Saving lives

The boy with the freckles and white styled hair looked up in shock. If it wasn't for Dipper's quick thinking, forgiveness, and kindest of heart, he would surely have been a goner.

"Dipper..." Gideon said. "You just saved me."

The boy in the blue pine tree hat turned to Gideon. Dipper could hear how serious Gideon's voice was. It was almost as if someone new had finally broken through in him, other than a snotty, selfish, nine-year-old brat. It was almost as if Gideon had become more appreciative of Dipper.

"I - I don't know what to say." Gideon stuttered. "Th - thanks?"

"Don't mention it." Dipper breathed.

Gideon and Mabel laid eyes on each other. "Mabel." Gideon said, with a bow, trying to be a tolerable gentleman.

"Ew." Mabel said, sticking out her tongue. Though it wasn't her idea to save Gideon, she couldn't help but still be disgusted in him.

Marco's voice broke through, his head popped out from outside of the glass box. "Uh, guys? You have got to see this."

Dipper offered a hand to help Gideon off the ground. Gideon hesitated for a moment and then accepted Dipper's hand. As Mabel, Gideon, and Dipper came outside of the casing, they found a truly startling sight. Nothing had survived the wand's blast. The castle was burnt to the ground. The monsters had all been disintegrated. All five of the kids stayed silent.

Gazing at the open, destroyed land in front of him, Gideon understood just how gallant Dipper's actions were. Gideon had been saved by the person he hated most. His mouth hung open with astonishment.

It came with no warning and could easily be mistaken for a meteorite. It was Star's wand. It struck the ground with a powerful force. When it landed, a pink fog took over the sky. Star ran over first and everyone staggered quickly behind her. As the fog cleared, the blonde's hair blew wildly in the wind of the blast. The wand made a deep and huge pit from its harsh landing. Star stopped right on the edge of the gaping ditch. With a look of grief on her face, she turned to Marco next to her. He had the same facial expressions. Though his hair was short, it still blew gently in the breeze. Star and Marco gazed upon each other for another second before pulling one another close into a long, tight, and embracing hug.

While Star hugged Marco close, she could sense his warmth. She clenched her hands into fists, clutching firmly to the back of Marco's grey T-shirt. Star's nose also picked up his scent. He smelled a bit like sweat and pine needles. He shook a little as if he had been drained of all his strength. It wasn't long until she forgot she was just hugging her best friend. Secretly, Star never wanted this bittersweet hug to end.

Marco held Star like he hadn't even seen her in a million years. He did have his doubts in the beginning about Star, destroying her wand. Fortunately, in the end, it didn't matter because he was now holding her in his arms. The boy attempted to make his body cease from trembling. He had lost his energy from fighting. His knuckles still pounded with numbness, but still, he didn't care. Now that Star was here with him, he didn't have a care in the world.

Not only had Star been successful in rescuing Marco, Dipper had rescued Gideon. Though, in their ending, Gideon and Dipper did not hug. Gideon was still in shock and Dipper probably still needed to get used to him. Mabel stood by for only two more seconds before heading over to the hugging couple. Star felt arms wrap around her waist. When she opened her eyes to see who it was, she found Mabel. Smiling, she welcomed her into the group hug.

Meanwhile, Gideon and Dipper stood awkwardly in the background, not planning to join in any time soon. Casually sticking his hands in his vest pockets, Dipper decided to stay back. Gideon, on the other hand, was still processing everything that had just occurred. But it wasn't long until a certain yellow, triangular demon came into view. All the dimension's colors had been consumed to a dull grey. Everything, that is, except for the kids.

"Well," a voice boomed in front of them. "Isn't this a touching moment?"

"Great. As if we don't have enough problems already." Dipper said under his breath.

Star and Marco gazed upon the floating triangle. They weren't as frightened as Dipper and Mabel appeared to be. The demon hovered over to Gideon, twirling his golden cane.

"I would really like to stay, but I believe Shortstack and I have a bargain to fulfill." Bill put his arm around Gideon's shoulder, like they were best buds.

Gideon kept a cold, stern face. While Bill talked, Gideon turned to Dipper for a millisecond with raised eyebrows, then back.

"C'mon. What do you say, kid?"

Gideon inhaled and then exhaled. "I say, 'no'."

"No?" Bill mocked. "Did you just say...'no'?!"

Dipper, too, was caught off guard. Gideon was serious. He was calling off his deal with Bill, once again. Dipper thought for a second. That wasn't the Gideon he grew to know. Why would he do this? Dipper thought Gideon was all about getting rid of him and his family. So, why would he do this?

Gideon had his chance, however he didn't agree to it. He crossed his arms at Bill, as if to say, “You heard me.”
