"Going backstage"
A/N: OMG it's time to become fabulous everyone! I hope you will all enjoy this chapter cause it's time to begin and I am in a good mood. Enjoy Candips!!!
The next day finally came and it was bright and beautiful. Seemed the town was going to be super quiet since the beauty pageant was starting that day.
Downstairs in the gift shop of the Mystery Shack, Mabel was explaining her fight she had last night with Dipper. She even though her about Candy kissing Dipper's cheek. Before Grenda could think of what to say, all she did was this.
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" She squealed so loud, the entire shack was vibrating. Grenda certainly knows how to squeal. "I can't believe! She finally did it! WOOO HOOO!!"
"Shush!" Mabel told her. "Don't tell her I told you that."
"Oh. No prob. Anyways besides the cuteness of them two together, that is a bit mess up with him saying you're not a good friend."
"I guess. I mean, am I a good friend?"
"You bet you are!"
"Thanks Grenda. But I just don't understand what Dipper is doing to help Candy. We could have help her."
"Yeah! We were her friends before him. But I hope their baby will be cute."
"Grenda they're not really together. She just kissed his cheek."
"Oh so now you saw it all, you feel you should just tell everyone everything?" A voice said sounding very annoyed.
Mabel and Grenda looked back. They weren't please with the person they were seeing. "For your information Dipper," Mabel said crossing her arms. "I was just telling her about our fight. Not that you seem to care."
"Yeah I don't. I just think you're overreacting."
Mabel got offended by that. "Oh, I'm overreacting?"
"Yeah. Because you're just assuming things and I already told you I'm helping her."
"With what?" Grenda asked.
"That's none of your business guys."
"Why shouldn't we know?" Mabel said. "We were her friends before you came along!"
"Well at least she trusts me! I bet she's scare to tell you guys anything!"
"Whatever!" Grenda rolled her eyes. "So if she is so scared of us, why a few days ago, she told us her crush was-"
"Grenda no!" Mabel covered her friend's mouth from continuing on. "We can't tell him." She whispered.
"Tell me what?" He asked a bit concern.
"Why should we tell you? Since you won't tell us what you're helping Candy with, I don't see why we should tell you things."
Dipper felt so angry. Sometimes he wished Mabel would disappear but he never means that. He loves his sister. Right now she's just being a pain again.
"Whoa guys." Wendy said as she walked into the gift shop seeing the three children angry. "What's going on? I heard yelling in here."
"It's nothing Wendy." Dipper said crossing his arms.
"You sure? I mean like, is everything alright?"
"Don't worry Wendy." Mabel said in a calm tone. "Everything is fine."
Wendy wasn't so sure with that. She knows when there's a fight. How else did she meet Robbie, Nate and Lee? He sighed and said "Well alright. I'll be in the counter doing nothing as usual." She walked to her position at work as did nothing.
Dipper looked at his watch and saw he was going to be late. "I gotta go." He said walking towards the door.
"Where you going?" Mabel asked.
"I'm going out. Not like it's your business."
"Fine. Go. I don't really need you. I got Grenda here to keep me company."
"Yeah!" Grenda pumped her fist in the air.
Dipper rolled his eyes and left the Mystery Shack.
Wendy finally stood up and said "Okay what happen?"
"Dipper and I kinda got into a fight last night." Mabel explain. "He says that he's at least a good friend to Candy more than me and then I saw her kiss his cheek."
"All happen last night." Grenda said.
"Dang. Candy got guts." Wendy smirked. "But Mabel, don't take it offensively. You're a great person and a good friend to all. He's probably just stress or so."
"I just want to know what they have been up to lately." Mabel said.
"Wait!" Grenda shouted. "We can know what they're up to! We should spy on them!"
"Spy on them?" Wendy asked.
"Yeah. You wanna know why he is helping Candy so much, so might as well spy on them."
"I don't know Grenda." Mabel said. "Spying feels very wrong."
Grenda smirked and winked at Mabel with hints. "We could even maybe see them kiss...."
"I'll get the camera!" Mabel's smile came back.
Then she and Grenda ran up the stairs to find some camera. Wendy stayed in the gift shop only nodding her head. She wished she was young once again. Young can't last forever.
The entire town seemed to be heading straight to the beauty pageant. They were certainly happy and excited. There were mostly women there. They say in their seats with no food with them and the judges stood in the front getting ready.
In the back of the building, Dipper walked towards it. He recognized the sign and building and saw the security guard standing there. The glare from
Him looked terrifying but he don't show fear.
"I'm Dipper Pines." He said. "I'm here as a assistant for one of the ladies."
The guard wasn't fooled. He wasn't letting his guard down. "I need to see some ID."
Of course he does.
Dipper put down his backpack and unzip it. Then he searched for his ID card.
