Chapter 24

The sky was so quiet that silence could pierce through your eardrums. Its spotless blue canvas smiled down radiating hurt and pain.Water was there, everywhere but it was afraid. It's flow ceased, painting itself flawless. They are going to miss their home and may be that's why they are crying.

*********

The water kissed the sand asking it to care of its possession and the sand kindly accepted its plea. On the sand of a deserted beach, the possession laid under the roof of dominating sky in the presence of soothing air.

She was laying on the bed of sand with a tranquil mind. Her face carried some minor cuts but her pain was very less with comparison of what the Earth is going through. Her own children are trying to kill her but there are others too who could do anything for their mother Earth. It was a matter of proud as well as a cause of concern.

Lia was resting in heavenly peace when her thoughts were shaken harshly. Her poor body was shook savagely by someone who was checking her breathing time and again. Her mind vanished the composure of her heart and she jerked up breathing hardly.

She took her time to calm down and when her breathing returned to normal and water escaped her lungs, her eyes fixed on something or someone attracting her attention.

She saw a pair of familiar baby blue eyes staring her with concern. They are so beautiful with the essence of comfort that holds depth of secrets and pain. They seemed familiar to Lia but she can't put her finger on it.

She blinked and saw the owner of those blue eyes. A boy of about 12 or 13 with his dusty blonde hair was staring her with concern.

"Where am I and Who are you?" She asked looking around her. All she could see was water on her left and a dense forest on her right which seemed unknowingly scary. Trees are calm with leaves welcoming them but there was something unusual with this forest. It seems like once they will enter this forest, a never ending death game will begin. The mere presence of this forest sent shivers to her spines.

Then she looked at the boy whose face held innocence sprinkled with pain. She mentally prepared herself to be strong and then escort this boy to his parents, find everyone and then do something about the whole Kilby matter.

She got up and brushed sand off her clothes. She looked at the boy who is still sitting and smirked.
"Hey Snow white! Where are your parents?"

The boy looked up and a smile made way to his lips when he saw this girl so optimistic and calm in situations like this. He got up and replied with a grin," It's Ben."

"What? Oh. Okay. It's Lia. But stick to the point. WHERE ARE YOUR PARENTS? "

"It's a long story."

"Well, I have time."

"But I'm not in mood."

"Let's find something to eat. I'm hungry."

"What!?" Ben almost yelled in shock. This girl is totally unbelievable. How could someone think of food now? Out of the blue?!

Lia turned around and shivered at the sight of the forest. It's not good. She swallowed her fear and looked around to find something. There was a stick lying nearby. She went and took it before entering the forest. For defence.

They walked in with Lia in front shoving the leaves and Ben following her half-heartedly. There were trees, a huge variety of them. Long, short, thin and broad. Their canopies didn't allowed the sunlight to get in but somehow it managed to peep in. It was like a swamp but not the swamp. It's something you can't define. The forest, the trees, the leaves, the sunlight- everything seems to be perfect like pre-planned experiment set up.

Lia knew this, she definitely felt it once she entered into the forest but she has to manage this herself. There's a little boy with her whom she has to protect.

Her head is aching like hell. She's feeling dizzy with the amount of information processed in her head. She is feeling like she's forgetting something important, really important. But who cares!

Survival is the real truth.

They are walking for two hours now which exhausted the little energy left in their poor bodies. They are tired like hell but they continued walking till Ben collapsed near the trunk of a broad tree. Lia turned back and saw him resting. She also decided to take a rest looking at her condition. She was breathing heavily and her limbs were refusing to function but there was something that motivated her to find her friends or at least food.

Both of them were sitting with tree trunk providing them support. They tried to get their breathing even when Lia finally spoke breaking the exhausting silence.

"So you were about to tell me about your parents?"

Ben looked at her and smiled, giving up. He learnt something in two hours that her parents never learnt in sixteen years. There's no use of arguing with this girl. But he also wants to spill everything to anyone. It's really too difficult to bear this weight. He took a deep breath and started narrating while gazing at the ground who encouraged him that he is doing the right thing.

"I don't know. I don't know where are my parents. I don't know where are we. I don't know what is happening with me.

It was Sunday. Me and my dad were playing cricket at our house in Sydney when my mom got a call from my uncle. She suddenly left the house saying that it's really urgent. I bid her good bye and went for trekking with my dad where he used to take me as a child. It was a long drive and I went asleep. But when I woke up, there was something that I had never expected. It was the best day of my life, I was spending my whole day with my dad who barely took rest from his work. It was going all well when this happened and that turned turned to be the worst day of my life.

I woke up to find my dad lying in the pool of his own blood. I was shocked and terrified. I didn't knew what to do. I walked out of the car and went to the tree he was lying or hiding behind. I was afraid to ask him any question and he was not in state to answer, so it was only questioning silence.

Then there was a bang which spread fear on my dad's face. It was the first time I've seen him scared but I didn't knew that it will be the last time I'll see his face. He kissed my cheek and told me to run. I did as told. I ran. Not because I was afraid but because I was confused. I didn't knew what was happening or what to do. I ran at my best speed but then I felt something hard on my head. After that, everything is so blurry.

I usually woke up in a blue room to find my uncle staring at me and telling me "Survival is the real truth.  You have to create your own destiny." And then when I finally woke up, I found myself on this beach.

I was alone and scared, so I walked till I found someone on lying on the beach. You don't know your breathing is like a boon to me. I'm just confused but I know that you're here."

Lia was silent while listening to his story. She was trying to process every little bit of information given to her and when everything was settled in her mind, she felt sorry for this little boy. Poor boy! He had suffered a lot.

She cleared her throat and spoke to give him some hope.
"Hey! We can find your mom. She must know something about this. Or better, she must be finding you. Who is your uncle?"

"Ummm....Dr. Marco Kilby."

Then her face went pale, she was feeling like she was a lifeless body. Her life left her body and her pulses ceased. This is all his plan but how could he involve a little boy in this. For God's sake...he is just 12. She was thinking about all this and everything started making sense. She was shaken with the truth. But she managed to speak somehow because there is only one person who knew Dr.Kilby  was there in WC.

"Are you Shelly's son?"

"Yep. Benjamin Kilby. Do you know her?"
