Chapter 2
I was having a cup of coffee to start off my day, but then that was interrupted by a hawk flying over my window. I knew that was Lady Tsunade summoning me.
I finished my cup and then put it in the sink, then started getting ready for the day.
I quickly rushed over to the Hokage's Tower and knocked on her door. She didn't like people just walking in on her, I learned that because Konohamaru just walked into her office without knocking and he had to face her temper.
"Come in,"
I opened the door, and she handed Shizune some paperwork. Shizune then walked out of the office.
"Did you have a mission for me?" I ask.
She nodded. "I do, but I wanted to let you know that Jiraiya is coming back today with Naruto. I thought you would like to know, considering the history we all have,"
"When is he supposed to come?" I ask her.
"Later today," She answers. "I know I gave you a couple of days off, but I had no other choice. I need you to assist a team of genin on a mission. Their sensei was injured,"
"Alright, did you call them in already?" I ask.
"I did," She answers. "They should be here shortly,"
There was a knock on the door after she said that.
"Come in!" She says.
The door opened, and three kids walked inside. There were two girls and one boy on this team and they all looked as if they were excited about a new mission. The first girl had shoulder-length green hair, the second one had long black hair, and the boy had shaggy blonde hair.
"What's our mission?" The girl asks impatiently.
"We'll get to that. I'd like to introduce you to Kasumi here," Tsunade said. "Since Ryuken was injured, she will be assisting you three on your mission today,"
They all looked at me, and the boy was looking at me as if he wasn't too happy about their sensei not being able to join them. The girl with the green hair smiled at me, "I'm Akemi,"
"I'm Yui," The second girl introduced.
The boy didn't look at me. "Kensei,"
Akemi elbowed him and glared at him, then quickly looked back at me. "Don't mind him! He's just mad because Ryuken promised to help him with a jutsu, and now he's injured,"
I gave her a polite smile. "It's fine, I get it,"
Tsunade cleared her throat. "Now that we're past introductions, I'll explain your mission. Ryuken told me that there was a change of plans. He wants you three to work on your teamwork, so he's assigned you three to go on some D-ranked missions,"
Kensei huffed but then quickly changed his attitude when Tsunade narrowed her eyes at him. I internally smirked at that.
She picked up a piece of paper from her desk and started reading off the missions."So it's a choice between construction/moving help or catching a thief,"
Yui looked intrigued as soon as Tsunade mentioned catching the thief. "That one,"
"Alright," Tsunade nodded. "This thief has been stealing from a lot of jewelry shops and clothing shops around the village. There have been reports of a suspicious man walking around Shukuba Town, so that might be him,"
Tsunade then further explained what to do after we've caught the thief and then dismissed us. Konohamaru walked past us with Ebisu, and he waved at me. "Hey, Aunt Kasumi!"
"Going on a mission?" I ask with a smile.
He grins. "Yup! I hope it's something exciting, I'm getting bored of D-ranked missions,"
Ebisu knocked on Tsunade's door, and Konohamaru gave me one last wave. The three genin followed me outside, and Akemi spoke up with a bit of a blush on her face.
"Y-You're Konohamaru's aunt?" She asks.
"I am," I replied, raising an eyebrow at the way she was blushing at the mention of his name.
"Oh..."
A small smirk started forming when I realized she had a crush on him. They are around the same age, after all.
Kensei suddenly looked at me as if he put two and two together. "Wait a second, you're his aunt? Then that must mean-!"
"Yes, I am," I answered his question. I already knew he was going to say that I'm the Third Hokage's daughter.
Kensei's demeanor changed, and he looked a little awestruck. "Wow, then I was completely wrong about you! I thought you looked a little young to be a Sensei, so I didn't think you'd be that strong,"
I sweat drop at his response and Akemi gave him another elbow to the chest. She then bowed apologetically to me. "Sorry about him. He's a loudmouth. And uh...sorry about..."
She trailed off awkwardly, and I could tell she felt bad for the last part of her sentence.
"You're fine. I'm alright," I reassured.
Kensei changed the subject and gave Akemi an offended look. "Hey! I'm not a loudmouth!"
