Chapter Forty Four

Julius seemed hesitant to follow Nancy to the Hospital Wing, but as the girl gave him a deadly glare, he quickly found himself on his feet.

"What happened to him? Why is he in the Hospital Wing?" He asked Nancy. She glanced over her shoulder at him, before rolling her eyes at him in disbelief.

"Really?" She said before shaking her head. "I can't you don't even have the faintest clue. You haven't noticed how crazed Pierce has made himself since you two stopped talking?"

Julius pressed his lips together in a frown. "I don't-"

"Well, let me give you the rundown, Julius, since you seem to be neglecting the boy who's always been there for you when you needed him too. He hasn't slept in probably last week and a half. I can't remember the last time I actually saw him eat anything. He's not even functioning, all because he wants to talk to you, but you won't give him a second of the day!"

She turned around and poked Julius hard in the chest.

The boy whimpered before rubbing the spot as Nancy fumed before him.

"You kissed him and then walked away from him. You didn't explain anything and you didn't even give him a chance to get his head on straight. Then you proceeded to ignore him. You know he didn't deserve that. Regardless if you meant to kiss him or not, he's your best friend, and right now, this year has been horrible for him. You're the one he counts on a hundred and ten percent all the time. Then you just drop him like he means nothing to you and you stand here before me and ask why he's in the Hospital Wing?"

"I'm sorry!" Julius cried out, looking away from the girl before him.

"I'm not the one you should be apologizing to. You should be telling Pierce sorry. He's been the one waiting to hear from you, not me!"

"But I don't know what to tell him." Julius confided in her. "I haven't figured out what to say, because I'm just as confused as he is."

'What are you talking about?"

"I...All this year, all these feelings have come out of nowhere and I can't make them go anywhere. He's my best friend, or so I thought, but my mind keeps telling me to look at him differently, but I don't want to. He doesn't like me like that, he wants Hermione. You know that-"

"That's not what's been saying as of late!"

"What has he been saying?" A hopeful look swept across his face as he met Nancy's gaze.

"Go talk to him and figure it out for yourself!" She said walking behind him and pushing him forward towards the Hospital Wing.

When the two Ravenclaw students made it to the Wing, Madam Pomfrey glanced over in their direction as they approached her.

"Is Pierce okay?" Julius asked the woman quietly.

"I-" The woman opened her mouth to reply but was caught off by another voice.

"Oh, I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts."

The group turned in the direction to see where Pierce was lying in a bed near the windows, waving his hands about.

"There they are all standing in a row.  " He grabbed at his blanket and pulled it over his head before singing louder.

"Merlin, what's wrong with him?" Julius' eyes were wide. "Was he hexed or something?"

"Oh no," Madam Pomfrey said. "This is just a sleepy deprived state. Luckily, the remedy should be kicking in shortly, which means we will all be relieved of his singing."

"Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head." Pierce laughed to himself. "Give 'em a twist, a flick of the wrist."

The boy flicked his wrist, before dropping it down to his side as he grew drowsy as Madam Pomfrey's draught was doing it's job.

Nancy and Julius exchanged looks before Nancy nodded her head in Pierce's direction, motioning Julius to walk over.

The boy shook his head, but Nancy wasn't taking no for an answer as she shoved him forward.

Julius nearly tripped as he caught himself last second in front of Pierce's bed where the boy was beginning to drift off as his eyes grew heavier and heavier.

"Pierce?"

Slowly, the boy turned his head and faced his best friend with a small smile.

"Jules, you're here." Pierce said in a soft voice as his body was falling into pure relaxation. "Hi."

"Hey," Julius said sitting on the side of the bed. "Are you okay?"

"Don't be silly, Jules," Pierce snorted. "I'm Pierce, remember?"

Julius stifled a laugh as Pierce continued to smile as his eyes closed. "Don't be mad anymore, Julius." he managed to get out. "I'm sorry. You were right, I really am the dumbest person at this school."

"No," Julius swallowed as his voice threatened to crack. "I'm not mad, I was never mad at you. I was...mad with myself and the whole situation. I'm sorry. Just...get some rest, alright? I'm gonna be here when you wake up, I promise."

"Nighty night." Pierce barely got out as he went completely silently.

Julius looked out to where the sun was beaming in through the window.

"Night." He placed his hand over Pierce's with a comforting pat. "Sleep well."
