Turn Around
She ran down the hall of the train station, a suitcase containing all her belongings in tow.
Time was running out; He was leaving tonight and would not return. The train was departing in twelve minutes.
It may have been four in the morning. She may have chosen not to move in with Him. But she still loved Him, and that would not change, ever.
The train was departing in eight minutes.
Security checks took two minutes. Finding the right terminal took another two. Another check cut a minute off her time. Then, boarding the train.
Three minutes left.
There were people everywhere, but she'd always had a sixth sense. Closing her eyes, she 'saw' a light... that way. She ran down the aisle.
"Hello, sir, can I trade spots with you?" There was a middle-aged man, maybe thirty-five, sitting next to Him. She spoke softly enough so that He didn't hear her through his earbuds, but loudly enough so that the man could.
The man nodded, and asked for her seat number. She told him it, and then she was sitting next to Him. Her heart began to beat faster.
The train began to move. Her phone buzzed. She looked down at it to see that He had said 'Goodnight," in Chinese characters, their tradition for the last six years.
Responding 'Goodnight' in return, she added, 'Look up.'
Then, He turned around, saw her, and hugged her tightly enough to suffocate her. She didn't mind.