While a far distance from the building, Mabel and Grenda pop their heads out from the bushes and saw the two males. They even knew what building they were at.
"That's weird." Mabel whispered.
"Yeah. That guy has too many tattoos." Grenda whispered.
"No. I mean that Dipper is going into the beauty pageant. What for?"
"Maybe he likes seeing the girls in their dresses. But then again he likes Candy."
"True. But still doesn't make sense."
"Well they might not let him in backstage."
The security guard looked at the ID Dipper gave him and studied it. It was the old ID card that he and Mabel made when they were solving the mystery of the headless Stan. One of the goggly eyes were gone that made him look weird.
He was silent for a long time and then handed Dipper back his ID. "Works for me." Then he let him in.
Dipper was kinda amazed.
So were Mabel and Grenda. They watch him walk into the building. "Okay." Mabel said. "So how do we get in?"
"This is the beauty pageant." Grenda said. "We have to come in as guests for the competition. If we're lucky we'll find them."
"It's so risky, it just might work. Let's do it!" Mabel then have her best friend a high five. Instead of going around the back of the building, they went to the front like everyone else.
Hopefully their plan will work.
Dipper was amazed with what backstage looked like. There were loads of girls getting their dresses and talking to one another. He was surprised no one notice him yet. Maybe that's a good thing.
He walked through the backstage and was searching for Candy Chiu. There were some girls with blond hair and brown but no sign of any girls with black hair like Candy. He hope she didn't bail out.
"Candy where are you?" He wonder out loud.
Suddenly he heard a girl shriek and was received a hit in the head with a purse. Apparently one of the girls didn't like he was a boy and was in there. He blushed and smiled awkwardly. "Sorry about that." Then he continued his search. But it came to an end with he saw a blond girl walk towards him with a disgust look on her face.
"What are you doing here?" Pacifica said.
"Just here to give Candy support since she's in the pageant." He responded with a smirk.
"Oh so fork girl really is here? Can't wait to see her cry again."
"Well looks like I'll be a spoiler alert cause she won't be crying. You will be when she takes you down."
"Ooh I'm scared. But I'll go easy on her. Have fun with your girlfriend." She then walked off to her friends.
Dipper rolled his eyes and continued to search.
"Man, I am one lonely dude." Soos said.
Apparently everyone seemed to have disappear. He really wanted to play the 'what am I?' game but no one was around. Mabel and Dipper were gone and Wendy was hanging with her friends. They were gonna prank Tony Determine.
Soos sat on the floor of the living room looking at the game. He really wanted someone to play with him. Waddles was resting as well. He was thinking about going to his grandma's house to ask her if she wanted to play. But then the right man came in time.
"Soos I need you to fix the toilets again. They're clogged." Stan said.
"Hey mr. Pines," he said. "Wanna play the what am I? game?"
"Soos that game is for kids and I am about to get more tourists here today. You're on your own."
Soos really felt lonely. If only there was a way Stan could play.
Then he brighten with an idea. "What if I give you twenty dollars to play with me?"
Stan looked surprised and looked down at Soos. He looked like a little kid. He couldn't possibly put down this opportunity with money. He sighed annoyed. "Fine. I'll play." He sat down with a grumpy look on him. "How do we play this?"
"We put on these sticky hands." Soos said putting his own.
Stan began to put his on.
"Then we place a card on the sticky part but can't look at it."
Stan looked a bit embarrassed. Not only that he was playing a game that's for kids but because he accidentally looked at the card. He put it down and grabbed another one. "Okay. Now what?"
"Now you have to guess what you are." Soos said. "Am I a monkey?"
"Sadly no." Stan said.
"See? Now you guess."
Stan sighed again and said "Am I... Money?"
"Wow you're good." Soos smiled as he got it correct.
Then the game continued on.
Back at the pageant, Mabel and Grenda were able to get in. Since they were kids they could get in for free. Adults have to pay. They walked past some seats and were able to find two empty ones close to each other. Plus they were close to the stage.
They say down in the two seats and looked up at the stage as the red curtain remain closed. They turned their heads searching for Candy or Dipper.
"See any sign of Candy or my bro?" Mabel asked.
"Nothing." Grenda said. "Where could they be?"
"I thought maybe they could have come here as a date. Now I'm not sure."
They had no clue where they could be.
Backstage was still filled with girls getting ready. They all kinda had their own rooms and Candy was in her own looking at her mirror.
She had on a black cover up with her dress under it. She wonder as she looked at herself in the mirror. She wonder what she is missing. She believe the dress looks lovely on her, but there was something making her look off.
She sighed and felt she should give up. "Obviously I look like a dope head." She said to herself.
"Oh all women say that when it's not true." A voice said startling the young girl.
She looked up and saw a yellow triangle in her mirror. This was impossibly. She thought he was just a dream. "Bill? I thought you were just a dream."
