Oviume Rotsap, by all accounts, did his best to be a good person to have around. He liked to look on the bright side of things, and when they were not so, tried to fix them.
So, after hearing about a good friend of his, Arctid Lummen, whom he had been getting closer with each passing day, not being able to see most of his friends, Oviume took it upon himself to see him in person. To take that extra step and try to show Arctid that he cared about him.
A lot. Oviume thought to himself, a violet blush appearing on his face for a moment. ...I'm dealing with those feelings later, I need to focus on getting to him!
Oviume quickly shook himself and kept moving forward, following the coordinates that Arctid had given him.
As Arctid had told him, he ran into a small lumbering town on the way. Trolls of all sorts of colors- though most were of a lower blood- were at work. Gathering lumber and loading it into trucks for shipping into bigger cities.
Oviume was frozen for a minute. Everyone there was so tall. Was Arctid that tall? And muscular? They all looked like they could pick him up without much trouble at all! Could Arctid do that?
"Enjoying the view?" A blue blooded troll asked, eyebrows raising. Oviume yelped, not noticing him before. "Huh, seadweller. Haven't seen any of you guys in awhile. You here to check on the new shipment or something?"
"N-no!" Oviume squeaked out. He ran a hand through his combed back hair. "I... I'm trying to find Arctid's hive?"
The blue blood blinked in surprise. "Arctid? He a friend of yours?" Oviume nodded quickly. "I don't mean to be rude but I didn't think he had very many. Other than that cinnabar blooded one that visits him, nobody else really asks for him."
"He's a good guy once you get to know him." Oviume smiled thinly, still flustered.
"Well, he lives up there." He pointed further up north. "There's a mountain up there, hard to miss. I don't know the exact details of where- never been to his hive before- but I think he actually lives in a cave in the mountain somewhere. Don't know how he does it without freezing to death but hey, whatever works I guess."
Oviume quickly thanked him and started to leave. "He your Matesprite or something?"
Oviume's face flushed, even worse than before. "J-just friends!"
"Hm." The blue blood didn't seem too convinced but shrugged. "Alright, whatever you say. Be safe up there, it can be brutal."
Oviume nodded. He already heard about the snowstorm. He prepped himself with the biggest jacket he had, warm pants and a scarf. He had to have been ready by now, right?
Oviume thanked him once again, then headed up to the mountain with determination.
—
Oviume knew it would be cold but he didn't think about how cold.
The wind caused the snow to whip around him violently. Oviume, who was small for a seadweller, nearly lost his footing more than a dozen times, and actually did twice. He wrapped his arms tightly around himself, trying to see through the thick snow but finding it next to impossible.
The storm was unforgiving. Even if Oviume wished for mercy, it showed none to him. It continued to howl furiously, attempting to knock him off his feet and bury him where he stood.
Oviume had no idea how Arctid could live in this weather. It was next to unbearable.
Oviume glanced down at his communicator and tensed when he saw it had just died on him. "No, no, no!" He whispered, shaking it as if it would suddenly come back to life. But, it didn't, and he whined in frustration. "Not now! Come back, I was so close!"
Oviume lifted his head. He was supposed to meet Arctid not too far from where he was, it had to be around there somewhere right? Even if he was blind in the snow, it couldn't be that bad.
Oviume squinted, looking around. "Hello?" He called out, hoping for an answer.
A second later, a tall figure began to approach in the distance. Oviume sighed in relief. "Whew, I was starting to think I got lost for a second there, but I'm glad to have found you!"
The figure did not respond. Oviume was only a bit nervous until he realized that the closer it grew, the bigger it got. Oviume himself was only 5'6, but the figure? Had to be well over six feet tall.
No, it has to be at least seven or eight feet tall... Oviume's face paled as it got closer. Arctid could be tall but there's no way he's that tall!
Oviume took a step back, then fell into the snow when he took another. His body betrayed his wish to run and instead, stayed exactly still.
The figure stopped right in front of him, eyes glowing red. It was only then that he recognized it as some sort of beast with thick fur and big claws.
Claws that raised into the air, ready to strike and-!
Oviume screamed and barely managed to roll out of the way. A claw snagged on his clothes and created a tear but Oviume was less concerned about that and more concerned about living. Because whatever this thing was, it was just as vicious as the storm around him.
Oviume started to stand and tried to run but the beast was faster. Claws ripped across his back and another cry echoed through the air. Oviume fell flat, face forward, into the snow and felt the sting of the claws. Violet blood began to get everywhere but Oviume still attempted to escape. Deep in the snow, he felt a thick branch underneath him and quickly grabbed it to try and whack the beast with it.
He swung. The beast caught it in its teeth and snapped it like it was a twig. All hope drained out of Oviume.
I'm going to die here! He squeezed his eyes shut as the beast raised its claw to finish the job-
But the blow never came.
Instead, the beast was tackled before it could strike by something a foot smaller but still tall and muscular. The figure pulled out a long blade and when the beast tried to fight back, they plunged it into its throat.
Brown blood spilled everywhere as the beast attempted to roar in pain but instead choked. Barely a moment later, it was still.
The figure pulled out the blade and wiped the blood away quickly before sheathing it again.
They looked to him. It was clear to Oviume that they were a troll but the red goggles they wore threw him off. They wore a thick winter jacket and snow pants. They examined him closely before asking in a low voice, "How bad is it?"
Oviume winced as he tried to stand, still dazed. "If I wasn't a high blood, it would've likely kill me..." Oviume said in a low voice, then paused for a moment. "A-Arctid, is that you?"
Arctid gave a short nod. "Sorry about the SnowBeast. Didn't think there were any around here. They stopped bothering me after I learned to kill them ages ago and they usually don't bother Zinber either. I better fix that up, we should get back to my hive."
Oviume nodded and started to walk forward but Arctid stopped him. "What are you doing." He asked flatly, like it wasn't even a question.
"Following you back to your hive?" Oviume answered hesitantly. Was there something he was missing?
Arctid rolled his eyes. "With that injury? No. First of all, I'm cleaning it up." Arctid shrugged off his main jacket and started to wrap it around Oviume. "This should help with the bleeding."
"But your jacket-!"
"We're not that far. I'll live. I've been through worse than this. And secondly, you're certainly not walking with it. I'll carry you."
Oviume found his face heating up for the fourth time that day. "W-what? I'm okay to walk you know! You don't have t-OO!"
Oviume didn't get to finish as Arctid ignored him and promptly gathered him into his arms and held him up, bridal style. Oviume clung to him tightly, eyes wide and his mouth unable to say anything intelligible. Arctid didn't say much as he started walking, eyes focused on ahead of him.
Despite the chilling blizzard, Oviume learned two things:
One, he should really learn the dangers of a new environment before trying to travel through it,
And two, that Arctid was very warm when you got close to him.

Me when writing angst:
Brain: Add Fluff
Me: ????
Yeah that got out of hand but dang it, these are fun to do and I've been dying to write some of these characters.
The two characters shown become a couple later on btw, which is the main reason why I couldn't resist fluff. I love them so much.
ANYWAYS, thank you for reading! If you have any questions, feel free to ask and if you have comments, please give them to me! Anyways, goodbye!