Yui snorted. "You know she's right,"
Kensei gave her a glare, and I chuckled at the three genin. I didn't take any offense to Kensei's statement. I was only 20 after all, I know typically an instructor is older than me. Sometimes, they have me take over for one, though, if they need to, like in this case. Ryuken was a jounin that I didn't know very well, and I heard he was sent on a mission that resulted in his injury from some of the others talking about it.
The walk to Shukuba Town took about fifteen minutes and we stopped once we got there to look around.
"So what now?" Yui asks.
"Well, we need to ask around and find out which shops were robbed so we can get a description of the thief," I said.
So we started asking people around and then asked the shopowners who were robbed if they had any info. Apparently, this thief had dark blue hair and was tall and skinny. That kind of narrowed our search down.
"Ugh, how are we ever going to find this guy?" Kensei groaned.
"There's a jewelry shop that my dad went to for my mom's birthday around here. It's a higher-end one, so he could be going there," Akemi said.
"Hey, you're right!" Yui replied. "Apparently, that place has the most expensive jewels in the village. But how are we going to try and catch him there? Surely he's not stupid. I feel like he would know if someone was trying to catch him,"
I nodded in agreement with her. "Exactly, so we need to scope the place out first and talk to the owner of that store. Then disguise ourselves as customers to catch him in the act,"
The four of us went to the store, and the shop owner greeted us. "Hello, how may I help you today?"
"I'm Kasumi," I introduced. "I'm a jounin, and these three are genin who were sent to this area to catch a thief, and we suspect he might come here,"
The shop owner nodded. "Oh, right! The woman who runs the clothing store across the street asked for help to catch him. He hasn't come here yet, but I've been trying to prepare myself,"
The five of us then started talking about a plan to lure him into coming here. The plan was for Kensei and Yui to go loudly talk about a one-of-a-kind diamond outside that was here, and then I would stay behind with Akemi and hide so we could get him off guard.
The genin set up a trap with wire string all over the floors, and then Kensei and Yui left the shop to start talking about the diamond. Akemi and I hid behind the counters.
The thief must've been dumb because not even an hour later, he was already bursting through the doors, demanding and shouting at the top of his lungs for the shop owner to put his hands up. The thief had a kunai and pointed it at the owner.
"Hand over that diamond, old man!" He shouted.
The shop owner nodded and started reaching for his key next to the cash register.
"Hurry up! I don't have all day!" The thief shouted at him again.
Akemi looked over at me, and I gave her a nod.
"Sorry, you won't be getting that diamond," I said, smirking as the thief quickly turned around to face me.
His eyes grew wide as saucers, and he started shakily pointing the kunai in my direction. "Damnit, just what I needed. I won't hesitate to hold the old man hostage, you know!"
I pointed behind him, and he looked, seeing Akemi behind him instead of the shop owner. Our other plan was for her to quietly get him out of the store through the back as I distracted him.
I could tell this man wasn't a ninja. He probably stole that kunai to make himself appear threatening.
He turned and attempted to lunge at Akemi, but he stepped right into the spot where the wire string was set up, and he suddenly couldn't move. "W-What the!"
Kensei then walked inside the store and huffed. "Damn, you guys already started without me?!"
I walked towards the thief, grabbing the kunai out of his hand. "You shouldn't be playing with weapons you don't even know how to use,"
The thief struggled to move, and I tossed the kunai towards Kensei to catch. "You're already caught in our trap, so you have nowhere to run. You're coming with me,"
He glared at me as I cut the wire string and quickly tied his hands together with more wire string so he couldn't escape. The shop owner walked inside with Yui, thanking us for our help. The thief was shouting curses at me the entire time we walked to the Leaf Village's Police Force to drop him off.
He was lucky we didn't have to leave him with Ibiki.
After our mission, we reported back to Lady Tsunade, who then gave us another mission. They had to clean out the Inuzuka's dog kennels. I felt bad for them because I know that pain. I had to do the same mission back when I was a genin.
Kensei was loudly complaining about it the entire time, which resulted in Yui yelling at him to shut up. I was glad I didn't have to do this and only had to supervise them.
