Chapter Fifteen
Pierce bit at his nails, no matter how many time Julius slapped his hand away from his mouth.
"Stop it, or you're not going to have any fingers. It's just an interview, Pierce."
"Except it's not." Pierce mumbled.
To be stuck in the same room as his mother and be under her questioning for an article sounded like pure hell to the boy. Not only would he have to suffer spending time with her, he knew his mother was going to be extra miserable the entire time. In her letter, she claimed of how proud she was of him for proving how flawed the system was, that he had somehow managed to get around the age line. She believed he entered himself and Harry and wanted to know the exact details of how he did it upon her arrival. He wanted nothing more than to watch her be tramped by an angry hippogriff.
One by one the contestants would have their interview with Rita, and it was unfortunate for Pierce that he was the first one up. Placed in an empty classroom with her, Pierce walked in and refused to sit before her in the chair provided.
"Oh my boy! Pierce!" she grinned, standing up and going over to touch him.
"Don't touch me." he growled in her direction looking away from her.
"Still so bitter. You're a tournament champion and you still can't put a smile on your face. You are your father's son."
"I do smile, Rita, if I find something worth smiling about. Unfortunately, you are not one of those things."
Rita rolled her eyes at him before her wick smirk reappeared on her face.
"So, how did you do it?" she asked him. "How did you get your name in the Goblet?"
"I didn't. I had nothing to do with it-"
"Oh don't lie-"
"I'm not lying! I'm not a liar! I'm not you!" he spat.
The two locked eyes. "I didn't put my name in the Goblet. Someone else did."
"Well of course someone did."
Pierce turned around as the door to the classroom opened revealing Sherlock and John entering.
"Oh Merlin." Pierce pinched the bridge of his nose as the family reunion took place in the room. He looked up and faced his father with a bitter stare.
"Watson, I figured you would be the only one to show up." he said to the other man.
"Your father wanted to be here to support you, Pierce." John told him.
"Really? Is that so? Or was it the fact that he couldn't stand the fact of me going to someone else for help that truly brought him here?"
"You thought you were rather clever with that, didn't you?" Sherlock took a step towards his son. "To use Moriarty and Mycroft as a threat to bring me here."
"It worked, didn't it?" Pierce replied.
"Yes, but not for the reasons that you think." Sherlock told him.
"So I should feel so honored that my father has decided to grace me with his presence?"
"I'm glad we agree on something."
Pierce shook his head at his father before heading towards the door to leave the classroom, but Rita quickly locked the door.
"Not so fast, I need my interview. That's why I'm here."
"Of course!" Pierce laughed. "That's why you're here. Not to support me during this stressful time, you're here to see me squirm under the pressure. You're here to add onto this torturous event with your presence as all mothers would in this situation. What would I do without you, Rita?"
"You'd probably live with this one who would treat you as less of a person than his business partner, here." Rita countered looking at Sherlock.
"Always a delight to see you too." Sherlock said with a small smirk before it faded from his face.
John walked over to the boy who was ready to pull out all his hair.
"Pierce, we're here to help you. We're going to get to the bottom of this whole mess. It's obvious you didn't place your name in the Goblet." John told him. "And neither did Harry, which means this was all a set up."
"Of course it was a set up, if someone thought otherwise they would be a complete idiot."
The men in the room looked at Rita.
The woman stood up with her quill ready to write, right behind her.
"Who would put Pierce's name in the Goblet?"
"We have our fair share of enemies between the both of us, do we not?" Sherlock said.
"Understatement." John muttered under his breath to Pierce.
Pierce listened to his parents bicker back and forth before he had enough and went to leave again.
"Pierce!" his mother called after him.
"Leave me alone!" Pierce said drawing his wand to open the door himself.
"I don't even know what I was thinking when I contacted you." he pointed at his father. "But I obviously wasn't thinking clearly. You two are horrible..horrible people. It's safe to say that the only person I could ever find myself confiding in and actually wanting to be around isn't even related to me by blood. So thank you for coming out here, John. Thank you for actually convincing my father to show up for once. However, even though he is a renowned genius, he still hasn't grasped the concept of parenthood."
The room was quiet for a moment as Pierce continued to fume.
"You two can just go on home and forget that I'm in the tournament. I don't need either one of you here. I'll figure this out myself. I've been doing just fine without either one you acting as a parent for this long, I think I can manage this."
"Don't be stupid-" Sherlock said.
"I'm not being stupid!" Pierce growled at him. "Perhaps it's you who's stupid, Father. I had to threaten bringing other people into the mix in order for you to pay attention to me. You're my father!"
John watched as Sherlock's face became solemn as Pierce began to cry in front of his parents.
"I'm your son! I shouldn't have to be involved in some dangerous, life-threatening situation in order for you to acknowledge that I'm alive!"
The door opened causing everyone to fall silent as another person walked in.
"You're lucky he acknowledges you while you're still breathing, Pierce. Most time he doesn't pay attention unless the person is dead."
"Hey Uncle Mycroft, glad you could join in on the party." Pierce said before brushing by the man and leaving the classroom.
John looked from Mycroft, to Sherlock and lastly to Rita.
"Well, I'm going to let the three of you play catch up, and see if Pierce needs anything before the Wand Weighing Ceremony. Have fun."
