Ghost Getters
"Is it like this every morning?" Jazz asked. They sat, bleary eyed, around Uncle Dan while he tried to simultaneously make breakfast, catch a possum, and sharpen a hunting knife.
"Pretty much," Wendy yawned. Her brothers all chanted, "Dad, dad, dad!" as he managed to flip a pancake and whack the possum.
"I got the day off today and Dipper wanted to go on this crazy haunted hike. He said you guys could come if you want."
Danny hesitated for a fraction of a second. Then Uncle Dan flung the possum, and a slab of bacon, across the room where they collided with the wall.
"Sounds great," he said.
Grinning, Wendy leaned closer and whispered, "Dipper will probably corner you into talking about ghosts. He's really into that sort of thing, so see if you can give him a few pointers to add to that nerd book."
Danny groaned inwardly. Just what he needed. Another inept ghost hunter coming to him for answers. But he threw on a smile and said,
"Great... Where did you say we were going again?"
......................................................................
Act natural, act natural, act natural Dipper drilled as he saw Danny and Wendy approaching.
He doesn't know that you know what you know. Just ask some casual ghost questions and work into the half ghost area. Grunkle Ford is counting on you!
"'Sup dude," Wendy greeted. "Is Mabel coming with us?"
A loud crash answered her question as Mabel came bursting out the door. Dipper cringed as he saw the sweater she was wearing, but Danny laughed. The design was a white ghost with the words, "Let's BOOgie" above it.
Dipper glared meaningfully at Mabel. He'd told her what he'd seen and, predictably, she had become even more smitten with Danny. He half wished he'd just kept it between himself and Ford as they set off, Mabel walking uncomfortably close to Danny.
"So how did you find this haunted hike?" Danny asked. "My parents would go ballistic if I told them there were ghosts in this town."
"Haha yeah. Must be interesting to have ghost hunters as parents. Having ghosts all around your house. You know, ghosts." Mabel beamed. Dipper facepalmed behind her. Was the word subtlety part of Mabel's dictionary?
"Yeah man. Don't you ever get to suit up with your parents and kick some ecto butt?" Wendy asked.
Dipper watched Danny closely. It was subtle, but he saw a flicker of uneasiness in his tired eyes.
"I mean it's kind of hard to avoid at home but I try to keep my distance."
Looking faintly disappointed, Wendy turned back to Dipper.
"So where are we going?"
Dipper pulled out the map that he and Grunkle Ford had drawn up. It listed the various ghostly hotspots they'd found. With any luck, one of them might persuade Danny to change his form and answer a few questions.
"I thought we'd start at the Mystery Shack, loop through to the bunker, and head to the Dusk 2 Dawn." he explained. "At least one of them is bound to have some-"
A flying car bumper narrowly missed his head.
"Paranormal activity," Dipper squeaked.
