Giving her one last smile Kathrine disappeared off.

Moments passed before Grace angrily kicked the ground. "Dammit." She cried. "I forgot to ask where the boarding house is!"

May 31st 2010

Taking a moment to compose herself she looked at her surroundings, she hadn't actually stood in the town square for going on eight months now.

Not much had change, the buildings were still the same but she felt as though she had changed.

She didn't belong in Mystic Falls, not that she ever did. She was the odd one out, the out cast - she wasn't born here and despite their claims to hospitality and community it was hard to become a member of their exclusive 'founding family's only club'.

You had to of been born here to stand a chance.

A voice snapped her out of her musings, a voice that was calling out her name.

Turning round she came quite literally face to face with an old friend.

"Matt?"

"Grace!" The blonde embraced her in a friendly bear hug. "Its so good to see you." Pulling away he rested his hands on her shoulders , placing her arms length away. "Where've you been? I haven't heard anything from you in ages."

Grace froze, she was pretty sure that Kat had said Matt knew about the supernatural but if that extended to her time in a coffin she wasn't too sure and then suddenly she remembered the lie Elena had concocted to hide her disappearance.

"Didn't you get my letters?" He shook his head. "Oh Matt I've been sending postcards to the girls and asking them to keep in touch with everyone here. They must have forgotten to keep you updated with where is was."

"Where were you?"

"Everywhere Matt - Europe, Australia, Malaysia. I've been traveling."

"For half a year." He said with a crooked smile

"I've been taking a break." She said giving him a halfa smile. "But I'm back now." As a second thought she added in, "You wouldn't happen to know where the Salvatore Boarding House is, would you?"

"I do but what business do you have with the Salvatores?" He voice was louder now, agitated.

"The important kind, please can you take me there?"

"Alright." He said holding out his hand to her. "Come on."

They walked for awhile, Matt led them to the outskirts of town before going down a drive to a massive house, the Salvatore Boarding House, Grace assumed.

The door was a big dark wooden one with panelling, the exterior of the house had an old worldly feeling to it. She remembered Katherine's tales of the inhabitants of the manor - two brothers stuck outside of time, vampires like her and Nik.

In the eyes of Nik, one hundred and fifty year olds like the Salvatores must be like mere children but to her they were ancient.

Matt knocked on the door three times waiting each time for a reply but it didn't come.

"Maybe no one is home." He was hoping she would drop whatever 'important' business she had, Grace was the last person he wanted to see get caught up in all of this. He had lost Vicky, he wasn't about to lose her.

"Matt." She hissed. "This is important." Moving in front of him she pulled the handle and pushed the door, to her surprise it swung open. Walking right through the door Matt let out a sigh, he knew she hadn't been invited in and the fact that she had walked over the threshold of the house took a weight of his shoulders. It had been at the back of his mind that during her travels she might have encountered some of the unsavoury undead type.

Matt didn't know what he would have done if she had been a vampire. It would of broken his already damaged heart he supposed.

"Hello." Grace called out. "Um is Damon Salvatore here."

Matt rushed forward grabbing her hand. "What do you want with Damon?"

"He's the one I'm here for, I have something I supposed to give to him." She whispered at him, snatching her hand back. "What's with you Matt, is there something wrong."

Before could he answer a voice called out. "Matt?" Turned round Matt and Grace looked for the source of the voice. They could tell it was Elena but a part of Grace hoped it was Kathrine but of course upon looking at the stairs she found her self looking into the eyes of little miss Elena Gilbert.

Little miss not so dead Gilbert.

"Matt, what's she doing with you." Elena said looking at Grace, panic in her voice.

"She was looking for Damon." He said with a shrug.

"She's not meant to be here." Her voice was strained, she knew the implications of Grace seeing her alive - even now Grace was thinking about telling Nik and the sweet revenge that she could get - it would ruin her life but that wasn't why she was here.

"I won't tell him Elena, I not here for you I'm here for Damon. I need to see him."

"Why should I let you."

"Because Stephan sent me here," She said,  removing the vile from her jacket pocket. She had stashed it there when she had found Matt, or indeed he had found her. Holding it up for her to see, the look in her eye was clear, a greedy form of hope that only Elena Gilbert could find.  "Its the cure."

As if she was a vampire Elena Gilbert was down the stairs and in front of her in a blink. Snatching at the vil, she had a desperate look on her face. Pulling away, Grace shook her head.

"Where is he Elena?"

"Follow me." She said, bowing her head in defeat. Going back up the stairs Elena led her to what Grace could only assume to be Damon Salvatore's bedroom.

Just as predicted, there on the bed in sweating fits was a very incapacitated vampire.

Kathrine had described to her the crippling effects that wolf venom had on vampires and he didn't have long left. It was good Matt found her when he did, she would have been to late otherwise.

"Damon." Grace said walking toward the bed, Elena hung back at the door, clutching at her arm looking lost.

Damon raised his head, she could tell his was straining to do even such a simple movement so she hurried to his side perching in the edge of the mattress.

"An angel." He said with a smile, his face crashing back down into the pillows. "I must be in heaven." He shook his head blinking lazily like he was falling asleep. Grace let a small sigh,  man was clearly delirious.

"I'm no angel and you and I both know you would never make anywhere past eternal damnation." She said with a laugh.

Popping the cork out of the vile she showed it to him. "This will cure you, it will heal you, make you feel better." She whispered.

He inhaled deeply, his eyes closing but then opening a moment later. "That's blood." He remarked. "I've tried blood it doesn't work." He shook his head eyes closing again in despair.

"This blood is special." She said moving the vile to his lips.  "The blood of a vampire heals humans and human blood heals vampires but only the blood of a hybrid can heal a wolf bite."

"Klaus." He spat in disgust trying to move away.

"Your brother gave up everything for this, She said more forcefully moving it back to his lips. "You will drink it."

Reluctantly he took it from her, gulping the contents down before dropping the vile. It landed with a clatter.

Grace took a step away from the bed but her spot was quickly retaken by Elena who was quick to play nurse with what Grace was sure to be the wrong Salvatore brother.

Before she left Grace felt the need to say one more thing. "Elena, you're more like your doppelgänger then you care to admit."

"I'm am nothing like Kathrine!" She spat, her head reeling around to meet Grace's.

"I'm sure if she was here she would say it's alright to love them - both of them. She sure did."

"Leave." Elena said turning away from her and back towards Damon.

"I hope Stephan's sacrifice was worth it." Grace said finally before tuning and leaving Damon's room.

Matt stood out in the hall way waiting expectantly for her.

"Can we go now?"

"Yeah, I'm done here."