"Oh come on kid." He said. "I'm very powerful. But I can only be real in dreams and through mirrors. The only way I can be real is if I'm possessing a person or object."
"Oh. I guess that makes sense." When he said 'possessing' it made her feel awkward.
"And besides, we have our deal to work on. And now you're saying there's something you feel that doesn't make you look pretty right?"
"Well.... yes."
"Here's an idea. Take off your glasses."
Candy looked surprised. "My what?"
"Your glasses. I bet that's the one thing that's making you look off. Then you'll dazzling kid!"
"I don't know Bill." She said. "I can't really see without them."
"Oh well. I guess you really don't wanna win huh? Don't wanna show Pacifica Northwest who's the boss? I guess I can't say I'm not surprise."
Candy kinda felt embarrassed she refused. She's never taken off her glasses and continue to walk in public. She could fall or trip. Her vision is very blurry at times. But maybe Bill had a point. Maybe she should take them off so she could look fantastic. But even when she takes them off, she doesn't et to see what she originally looks like. But if Bill says she should take them off, then she must do it.
She reached up towards her face and slowly pulled her glasses off her. Then she put them aside and tried to look at herself in the mirror. She still couldn't see.
"Fantastic!" Bill said.
"Yes but I still can't see." She said.
Suddenly, her room door open and she turned around to face the person but still had a hard vision. But he did recognize the person's voice.
"There you are Candy! I've been looking everywhere for ya."
"Oh. Sorry Dipper. Been busy in here." She squint her eyes to try and see him.
Dipper looked puzzled. "You do realize your glasses are off right?"
"Yes. I guess it's best to take them off. I looked like a dope with them on."
"What? No you don't." He walked over and grabbed her glasses. He looked up at the mirror and could have sworn he saw a eye staring at him. But he felt it was just him. He walked back to Candy and put her glasses on her. "There. Now there's the Candy Chiu I know."
Candy was able to see again but felt a bit disappointed he put them back on her. But she was kinda close to facing him. She tried to hide her blush with her hair getting in between them.
Bill did say their deal will be giving her advice. She has to listen to him. "Well, as much as I'm flatter by your words, I have to take them off. That way I look a bit better and different." She then took them off again.
Dipper looked confuse. Why all the sudden she wanted to take her glasses off? She's gonna have a hard time seeing.
But he kept looking at her eyes and saw her look up at him. She looked so beautiful without her glasses on for some reason. He blushed as he looked at them.
"You okay Dipper?" She asked kinda smiling.
He shook his head and said "Yeah. I uh... I just worry. Can you see with them off?"
"Umm..... not really." She felt a little embarrassed that she couldn't.
Dipper began to think and brighten with an idea. "Wait a sec." He told her. Then he went to the mirror where there were drawers and grabbed two little circle things. They were contacts.
"What are you doing?" She asked as she still can't see anything.
"Getting ya something that might help." He said. He then walked towards her and showed two of the little clear circles in his hands. "Try on these."
She grabbed them and tried to take a peek of what they are, but still her vision made her see nothing. "What are they?"
"Contacts. Here let me help." He grabbed the contacts and helped her put them on.
While he did, Bill looked through the mirror and watched them. He smirked and said to himself quietly "Looks like there's gonna be a wedding in Gravity Falls soon. Let's just hope they'll be alive for it."
Dipper finally put on her second contact and he was done. "Done!"
Candy open her eyes and was able to see everything. And she wasn't wearing her glasses. She looked around her and was amazed. "Whoa. Everything looks amazing."
Dipper leaded her to the mirror and showed herself with no glasses. "Like what you see?"
She smiled and blushed "Actually yes."
"Now another question. What's this?" He asked as he looked at her black thing that's around her.
"It's a way to cover my dress so it won't get dirty for the pageant. I'll take it off in a second." She then put mascara on her so her eyelashes could stand out.
"You nervous?" He asked.
"A little. It's been so long since I last was on stage. And I hope he's coming."
"You mean your dad?"
Candy was surprised. She turned her back to face him and asked "What do you mean my father?"
Dipper looked surprised at himself. Why did he say that? If he told her about Bill showing what happen between her and mother last night, she'll think he's either a stalker or crazy.
"Well um...."
"Ladies and gentlemen," sheriff Blubs voice said on the microphone. "it's time to bring out our Gravity Falls princesses!"
Candy gasped. "It's starting!" She then pulled off her black thing and ran out the door. "Wish me luck!"
Dipper couldn't really see anything. The black thing fell onto his head. He pulled it off and smiled as he could imagine her being happy. "I know she's gonna win." He told himself. He then walked out of the room to see from backstage.
Bill looked through the mirror once again. "Looks like it's time to take the control of the crown."
He them disappear from the mirror to hide....
To be continued...
