Alphanix
For our first interview, we'd like to shine the spotlight onto a user who goes by the name of Alphanix. This hidden gem has joined the community fairly recently, but that didn't stop her from churning out six books in that time- some of which you may already have heard of, like "The Region of Peace" and "The Path Chosen". The main theme for this interview would be Japanese culture, because she has a burning desire to visit the beautiful country and has put in effort to learn their language.
She's down to earth, she's friendly, she's fiercely ambitious! We give you: Alphanix!
Interviewer: blue___22
Q: How does it feel like being on Wattpad for this long?
A: Being on Wattpad this long has really been fantastic. I enjoy pleasing and talking to readers quite a lot. I feel like it's really changed my personality and future plans in writing.
Q: What inspires you the most to write?
A: The two things that inspire me the most are other works of Pokemon fanfiction or simple objects that I find. Sometimes I'll see something, like an object, that's particular and it'll give me a short story or one-shot idea due to the object's oddity or potential.
Q: Are there any writing tips you'd like to share with the general public?
A: My favorite writing tip personally is to keep a lot of references of characters, Pokemon, items, or other things of such. It helps bring back inspiration during writer's block and also helps with describing the person or object in an introduction. It's always nice to have a picture in mind when writing something.
Q: What is the kind of content do you crave when reading?
A: I like to read about action or adventure and mystery. I enjoy adventure and action because I love to read intense scenes and climaxes and then picturing them in my head. Mystery always poses some kind of puzzle I can try to solve, like a math problem.
Q: What's your favourite book?
A: My favorite book, off Wattpad, would still remain the Warriors series. On Wattpad, "The Secret Tale of Absol" never fails to make me excited.
Q: How often do you write?
A: I write quite a lot! Whenever I am working on a Pokemon fanfiction novel I will update the book about every week. When I am not, I am planning a sequel or working on some type of form of general fiction.
Q: Do you like to plan out what you write or do you prefer to play it out 'by ear'?
A: I tend to mix in both planning out and playing it by ear. I usually will plan out a basic plot for a story and stick to it pretty well, but I will often add in new story elements by ear whenever I'm at some type of climax. It always adds a bit more to the story.
Q: What are your writing pet peeves?
A: I have a couple of writing pet peeves. One of them is when writers under describe or I have a hard time visualizing the main character or other story elements. I also have a bit of a pet peeve when a plot tends to go too slow or too fast, and especially with grammar issues I will feel as if a plot is accelerating too quickly.
Q: What is your favorite Pokemon?
A: My favorite Pokemon is Absol! I like all the potential in plot and mystery with it.
Q: What constitutes a perfect Pokemon fanfiction for you? Why?
A: A perfect Pokémon fanfiction to me should have a strong beginning, middle, and end, along with good grammar. I should be able to visualize and understand characters very well, and be able to trace along with the plotline. If I cannot understand the plot or do not understand characters, I will end up putting the book aside and I feel as if other readers do this too.
Q: How long have you been interested in Pokemon fanfiction?
A: I have been interested in Pokemon fanfiction since I joined Wattpad. I had started writing my first Pokemon fanfiction out of enjoyment and self pleasure on paper before I even joined, although I didn't know it was Pokemon fanfiction until I actually joined.
Q: What made you interested in Pokemon fanfiction?
A: I was writing my own kind of Pokemon fanfiction before I joined Wattpad, but then discovered that there were other fanfictions of the same genre when I joined officially.
Q: What are your favourite themes to see in Pokemon fanfiction? Why?
A: I like seeing themes tied in with a big ending or very powerful climax. I especially appeal to strong character arcs of protagonists and enjoy reading that along with a good plot.
Interviewer: Sheare
Q: What aspect about Japanese culture appealed to you the most?
A: I really like how different the culture in Japan is from America's and that really intrigues me. It seems so unique and different. I like the architecture and culture of Japan.
Q: Is Japanese intimidating to you as a language?
