Broken families

Star gently approached Mabel, who was still letting her cry be heard. She just sat where she was with her hands covering her eyes. Her nose got stuffy and she soon found herself swallowing tears and snot. Her cheeks felt puffy. The tears in her eyes made her vision slightly blurry.

"Uhh...are you...okay?" A girl's voice rang in.

A shadow, hovering over the poor young girl, sitting on the cement floor. Mabel looked up. Embarrassed, she dried her tears away from her face. It was Star.

"I know that's not really how he feels." Mabel told the teens, looking up at them without getting up. "Dipper's just scared. He doesn't know what will happen."

Star didn't know what to say for a couple of seconds. And then, "Do...you...think he'll change his mind about this whole thing?"

Mabel kept her head down, not wanting to make eye contact with the two. Instead, to keep herself distracted, she made circular motions with her finger on the ground. "I don't know. I've never seen him like this. He's never been this angry or stubborn before."

"Well, we have to keep this thing running whether he likes it or not." Marco remarked, pointing to the portal with his thumb. "We have to go home soon. We can't stay here for the rest of our lives."

Back in the control room, Stan was trying to keep himself together while talking to his aggravated nephew. Dipper had finally given up on trying to get by him to where the red button stood. The boy had to catch his breath from all the energy he used, fighting the guy.

"Dipper, I'm done trying to make you believe me." Stan started. "So go ahead. Think what you want to think."

"This thing is gonna get us all killed!" Dipper shouted, pointing aggressively to the machine through the closed door.

Immediately after Dipper finished his sentence, Stan yelled back. "I don't care! I'm doing this for my family!"

Dipper walked out right before he could hear the rest of Stan's response. He was absolutely sickened by his uncle.

Dipper sat down in the window seat of the attic, with his knees to his chest. He covered his eyes with his hands. What was he doing? Was he even sure about this anymore? Was it the right thing to do? Was it worth all the trouble? He didn't even know anymore. But with every minute - every second that went by, his family caused the poor boy to become more and more infuriated.

Dipper picked up his head from his hands and stared carelessly out the red-tinted window. Trees were forcefully torn out of the ground, along with a bunch of Mystery Shack debris everywhere. They were lucky they survived the first activation of the machine last night. The second activation would - without a doubt - finish the world off with a blast. Whatever Stan had planned with that machine must be really important.

"So you really think this will work?" Star asked Stan, back in the control room.

She nervously played with her wand in her hands. The man was broken away from his thoughts by the girl's question.

"I hope so. Even if I don't get my brother back. You kids still need to go home. Trust me. I know how it feels. " Stan removed his glasses to wipe away forming tears. He remembered the day when he saw, with his own eyes, his loving brother be ripped away from him, into a portal of the unknown.
