I woke up late the next morning. I looked over at my clock- 10:30. I usually woke up a lot earlier than that. I quickly got dressed and zoomed down the stairs. I scurried into my kitchen to grab some breakfast and was surprised to see Brian there, talking to my mom.
"Well, good morning, sleeping beauty," Brian said, smiling.
"Good morning, honey," my mom got up and greeted me," I let Brian in and we got to talk a bit. I made you some breakfast, too. But I guess I'll leave you two alone right now."
"Ok. Thanks mom."
I quickly grabbed some pancakes and bacon and sat down across from Brian.
"So," he started," are you ready for your surprise?"
"Oh! I completely forgot," I said with a mouth full of food.
He bent down and grabbed something from under his chair. But he stopped before he showed it to me.
"By the way," he asked," what's your favorite color?"
"Green."
"Perfect."
He then pulled out a guitar with a familiar resemblance to his red special guitar, except it was a deep green color.
"I made this for you." He said handing it to me over the table.
"What?" I replied, almost choking on my food.
"For real?"
"Yes. Just for you."
I just stared, marveling at its beauty. The green colors glimmered and seemed to bounce from light to dark as the light reflected off it.
"Are you just going to stare at it?"
"Oh sorry. I'm just so surprised!"
I grabbed it and then set it aside so I could get up and thank him. I gave him a tight hug and then went to pick up the guitar again.
"Would you like to jam, Elle? I brought my guitar, too."
I didn't say anything but only nodded. I was too excited for words. I couldn't believe what was happening.
We both went into my basement where I kept all my amps and guitars. We plugged in, got tuned up, and started to play.
It was wonderful, just playing some good old tunes with him. We even wrote a couple of songs. Sure, they weren't record material. But they were pretty good for the first songs I'd ever written, even though Brian helped a bit. (Ok, a lot...)
We stayed down there all day. He taught me some new techniques like pinch harmonics and sweep picking. The only thing I could really teach him was to use his pinky finger more because as I watched him play, it was rarely ever used.
I looked over at the clock and I couldn't believe my eyes. It was 4:00. We completely forgot about life outside of music. But I guess that was fine because for both of us, music was everything.
