The first thing I did after I put the phone down was grab my brother's car keys. I'm sure Shane would probably be pissed but I simply didn't care at that point.

Caleb and Unathi were still texting me nonstop. They weren't sure about the evening's plans. Unathi thought we needed protection outside of where we were going and, seeing as Zake had shut down the world for the entire previous day, I believed her. The only thing is I didn't know anything more powerful than where we were going.

Caleb, on the other hand, was more interested in the jealousy thing Shay's mother had said. He had spoken with Tshepang and they both agreed that the jealousy wasn't referring to one of friends and being left behind, but referring to one of love. Their first theory was that it was Shay and Toni.

It made the most sense. Shay was being protected by Zake and the exact opposite was happening to Toni. Not only that but Tshepang had told majority of the group (minus Toni, of course) that Shay and Zake had something going on while the latter was dating Toni.

My hands tightened around the wheel as that thought crossed my mind.

However it seemed that the jealousy was centered around Toni. Just not Shay. If Shay was being protected then it was clear that she wasn't the one that was in this predicament. So who was this other person?

I flipped the indicator and pulled into the driveway. The sudden dread and other negative feelings were replaced with a different, positive feeling. A uncertainty in the pit of my stomach. Why did I come here? There was no reason to and it wasn't like I was driving with any direction but here I was.

The gate shuddered open. Too late to turn back I pulled in. She stood there waiting behind a small gate.

I took thirty deep breaths and got out.

"I wasn't expecting this." Toni immediately said. The video call didn't do her any justice.

Her hair was an absolute mess, bags under her eyes, last night's clothes under a pink gown. Beautiful.

"Yeah, I just wanted to check up on you." I pulled out of my behind. Where the hell did that excuse come from?

Apparently neither did she as she immediately lifted an eyebrow. "You check up on me? Well, again, I wasn't expecting that. How was your night?"

I initially didn't hear the question. I was so focused on the lower part of her face. I was a little shocked to see it after being hidden behind a mask for so long. 

But I shook my head."About as eventful as yours I take it. How are you feeling?"

She thought for a second, then said. "Opposite of normal, I guess. Abnormal."

Besides everything, she smiled. Leave it to her to smile during a time like this.

"Yeah that pretty much sums everything up pretty well, I'd say." I turnt to lean on my brother's car. Toni waited a minute and then moved to stand against the car too.

"You ready for this afternoon?" She asked and then giggled, moving hair behind her ear. "That's a dumb question. Of course you aren't."

"I just want this mess to be over with. I don't want to spend another day doing this stuff." I said bitterly.

"It's crazy to think that prelims start soon and then finals." Toni changed the subject. "And then here we are ghost hunting. In lockdown no less. What perfect timing!"

I laughed with her at the irony. We fell into a comfortable silence.

"Can I ask a question?" I quickly said and continued, not giving a chance to say no. "How do you feel about Zake now?"

As soon as his name left my mouth the wind rose for a second. A fierce, freezing wind pierced us before disappearing.

Toni looked in the direction it had came from. "Whatever we had... Whatever I felt died. I just...want to forget."

My heart raced at her words. At the fear of something happening, at the meaning of her words, I didn't know.

But I kept my composure, running my hands through my hair. "Yeah. Forgetting would be nice."

Toni's head snapped towards me. I caught her eye and just...stared. She looked as if she wanted to say something but decided against it.

Say it, I screamed inside.

"Seeing as you are here, you can drive us to the church." She said, cheerily.
