apartment hunting
3 of 3. if y'all don't vote somebody gotta see me 😑
"I just want you to explain to me how you've never seen The Temptations." Josiah stated for the hundredth time, "That ain't even no hood movie."
"You should be happy I haven't seen any of these movies. That way when you don't have a date idea, we can just watch these."
Grace was laying at the foot of Josiah's bed, while he sat at the head, her feet in his lap.
"I don't run outta ideas. You should know that by now."
"Well help your brother out." Faelyn said from the other side of the room, "Because ummmm."
"Here you go. I be telling you don't nobody wanna hang with no pregnant girl."
Grace laughed, rolling on her side to look at them, "She's pregnant by you."
"What that mean? I still don't wanna hang with her."
Grace's phone dinged as she got an email. When she checked, it was a delivery confirmation for an order she'd placed. "Do you wear aprons?"
"Who you talking to?"
"The only person in the room who cooks."
Josiah tickled the bottom of her feet, barely moving before he got kicked in the face, "Damn. Big foot ass."
"I hate being tickled." She replied with a smile, "But I bought you something."
He sat patiently while she clicked on the link, turning the phone around when it loaded.
Josiah really didn't try to laugh, but it came out anyway.
Grace's feelings looked hurt, and he tried to stop, only it kept coming.
"Wait." He managed to say through his laugh, pulling her to him so she couldn't get up, "Grace what the fuck is that shit?"
"It's an apron!" She yelled, feeling embarrassed, "It was high on the list of recommendations to buy your chef friend!"
Hassan had nosily come over to look at whatever had Josiah laughing so hard, "Pftttt. Man you so fucking strange G."
Aprons are ranked high on the list, but for some reason Grace decided to be extra and put a picture on it.
So it was an apron with his face on it.
"I'm ashamed." She said with a head shake, "I'm sending it back".
"Nah, I'ma wear it. Thank you."
"Why you buy that though?" Hassan asked while getting back in the bed, "Just for the fuck of it?"
Grace shrugged, "He does nice stuff for me all the time. I wanted to do something nice for him, but I can't cook."
Though they'd only been actually in a relationship for about two weeks, Josiah was impossibly nice. It was weird because he didn't actually do anything, he was just always there.
"Buy him a Tesla. That's nice."
Their conversation was abruptly ended when Lia opened the door, staring at Grace who was still on Josiah's lap.
Grace didn't know if she should move or not since he didn't unwrap his arms, so she just stayed there.
"I do believe I said nobody would be sleeping in the same room with the opposite sex while under my roof."
"We ain't sleeping though." Hassan pointed out, "We watching a movie."
"Do we not own a living room?"
Grace didn't know why Lia didn't like her, especially seeing as she didn't even attempt to get to know her as a person.
She seemed like a bitter old lady.
Josiah sighed heavily and removed his arm from Grace, motioning for her to stand up, "We finna go Hassan. You coming?"
"Go where?" Lia questioned. She was just being petty. She hardly ever asked where they were going.
"We can go to my house." Grace suggested.
That was actually a good idea and Josiah was about to agree when Lia said, "Hassan can't go over there. Faelyn you're welcome to do whatever you want."
Hassan looked at his mama in shock, "What you mean?"
"Exactly what I just said. You don't even respect my house or my rules. I know you won't respect someone else's."
"That girl mama probably don't even be half of whatchu' doing."
Lia didn't care that Grace was standing there, "Sorry I care about my children."
Turning around, Grace got her keys and phone off the bed, "I'll just call you later." She told Josiah, hurriedly walking out of the door.
"What you say that for?" Josiah asked when the door closed, "You don't know what go in they house."
Lia had actually pissed him off by bringing up Samantha when it was already a touchy subject. Grace said she was doing better, but her idea of better is her leaving the house at any point in the day, even if it was just to get the mail.
"You're right I don't." She agreed, "But I know what goes on in mine."
Thinking back to what Neriah had said to him when Faelyn first moved in, he walked past Lia, who was still talking to Hassan, and knocked on her door.
"Yeah?" She called, prompting him to walk in.
"Let's move out."
Neriah dropped the comb she was using to part her hair and turned to face Josiah, "You forreal?"
"Hell yeah man. I can't take this shit."
"Malik's apartment taking applications." She said excitedly while getting her laptop, "Rent kinda high, but with the both of us, we'll be good."
They both looked as she clicked through the pictures of the layout that were online, "Should we get a 3 bedroom so Faelyn can come?"
"Mama probably ain't gone let Hassan come, but yeah I guess."
"She crazy though, I would've been at Grace house letting Celina cook for me every night."
When Josiah didn't respond, Neriah asked, "You better ask can you move in the guest house."
"I'm straight on that. We ain't even been together long enough to stay together."
"You acting like she not basically about to move in with us if we move. You about to pay rent for no reason."
Josiah didn't want to seem as if he were bumming off of Grace. She already got him a job, he wasn't about to ask could he stay in her house.
"Can you just fill out the application? Doing all that talking and ya' breath stank."
"Give me your social security number block head ass dude."
They spent the rest of the night filling out applications.
