Prologue

Sarah Quincy held her baby in her hands. The baby's brother sat beside her and Sarah's husband was nowhere in sight. "Where is he?" She asked her 8 year old son. "He said he would be back soon." The young boy said, eyes downcast. Sarah knew Malcom Quincy has a busy work schedule, but can't he just visit her for their daughter's birth? "Garrett, come here. Look at Elizabeth." Sarah glowed. Garrett wrinkled his nose. "She looks like a prune." He said. Sarah laughed, he had a funny bone. "You will grow up to do great things." She said as she looked at the baby. The doctor came in. "Let her rest." Dr. Drake Remore said to Garrett as he walked out. "Now, have you named her?" A nurse asked. "Yes, her name is to be Elizabeth." "Alright, we just need the parents' signature." She glanced around the room. "Where is the father?" "Busy. Work and all." Sarah whispered with slight venom as she cradled the baby.

Three years later

Sarah collected her things quietly. She had had enough of the verbal abuse her husband has afflicted on her. Him blaming her for not caring, ha! He's always too busy for everything. "Oh can you pick Garrett up at soccer practice?" "Oh, I'm sorry I can't. You know, work and all ." she thought of that conversation as she crept into Elizabeth's room. "I love you sweet daughter, I hope you grow into a wonderful woman. Have a joyous life full of love and laughter. Be safe and remember me." She kissed her daughter's head. She made her way down to Garrett's room. "Mommy? Is that you?" Sarah looked at her son's face in anguish. "Yes honey, it's me." She sat on the edge of his bed. "Are you leaving?" he asked. Sarah nodded. "Well, I better start packing." Garrett got up and grabbed a suit case. Sarah didn't have enough energy to stop him. They heard Malcolm's snores in the other room as they crept out of the house. Their footsteps echoed in the empty street as the raced to the unknown.
