to meet'cha." Her name sounded familiar. Wait, was she that girl who got into a fight and won? (I'll ask her...)

"Are you that teen who got into a fight with the local bully? What's the name again..." I mumble the last part, then snap my fingers as it comes to mind. "Oh! Wendy Corduroy, right?"

She seems to grumble a bit as I mention her name. I look around confused, then look back at her. "...Is something wrong...?"

"What do you mean, 'Is there something wrong?' I hate my last name. Everyone always makes fun of it." She crosses her arms and stares at the ground as she explains her reason to me for being upset.

Ok, now I'm even more confused. What the HECK IS WRONG WITH CORDUROY?!? It sounds like a cool and unique last name! What is there to make fun of?

"What's wrong with your last name? It sounds rad to me." I tell her truthfully. She widens her eyes and looks up before looking down at me. Dang, I feel short.

Her smile returned as she let her hands fall to her sided. "That's what I ask everyone else! ...Hey, I like your moxie, kid. Where you off to, anyway?"

"Nowhere in particular, just exploring. What about you?" I ask her. She rolls her eyes a bit and says one word. "Work."

"Where do you work?" I didn't want to seem like a creep, but she was the first human friend I made(Except for two very specific twins, heehee), and I wanted to get to know more about her. She raises an eyebrow, a smug smirk on her face. "Mystery Shack. Why, you lookin' for a job?"

I thought about the question for a moment. I am free all the time, There's nothing waiting for me back home, and I could use the money, so...

I squinted my eyes with a smirk. "As a matter of fact, I am." I finally reply as I look up at her. Jeez, my neck hurts from looking up at her so many times. What kind of tall genes does she have? My thoughts were interrupted by her ruffling my hair.

"Alright then, follow me."
