Funeral
Elizabeth grabbed a black dress and black flats. She wore a black veil and red lipstick. "I'm going to be strong...for Dick." She repeated as she got ready. Selina was dressed similarly with a bit of eyeliner. They got into a limo and the driver drove to the church. "Trip's on the house." He murmured. "Thank you." Selina said and got out. Elizabeth followed quietly. They reached the church and sat down in the back row. As the Priest started the prayer, Elizabeth spotted Dick. He was alone in the front alone. He glanced at Elizabeth, and she saw the tear marks reflecting off the flickering lights above them. She felt like her heart had been ripped out and stomped on until it shattered. The tears she fought to keep in, struggled to get out. She bit her lip trying not to cry out. "Selina Kyle, would you like to say a few words?" The priest asked kindly. Selina stood up and walked down the aisle. Her face somber and a deep frown plastered on her face. "I knew Mary for many years." She started. "She was always happy, generous, nice to Elizabeth," she took a shaky breath. "But most of all, she was loved. Loved by her husband, her friends, and her...her son." Selina's voice cracked. "Thank you." The priest whispered to her as she passed him. Selina didn't say a word and walked back to her row. "Richard? Would you like to say a few words?" He asked. Dick's eyes darkened as he walked up to the podium. He cleared his throat. "I...um..." He glanced at Elizabeth. She nodded encouragingly. "M...My parents were the...b..best...parents I have..." He choked out, grief swirled inside him him. It shook him to him bones. "I cant do this." He jumped off the podium and walked out the side door. A few gasps escaped from the small crowd. Elizabeth jumped to her feet and sprinted to the door. She saw him near the fountain, looking into the semi-clean water. "Dick, you need to go back in there." She whispered. "Why? They all have come to the funeral for me but for what reason? Is it 'Ah he's an orphan' or is it 'I need to save face and come to get more votes politically.' I doesn't make sense!" He yelled. Elizabeth hugged him, her head on his shoulder. "Nothing makes sense in Gotham, Dick." She breathed. He sighed and rested his head on her head. Her heart fluttered slightly."Richard Grayson?" They jumped as someone addressed Dick. Elizabeth turned around to see a handsome young man in a nice suit. "Yes?" Dick said quietly. "I'm Bruce Wayne, I'm sorry for your loss. "It's okay...I heard you payed for this," Dick indicated to the church. "Thank you." "Your welcome. This must be Elizabeth. Nice to see you again." "I wish it had been under better circumstances." Elizabeth stepped closer to Dick. He nodded and walked away. "Elizabeth!" Selina walked towards the taxi. "Be strong. I know what greif is...I lost my whole family, basically. Stick to those who care about you." She kissed his cheek. "Bye Grayson." With that, she walked to Selina's waiting arms. All the while, Dick thought about what she said. 'Stick to those who care about you?' Did she mean herself? He pondered as he was taken to child services.
