Goodbye to the brother I thought I knew

Stan had just come back to see his brother, Stanford at his home in Gravity Falls. Back then, it had been ten years since Stan had even seen Stanford. Stanford invited his brother because he believed he was the only one that he could trust and talk to. Stanford feared he was losing his mind.

He needed to show his twin brother his machine and to hide Journal 1. Stan did not appreciate his brother's offer. After being separated for ten long years, Stanford was not giving Stan the kind of welcome he was expecting. After ten long years, his brother was just asking him to go back far away from each other just to hide a dumb book just so nobody would be able to operate his machine. All Stanford did was worry about himself and only think about his own issues.

Stanford thought he was doing his brother a favor, giving him the chance to do something worthwhile in his whole life. Stan and his brother ended up fighting. Stanford pushed his brother up against a panel with many different levers, making the portal glow blue. None of them noticed, however, and continued pushing each other for the Journal 1.

"You ruined my life!" Stan angrily yelled, playing tug-of-war with the Journal 1 to get it out of Stanford's hands.

"You ruined your own life!" Stanford grunted, pushing Stan away with his foot.

The heavy push sent Stan up against the side of Stanford's desk where a heated symbol burned. Next to the symbol, was a "Caution: Extremely Hot" sign. Stan felt the heat sear through his coat and then through his skin. He let out a painful, loud groan. Stan realized his brother was hurt by the scorching, red symbol that was on the side of his work desk. Stanford got up on his feet, frightened.

"Stanley! Oh my gosh!" He said with a face of shock. "I'm so sorry! Are you-"

Before he could finish his sentence, Stan got up and uppercut him clean in the face. On Stan's right shoulder was a red, irritated burn mark of the symbol. Stanford tried to keep his balance from his twin's strong punch. He stumbled and fell over the lever that activated his portal, drowning the basement in a baby blue light.

Stan approached Stanford while clutching on to his numbing shoulder. Before his eyes, his brother was picked up by the surrounding absence of gravity.

"Woah, woah, woah! Stanley!" Stanford pleaded. "Help me, Stanley!"

Stan watched helplessly as his brother was sucked farther and farther into his impending doom. In Stanford's hands was his journal, Journal 1. With every second, every inch that Stanford reached the portal's evil eye, he realized he was leaving.

He acted fast and threw the journal to Stan, who caught it effortlessly. Then, a white blinding light knocked Stan off his feet. The machine's light faded and left Stan on the ground with the Journal 1. When Stan opened his eyes, it was not his brother he saw, but his glasses. Stan ran up to the machine, desperately pounding it with his bare hands.

"No! Stanford! Please!" He turned back to the lever that his brother tripped over and attempted to pull the broken lever back. Unfortunately, he was not successful.

"Stanford! Stanford!" He continued to shout at the empty portal's eye. No response. Stanford was gone.

And with all the days that turned into weeks, months, years. Stan did not give up hope. Even after thirty years when it seemed clear he was completely gone. His brother's soul still burned inside of him, beating in his heart. He didn't even want to think that he was dead. He was still out there, somewhere. He refused to believe it. Even after thirty years, he would still be breathing beyond that portal.
