Sarah: Hi, Alanna. It's so good to finally get the chance to sit down with you. Tell us about yourself.

Alanna: Hello Sarah and everyone out there! I'm Alanna, a Wattpad Ambassador, a Wattpad reader and writer. 

Sarah: Why did you choose to get involved in this community?

Alanna: I chose to be a part of this wonderful community because it was dying and the number of dead souls were increasing day by day. I wanted to bring the dead back to life, give them a new soul and hope to live on.

Sarah: Where did the idea of opening ceremony come from?

Alanna: The idea came to me while I was handling the Malaysian Wattys Award @WattysMY profile and attending to user complaints. One of them was why Indonesians have such a big community, lots of opportunities and cool things going on. I was thinking at that time, why they were comparing. We aren't the same. Indonesia is a far bigger country compare to Malaysia. Their number of population is about 8 times more than ours. Their Wattpad users are far more active and alive. The comparison was unfair.

It was then that I had decided to create an opening ceremony to bring together all the readers and writers that reside in Malaysia. I know there are a lot of Malaysians on Wattpad but a lot of them prefer to be 'silent' and not involved. One of the reason why the previous profiles weren't getting much support and attention. When they remain 'silent' and stay within their own group of users, they get less opportunity to find out about all these amazing ambassadors-run profiles, the Wattys, friendly Wattpadders and cool events.

Sarah: Can you take us through the planning and organisation of the event. For instance how you made the covers and found out availability of guests. 

Alanna: I have discussed this idea with some Ambassadors to get their opinions (more like to make sure I'm not going crazy on an idea) and I was surprised to get lot of positive feedbacks. I did a little observation on the Wattys profile to find out more about the Malaysian users, what they like and dislike and that's when the planning started. I was so lost and alone at first, so I talked to some Wattpad users to get their opinions on it and that's when my vision became clearer. I created all the covers since I didn't think graphic designers would be able to fulfill my vision. I did spend some painful hours on them. After that, I began to personally message the guests and everything seems to fall in place after I received a reply from them.

Sarah: Were there more authors you would have liked to see but due to number restrictions or shortage of time didn't manage to invite? Name authors you would like to see at the next party.

Alanna: Yes, there were. There are lots of names involve and I think I would like to keep it a surprise for the next event.

Sarah: What is next for Wattpad Malaysia?

Alanna:  Coming up next will be the Wattpad Communities portfolio (Komuniti Wattpad) which I'm still working on. I want to introduce to our new followers the amazing Ambassadors and users-run profiles which they are welcome to be a part of and of course, other exciting events but it all depends on the support the profile gets.

Sarah: Any last words?

Alanna: I would like to thank each and everyone of you who have stopped by to support the community and the event. The key to success is to make yourself known and socialize with other users. Engage, read and comment other's stories. Don't be selfish about it. The more you give, the more you get.
