Graduation Day
"Team seven, Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, and Sasuke Uchiha. Team eight, Kiba Inuzaka, Shino Aburame, and Hinata Hyūga. Finally team ten, Shikamaru Nara, Choji Akimichi, and Ino Yamanaka." Iruka announced, reading the team off of a list given to him by the hokage. "Any questions?"
At this, Naruto raised his hand before being called upon. "Can I change teams with Ino?" The blonde asked casually, causing all the students to stare at him like he'd grown a second head.
"What do you mean?" Irks asked, confused.
"I'm asking if I could join team ten while Ino joins team seven." Naruto clarified.
"I understand that, but why do you want to switch teams?"
"Well I know that both Sasuke and Sakura dislike me while at least Shikamaru and Choji have the decency not to be rude to my face. And considering that we are in teams, it would mean that we'd have to work together. So how am I supposed to work with two people that hate me?" Naruto replied seriously as he added to the shock value with his out of character mood.
"But don't you love Sakura?" A random student from the back of the classroom called out.
"What makes you think I love her?"
"Well you're always asking her out on dates." The same boy called out.
"Dates? Isn't that when two friends hang out? Well that's what Mizuki told me when I asked. Can't say I trust him too much after what happened." He answered, now confusing those who didn't know about happened on the day of graduation. "As for the other question, no I don't. I admire her as she comes from a civilian family with minimal if any prior knowledge about being a ninja yet she's got the second highest score in theory. She also has great potential to go far as a ninja and I respect that." He concluded, stunning the pink haired girl.
"What about team seven then? You said that you could work with them, but don't you think that Sakura and Ino would only fight each other for Sasuke while neglecting their duties?" Irks interrupted, wanting to know more considering that the boy had already put this much thought into his argument.
"Well there is a small chance of that happening, but more than likely, they will use their rivalry to try and beat each other in ninja skills. If they truly hated each other, then they'd both be beating each other up like what Sakura and the other do to me." He finished, waiting for Iruka to reply.
"As much as I'd love to change the teams, I have no authority over them and they have already been officially registered, Jonin Sensei and all." Iruka sighed which the boy copied as he nodded slowly.
It was from that moment onward that most of those who were apart of the Konoha nine started to realize that Naruto wasn't just an idiot, and that he had feelings that no one knew about.
