Stories over stories

When I woke up the next morning, I felt warmth on my right side.  I turned and saw my grandmother sleeping on the other side.  I stretched a little and put my head on Grandma's chest and went back to sleep.  At some point, my grandma's heavy breath made me wake up again.  She stretched briefly and then slowly turned her head to me.
"Good morning my granddaughter, did you sleep well?"
"Yes I have.  It was better than I have ever slept!  It somehow felt - how should I put it - so safe, because, mum - Mum never cuddled with me or slept in a bed - she didn't want that - and lying around here now and doing nothing is actually  pretty nice, I think - because, it's the first time that I can lie in bed with someone and we also cuddle. "
"For real?"
"Yes," I said, resting my head on Grandma's chest again.
We cuddled for a while longer, it was so nice that we didn't want to get up.  At some point Grandma then said: "come granddaughter, we get up".
I got up and stretched again;  then I made the bed with grandma.
"Grandma, what should I wear today?"
"Mmmmmmm, I know what.  I have a blue dress of mine, that might suit you - hm, what do you say? "
"Cool, can I try it on?"
"Yeah, wait, I'll get it out of the closet for a minute."
Grandma took the dress out of the closet.  It was wonderful.  I immediately put it on and looked at myself in the mirror.
"You're looking great."
"Thank you Grandma !"
I put my pajamas on Grandma's bed and went down to the bathroom to wash myself.  I felt really good this morning, much better than yesterday.  I combed my slightly wavy hair, washed myself briefly and brushed my teeth.
After a while Grandma came, she was also wearing a blue dress today.  Together we went to the dining room.
"Let's just sleep in your mom today, she drank so much yesterday - hm, what do you think?  And today we're going to have a really cozy breakfast, all by ourselves! "
"Oh yes, that's great !!  Should I set Grandma's table?  "
"But gladly granddaughter, take the nice big plates."
I set the table and Grandma made breakfast.  She fried eggs, ham, hash browns and sausages.  In a saucepan, she made beans with tomato sauce.
When breakfast was ready, I sat down at the table when Grandma came and put a cup of hot chocolate next to my plate.
"Ohhh thank you grandma, she looks really good!  What are you drinking?  "
"Hot chocolate too, my dear."
I sipped my cup briefly - the hot chocolate tasted fabulous but was still hot.
"Enjoy it, my dear," said Grandma and put eggs, ham, hash browns, sausages and toast on my plate. I started to eat, it tasted adorable. I chewed to the end and then asked my grandma: "  Ahem grandma, what's your real name? "
"Oh child, you still don't know my name, oh God!  So I'm Marga Smith, 52 years old and your real grandma;  I am the daughter of an old bookbinder and a maid who later worked in an inn.  I am the 2nd of 3 children.  My older sister Jean left home early;  she was very rarely at home;  she attended a girls' school in Scotland.  And my younger sister Sandy - oh, she was always the funniest in the family - she was always joking.  So, they were all in our family.  It's been years since the whole family sat together again;  I only see my sisters once a year and my parents are already dead. They died before they became grandparents for the third time in Oxford.  They knew, like me with your mum back then, nothing about my relationship and my marriage. "
"Who was your former husband?"
"His name was Harry Smith.  He was great, I thought.  Unfortunately I never had time to introduce him to my parents because they were not at home at the time.  You were with my sister in Scotland. "
"Oh, and then how did you know about my mom or were you already dead there?"
"I was pregnant before we were even together.  That was the problem, because after the one-night stand I didn't even know where he lived.  I had to look up the phone book where he lived and when I went to tell him all about it, he wanted to marry me immediately - so we were together.  So shortly afterwards we got married;  I was very pregnant, the wedding was horror for me.  To wear this heavy wedding dress all the time.  And all the time with the many guests.  My parents died shortly before that, so I was very sad at the moment, but then things started to get better and then, yes, when your mother was thirteen, Harry unfortunately died - I haven't fallen in love since. "
"Too bad, and my mom doesn't have any siblings, like me ?!  You have some, that's cool. "
"Yes, somehow your mom didn't have siblings - I don't know why, I don't remember."
I found Grandma's stories totally exciting somehow;  what has already happened to her!  I cut my sausage and sipped the hot chocolate again.
"You know what, I'll tell you a little bit about my life, my dear," said Grandma and smiled at me. Then she took her cup and took a good sip before starting the story.
"Hihihi, I always have to laugh when I think of this story, don't know why, at least it was like that, me and my husband, who was still alive at the time, were shopping with your mum in the supermarket.  Your mom was allowed to sit in the front of the car, she was 2 years old at the time.  So we went through the supermarket and went shopping.  We parked the car in an alley with sauces and preserves and looked for asparagus in a glass.  Your mom stayed in the car.  But it took a long time because we couldn't find any asparagus.  In the meantime your mom took a bottle of red sauce;  strangely, it opened fairly easily.  Your mom opened the bottle and started eating from the sauce - it was stupid because she smeared all over her face and on her clothes and hands.  When we came back and saw what she had done, of course we wanted to take the bottle away from her, but she just didn't want to give the bottle away - she refused so much that she clung to a shelf.  The shelf tipped over and all bottles with different sauces fell from the shelf onto the floor and were broken!  We had to pay £ 40 as a penalty, which was a lot. "
Grandma laughed again, I think she just thought it was funny how my mom had clung to the bottle and then knocked over the shelf, so I had to laugh too.
"Grandma, how long have you been living in this house?"
"Since your mom lives;  we moved in here shortly before she was born.  My former husband bought the house from an older guy.  I have always found the house totally beautiful because of the many rooms and the large kitchen.  It is on the outskirts of Oxford in a smaller town;  your mom always loved this house.  Your mum - she used to be so nice and now she's so different, sometimes so rude to you - but I've always loved her, all the years we've never met. "
"I know I always loved her - earlier when I was little she was much nicer to me - only when I was 5 years old did she become so nasty to me.  But I still like her, actually still very much, even if she always treats me badly and smokes and drinks as much as she can - she is and remains my mom! "
Grandma smiled back at me, she often does that, I think that's nice.  I like her very much, she is always so kind to me.
"Granny?"
"Yes, dear, what is it?"
"Mum -."
"What about your mom?"
"She's still sleeping, we never saw her get up."
"Oh god, maybe she's too tired to get up because she drank so much yesterday!"
"Granny!  It is 11:20 and she has not made a single sound, you cannot hear her breathing at all! "
"You know what, we'll clear the table and check if she's still sleeping, huh, what do you think?"
"Yes, I think that's a good idea grandma."

So that was the second chapter, a little longer than I thought, but at least it was quite good.  The next chapter will be a little sadder than the second one now, but about as long.  So have fun reading, LG Maddeline Mcgonagall
