Chapter 7
News started spreading about new leads in regards to Debbie's case. It was now late May and David's brother, Richard came into the picture with allegations.
It first began when Richard went to church confession. Richard couldn't keep it in any longer. David had confined in Richard on March 27 that they would find Debbie dead and it would look like an accident.
For 6 weeks, Richard kept his statement up as he knew nothing. But, slowly inside, this information David gave Richard had ate his brain up.
Word from the priest who held the confession stayed anonymous and went to Detective May.
May of course wasn't sure how to take the information. But, May was the lead investigator. The number one suspect from the beginning should have been David. But, his alibis had checked out. But now, everything would be on the line.
News of these allegations were broke to the Matthews. Zelda and Harley were kind of surprised but at the same time, not surprised. They called them back down to the station yet again.
"Mrs. Matthew, has David ever shown signs of abuse towards Debbie, or were there any behavior changes in David recently?" May asked her.
"Well Detective May, at the church service for Debbie. David was more aggressive then normal," Zelda spoke during the interview.
"Were you aware of the restraining order Debbie had gotten against David in January after she filed for divorce? When he broke the key in the door lock after the restraining order was filed and she had changed the door locks?" May questioned.
"Yes we were aware. All of us. We knew David had a temper," Zelda said.
"On January 8th, the district court had an affidavit that Debbie was filing the restraining order because I quote she said David "had a fierce and ungovernable temper, struck me with an electrical cord and otherwise physically abused me and menaced me such that I fear for my physical and emotional well being if he is not restrained against such action," " Detective May read off.
"Yes, Detective May we were aware of this order. We often worried for Debbie but because she had filed for divorce, we all thought she had found her freedom," Zelda explained.
"So did you guys suspect David was the murderer all along?" May asked Zelda.
"No we didn't. We just assumed David had issues handling grief," Zelda responded.
"I think that's all we need from you Mrs. Matthews. Thank you," May stuck his hand out to thank Zelda.
Zelda's statements were the final nail for Detective May. He finally had evidence enough to have David Kingston arrested in connection in killing his estranged wife Debbie.
It would be a few days before David's warrant for his arrest would be pushed out.
Detective May from the beginning suspected David was the killer. However, evidence only proved enough that Debbie committed suicide till the autopsy came out. It was also hard for May's suspicion to be true because they were called out first on a a sucipious death.
During the initial investigation, May and other people on scene had smelled a strong odor on upon entry.
Detective Billy Reese was someone else on scene of the initial investigation and upon searching the house, they found engine starter fluid in the garage. They later found out the engine starter fluid was from David's work.
They found a dust print ring of the can on the shelf where it had been prior to the murder.
The other problem May began having was the circumstance of Debbie's family. They all were in and out of the house after the initial crime was committed. There was little to no time for everyone to see that David was the killer.
It became obvious that David Kingston wasn't innocent anymore. He willful and deliberately killed Debbie. But, justice would take it's sweet time.
