Chapter 1

The halls of Columbia University were as usual as they could be on that Saturday evening. Students were moving around, complaining how their weekend plans were ruined when they got the message.

Apparently, the University had messaged its students last night about the unplanned turn of events. The Saturday which was expected to be a holiday was converted into a seminar which was necessary for everyone to attend.

But amidst the grim faces and unwilling actions was someone, who was very excited to attend this seminar. It was the first seminar of Dr. Marco Kirby, a very famous yet mysterious astrophycist. He was famous because he had worked on creating various anti-gravity set ups in America. He was mysterious because he had never made an appearance in public before.

And a science lover like Lia Stuarts knew better than to miss this opportunity. With blonde hair and blue eyes, she was as normal as a teenager could be. But the way her eyes shimmer at the mention of space is what sets her apart.

"She has nothing special but a sense of extraordinary curiosity and the courage to live the dreams she had imagined. "

Dark clouds hover the sky, threatening to pour their contents on the whining students when Lia steps out of the taxi. She checks her watch and mutters a "Shit!" when she realises she has only ten minutes left to reach the hall before the seminar starts.

She starts jogging towards the main hall when she notices high security around the way. She was busy staring the guns in their hands when suddenly someone called her.

"Excuse me ma'am?" a very rough hand holds her wrist and turns her around.

Lia sees a bulky man with gun twice the length of her arms staring at her.

"Me? " she asks pointing to herself to which the man nods.

"You are not a college student.... " he begins and she gulps fearing the denial to attend the seminar, "Why are you here? "

Lia smiles and uses her other hand to take something out of her pocket and gives him.

The man stares at the pass for a minute and then asks her, "How did you get the V. I. P pass?"

But instead of answering him, Lia takes back the pass and grins. "I am allowed to go in, right? "

The security guard blinks twice and nods to get out of his trance. He stands straight and with a bow, he says, "Please this way ma'am."

The seminar of Dr. Kirby was a complicated one. Though all the students were invited to it, only some people, considered V. I. P were allowed to actually be in the room. Others were instructed to be in the auditorium and their respective classes where they would be projecting the live seminar on radio. They could do voice interaction and ask Dr. Kirby questions but they weren't allowed to see him. And the V. I. Ps were mainly high society people, not even media. So seeing a middle classed teenager with sneakers and jeans, not the designer heels and dress was something the security wasn't expecting. But it turns out that the girl really has the pass and as odd as it could be for a teenager to enter the room with veterans, has to be allowed.

After the encounter with the security guard, Lia looks at her watch again. Only five minutes left.

She starts running until the end of the hall and stops to catch her breathe. She bends, with hands on her knees. She waits for her breathing to get even when she looks at her watch again and smirks.

She's exactly on time,as usual, not an early bird neither a late comer. Just an on-timer.

Lia straights up with goosebumps when the reality hits her.

She's finally going to attend the seminar.

She smirks and takes a deep breath, reading the huge banner on the door.

"GRAVITY FALLS"
