Club Member Interview: Junie
The following interview was compiled based on questions submitted by members and followers. We hope you enjoy getting to know one of our critics a little better!
BlueSapphire718: What's the best thing you love about a book?
Hands down, the characters. I love seeing how different characters interact with one another, how they grow to dislike or like each other. Seeing their personalities change and their personal growth is something I've always found interesting. It's what makes a story enjoyable.
BlueSapphire718: If you could get stuck with any Pokémon character, who would it be?
Definitely May from the Anime. I could totally see us getting along as I'm a major food lover. Plus, she's a coordinator, which is something I could see myself doing if I lived in the Pokémon World.
Sheare: Favorite condiment?
Barbecue. It's great on hamburgers.
Sheare: If you were sentenced to death, what would be your last meal?
Oof, asking the hard questions I see. Well, I would definitely have hot chocolate as my drink of choice. Since it's my last meal, I might as well pair it up with red pepper hummus, warm pita bread, topped with falafel. It's so yummy.
Sheare: Favorite Pokémon type?
Dark types. They have some of the coolest Pokémon.
Sheare: Coffee or tea? (Very important question)
I feel like I'm going to answer this question wrong...but coffee?
Sheare: Favorite ice cream flavor?
It's a tie between coffee flavor or mint ice cream.
Sheare: Pokémon with the best design?
I like Umbreon's design. Simple, dark, sleek, it doesn't need much to make a great design.
Sheare: Pokémon with the worst design?
Jynx.
Sheare: What dog breed is June?
She's a mutt, so I really don't know.
Sheare: If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. I love the love story that's woven into it. If I had to choose just one book from that trilogy, Clockwork Princess.
Sheare: Why did you decide to write Pokémon fan fiction?
I've always enjoyed writing ever since I knew how to write, but I also enjoyed playing Pokémon games. One day, I stumbled upon a fanfic on Wattpad, and realized I could merge anything I liked together. Pokémon just seemed easy enough for me since I could do anything with it.
BlueSapphire718: If you could have any Pokémon, who would it be and why?
I'd have Jirachi. The Pokémon can make any wish come true, and there's some things I wish I could change for this world to make it a better place. Plus, the Pokémon is pretty cute.
CoordinatorIza: What made you join Wattpad?
Back in middle school/high school (not sure when actually) one of my classmates noticed I wrote all the time and tried to get me to share it here on Wattpad. I didn't think my work was anything special, so I started by just reading books here on Wattpad. I didn't vote, comment, or make any public reading lists, but I found it amazing how people shared their work, and loved how well written some of the material was.
Later on, I lost the password to the said account I used in the past, but realized that was the perfect excuse to actually start publishing my writings as no one from school would actually see it. That's when I actually started publishing my writings, started voting, commenting, and creating reading lists, becoming a more active member on Wattpad.
CoordinatorIza: How did you decide to be a GRA critic?
I saw the GRA position opening in the book, and thought about it. I probably wouldn't have actually gone through with it if it wasn't for a member of the GRA, NaivEevee, who messaged me, kind of giving me the push to do so. Before being a GRA critic, I had my own critic book I had just started, so I had a bit of experience through that and some college critic papers I had to write. With that background, and hearing someone giving me that extra push, I just did it.
CoordinatorIza: What sort of stories have you written previous to the one you won this year?
Lots of fictional stuff, mostly taking place in another world that I've created in my mind (whether it included superheroes, dragons, pirates...I have a crazy imagination). I've also written a Harry Potter Fanfic that I vow will never see the light of day (especially since it was before The Cursed Child, and that book is too good to be altered). There's a few poems and short stories I've written for school, but nothing major. None of it has really been published on Wattpad.
CoordinatorIza: How has your writing style changed over the years?
There's been a lot of stylistic changes, but the biggest is the amount of detail I put into a story. I used to do the typical dialogue only, but then I had an english teacher back in high school who told my class that you've got to pretend that your readers know NOTHING about what's going on in your story. I really took that to heart and started to become more serious afterwards. My writing is still evolving, and will always change from one book to the next.
NaivEevee: How did you come about discovering Wattpad?
I wrote a lot. Back in middle school and high school, instead of taking notes in particular classes (because they were easy and I got easily distracted) I would write stories on the side of my notebook. I did the same during lunch. One of my classmates took notice of this and asked if I had Wattpad and said I should publish some of my work here. While I didn't start publishing my work right away, it was then that I discovered Wattpad.
NaivEevee: What inspired you to start writing Pokémon FanFiction?
Good question. I'm not sure myself. Guess I just loved writing and the Pokémon community that I put the two together one day and haven't stopped.
NaivEevee: Is Torchic your favorite Pokémon? Why?
I don't know if Torchic is my favorite, but the Pokémon holds a special part in my heart as my cousin would play his Ruby game a lot when we were kids. At the time, I didn't like Pokémon (I kind of mindlessly hated it), but my cousin's as bullheaded as I am and decided to teach me all about it. He just got the game, so he started the game with me watching it, choosing Torchic as his starter. Kind of fell in love with the Pokémon ever since.
NaivEevee: Favorite season and why?
Spring is my favorite. I love the flowers that bloom and that the weather is warming up.
NaivEevee: Desired superpower?
It's a tie between invisibility or the power to memorize everything I read (whether it be sheet music, text books, books, recipes, etc).
NaivEevee: What's a super secret hobby that you have? (Besides writing Pokémon fanfiction)
If it's super secret, why should I be sharing it? In reality, no one in real life knows I still write, or am a Pokémon fan, so I guess watching Pokémon and playing the games is sort of a super secret hobby I have.
NaivEevee: What would be your ideal Pokémon fic?
Something original. I love trainer books, but my favorite Pokémon fan fictions are ones that adds a twist to what we normally see in nearly every fic that's on here. Also, I love it when the characters are interesting, with some great detail and dialogue in it.
BlueSapphire718: Favorite childhood movie?
It's a tie between Lilo and Stitch and Beauty and the Beast.
