Wattpad Malaysia proudly presents the Engagement leader of the Ambassadors' Program, AngusEcrivain. He is also a badass writer, a zombie, dinosaur & Sci-Fi expert and  best known for his story 'The Day' which has won an Ooorah Award.

I'm Dan, or Angus, but to be honest I answer to most things, and I'm Head of Engagement. What that means, basically, is that I oversee the teams running profiles such as this one, as well as profiles like ScienceFiction, fantasy, Romance, and countless other exciting profiles and projects, all of which are intended to entertain, engage and educate you!

I've been an active member of Wattpad for over seven years now and to be perfectly honest with you, there's not a single second gone by when I've not considered signing up for an account all those years ago as being one of the best decisions I've ever made. On those few occasions I'm not busying myself with the above and I actually do find the time to write, my stuff generally falls into one of three categories: Sci-Fi, horror or humour.

As the head of Engagement, I'm going to share some useful ways to get engage on Wattpad. Do take note!

Top 5 Ways to Engage on Wattpad

1 - Be seen! This is without a doubt the most important of all, hence it being first on this list because at the end of the day, if your fellow Wattpadders don't know about you or your work, you're not going to have any followers to engage!

There are many ways to do this, of course, but without question the best method is to find the work of others that interests you then read it and comment upon it. Writers are far more likely to read the work of folk who've taken the time to read their stuff. Build a rapport with other writers in your community and all over Wattpad, and you'll find that as both a Wattpadder and a writer, you'll go from strength to strength!

2 - Join in! There are countless projects, contests and initiatives going on all over Wattpad at any given time, and whilst the overwhelming majority of these are unofficial, that doesn't make them any the less fantastic. By joining in and taking part, you're instantly increasing your follower-base, even if only by a little. Not only that but the very nature of such things means they're designed to help you improve your own writing, and whether you're an amateur writer with no desire to write professionally or one who really, really wants to make a living putting pen to paper, improving your writing is never a bad thing!

3 - If you do something, tell people about it! You might think that goes without saying but you'd be surprised how many people either don't do so or don't think about it. But your followers are your followers for a reason and they're not going to mind you broadcasting to them on a daily basis, especially if it's to tell them their favourite Wattpad story has just been updated!

4 - Quality over Quantity! Contrary to popular opinion and belief, some of the best known and most well respected writers on Wattpad are not those who put out a chapter every single day. Instead, those who take their time to edit their work, thus posting with less frequency, are always going to be the topic of such discussions as, "Hey! Did you read @userx's latest update yet?!"

There's a school of thought stating the ideal upload schedule is bi-weekly, so two updates per week. Uploading say, Tuesday and Friday, doesn't overwhelm followers with more chapters than they can keep up with but at the same time, means a story is being updated regularly enough to ensure everyone remains interested and invested!

5 - Don't be a dick! Whilst this sentiment is one to be heeded in all walks of life, nowhere is it truer than on the internet, especially on a site like Wattpad where one's every interaction could mean the difference between a reader giving one's work a chance, or not.

It's a fact that if you're perceived as being a nice, decent person, your work is far more likely to be read or at least, those who do read your work are far more likely to come back for more. And that's an important thing, when it comes to engaging one's followers... One should always leave them wanting...
