Ebloodale

I woke up with a ache in my neck. I miss sleeping on a bed. I hope the kingdom is restored soon so Ash and I can go home.

Will we be living like this forever, in hiding? Will we ever again live with the comfort of not having a price tag above our heads? Maybe. If we can overthrow Jalen. I realise what needs to happen in order to save both myself and my kingdom.

I get up and stretch. I help Ash down to the muddy river bank where we smear mud on our faces as a mask and through our hair making mine a dark brown and Ash's almost black.

I stand up, ready.

"So," I say to Ash, "you will wait at the mouth of the cave, and I'll go get a doctor and bring them here. Remember. You're Theodore Evard. You've been traveling for a while when you were attacked and where too weak to find help. I'm Emma Stewart and I've been camping in the forest for the past few days and I only just found you. Got it?"'

"Got it."

"Good." I help him up and bring him to the mouth of the cave. "Well, see you in-" i stop and think. How long will I be? "See you when I get back!" I smile, ignoring the butterflies thrashing in my stomach.

"Right." Ash says, giving me the same nervous smile I just have him. "I love you."

"I love you too." I lean down and peck him on the cheek then stand up and make my way west.

People are everywhere.

I'm actually glad there are so many because they hide me from the two or three guards I find sulking down the street.

It's been a year and a half, it looks like Jalen hasn't given up on catching us.

I look around and finally I find it. The doctors. I walk against the flow of the crowd with the occasional "watch where you're going!"s and "oi!"s. But I get there.

I open the door and a little bell tinkle above the door. There is a man sitting on a chair in the corner who every few seconds lets out aloud wheezing cough. A lady sits behind a desk shifting though a stack of paper, a pen in her mouth. I approach the desk.

"Excuse me?" I say.

"What?" The woman snaps back distractedly.

"Erm... I was out camping in the forest and I found a man with a really badly infected cut on his leg this morning. He wasn't able to get help so I said I would get help for him so... yeah..." God that sounded pathetic, I thought. The lady didn't appear to have been paying attention. I clear my throat loudly.

"Yes ok, ok!" She says finally dumping the papers on the already messy desk and storming through a door behind the desk.

I sit down a few seats from the man who punctured the awquard silence with another heaving splutter.

A man in a white coat comes around the corner of a hallway on the opposite wall. "Mr. Burns?" He asks and Mr. Burns gets up with another wheeze.

"Excuse me, ma'am?" The flustered woman was back and this time she had a man in a white coat behind her. "This is  Dr. Fraser. He will help that injured man in the forest." She talked oddly quickly.

"Right, thanks," I say. The woman nods at Dr. Fraser then goes back to her desk.

"Well, lead the way!" Dr. Fraser gestured towards the door and I lead him out.

Dr. Fraser examined the gash of Ash's leg. I stood back, hoping he would be able to help Ash.

"This is very badly infected. Though it would've gotten worse if you had left it any longer, he probably wouldn't've made it." The doctor stated as he dabbed something onto Ash's cut which made him wince.

My heart skips a beat. I could've lost him. If I hadn't found him when I did, I would've lost Ash.

I mentally thank the guards that chased me off the train and into the forest. If that hadn't happened, I wouldn't've found Ash.

Dr. Fraser bandaged up Ash's leg. "There. That should do it. Now take it easy on that leg. The bandages must be changed every day and this ointment must be applied every time you change the bandages. Can you do that?" He hands me a few rolls of bandages and a bottle that had a faint yet foul smelling liquid inside.

"Right," I nod and take the items.

"Well, i've gotta go." Dr Fraser packed up his things and stood up. "I hope you get better soon mr- er..."

"A-" I give Ash a sharp tap with my foot. "Er, Theodore," he corrected and rubbed his shin while giving me a death stare. I give him a 'you-should've-remembered-then' look.

"Well, goodbye, Theodore." Dr. Fraser waved and began to make his way back to Ebloodale.

I turn to Ash. "Let's hope no guards show up before your leg  heals!" I grin. I sit down next to Ash and give him a kiss on the cheek. "See? No problem! Told you my plan would succeed!"

"Don't jinx it," Ash held a finger up to my lips and grinned at me.

"Don't worry, I won't!" I push his hand out of my face and smile. He puts his arm around my neck and wer sit at the mouth of the cave listening to the birds sing.