A: In some parts yes, in some parts, no. The writing system with Japanese is so different from English and sometimes that can be intimidating, while the grammar seems a bit more simple and is not so scary. The symbols compared to the alphabet in English are very unique.
Q: What are some differences you find interesting between your current student life and one that lives in Japan?
A: From what I understand, students attend school throughout the whole year rather than 10 months. A student will stay in one classroom all day for different teachers and subjects rather than switching classes and teachers as we do in America.
Q: When you first go to Japan, what is the first thing you want to visit?
A: I want to visit so many different areas, but I know for sure I'd like to see a traditional Japanese shrine and the modern architecture.
Q: Since a lot of Pokémon writers are also anime and manga fans, what degree of influence do you think the mediums have on Pokémon fan fiction?
A: I really do think that other types of anime and manga really affect Pokemon fanfiction, due to plot lines being different than traditional Pokemon. It's a cool effect, considering how some types of the fanfiction will be original Pokemon, while you also get a bit of different anime and manga sense in another scene.
Q: Japanese culture involving manga, anime, games, and other activities and traditions tend to be weird to western people. Do you think it will become more normalized in the future?
A: It seems like the culture with anime and manga has been evolving in the U.S. for quite a while, but eventually, I think that it will be more respected and seen differently than the view some have right now.
Q: Are you interested in any other foreign cultures?
A: I am interested in many foreign cultures. Countries such as France, Australia, Britain, Sweden, and Italy intrigue me.
Interviewer: Darker_X
Q: Is there a meaning behind your username(and pen name), or is it just a random sequence of words?
A: There is actually a meaning behind my pen name. My first pen name comes from my original username, "AlphaWolf3312," where the "Alpha Wolf" in that username represented my bold personality, the 33 was my lucky number, and 12 was my age. My middle pen name actually was an idea from the Pokemon character Serena, and Winter was the last name of one of my original characters from I'm No Hero, Autumn Winter. Alphanix is a combination of "Alpha" and "nix".
Q: You mentioned, in your profile, that you have big goals for your life. What are they?
A: I would like to get a job in my life as a scriptwriter, translator, or author of fiction in general. I want to help others and entertain others in the art of writing or speaking with words.
Q: What tunes do you play on your saxophone? Which ones do you like the most?
A: I play many different tunes on my saxophone, varying from marching band songs to jazz. Personally, my favorite is a jazz song called Night Cruiser.
Q: What kind of scenes of events do you enjoy illustrating most when writing?
A: I absolutely love writing action and adventure scenes considering climax. It's inspiring to write messages in plot and see characters change for the better.
Q: Do you plan to improve upon writing romance? Why do you think you don't excel at it?
A: I do plan to improve on writing romance. I feel like when I try to write romance the plot is stalled and I can't write scenes like I can with action and adventure.
Q: Judging from your interest in becoming a foreign exchange student in Japan, what do you think is the best quality of the country? The food, the culture and so on.
A: It's really all interesting to me. The culture is just so different that I enjoy exploring something entirely new. I have about the same view on the food as well. As for architectural sculpture and landscape, I like seeing new places to visit and a new environment is intriguing to me.
Q: Have you been to Japan before? Where did you go? Did you like it?
A: I have not been to Japan before, but I try to make my dream a reality as much as I can in foreign exchange. I have been studying the culture and language quite a bit lately.
Q: What is your personal opinion on Japanese culture?
A: The Japanese culture is so different! It's really interesting to see how people get along in an entirely new way and language. It's really intricate and I find that fun to learn about.
Q: What do you plan to write about in the future? Do you have any plotlines already?
A: I plan to continue Pokemon fanfiction for a while because it's something I really enjoy doing, but I am planning a bit of general fiction. I'm currently working on a plotline to a sequel of The Region of Peace.
Q: Which is your favorite Pokémon type? Why?
A: My favorite type would have to be between the Fire and Dark-Types. I like playing in the game with both of them, considering they're both powerful, and using them in plot, because they each can do a great deal to a plotline (especially Dark-Types).
