Chapter 2
Trying to make sense of what happened, the detectives stayed on scene at Debbie's house and took interviews with witnesses. At this point, they did not have any suspects. When they questioned David, her ex-husband (the divorce papers were not final yet), he had been at his mother's house. He'd been staying there since Debbie and him separated.
Debbie's brothers Donny and Sean were talked to and they had no idea who or what could have taken place. The horrible thing is there was no evidence of what happened except possible suicide at this moment. Donny knew his sister better then that.
"Debbie had no enemies," Donny told one of the detectives.
"She loved life. Debbie and her kids were going to go to Disney Land with our mom and dad this summer. She finally was becoming happy. There is no reason she'd take her life," Sean told the detectives as well.
Word finally got to Debbie's elementary school. They had to let the kids know that Mrs. Kingston would be absent. They had to contact the grief counseling team to let the parents know of Debbie's class of what had happened.
Daymon was going to be kept out of classes the rest of the week as the Kingston/Matthews family had to make funeral plans for a soul gone too soon.
Zelda and Harley were beyond griefstricken. The accusations of their daughter committing suicide was ridiculous.
Zelda was asked to go to the station to do an interview with detectives.
"I had spoken to Debbie around 9 or 10 last night. I called to double check to make sure I was still babysitting the grandkids today. She was doing her normal night routine. Debbie sounded normal to me," Zelda spoke.
"Do you know if she had any enemies?" Detective May asked.
"No I don't think so. But, Debbie wouldn't have killed herself. Just wait for the autopsy because I know my baby wouldn't drown herself," Zelda pleaded with May.
"Would any of her children be capable to come in for an interview?" May asked Zelda.
"The twins are only 3 1/2 but her oldest Daymon might he's 6," Zelda said.
"Ok we will call David to talk to Daymon about what he might of seen," Detective May told her.
Zelda left the station, still upset. The autopsy wouldn't be in for a few days at least. How would she and Harley prove Debbie was killed?
Harley and Zelda drove over to the funeral home to get the arrangments started. Sean had made the appointment for them.
"We shouldn't be burying our children," Harley said quietly as they drove up to French's Funeral Home.
"No we shouldn't be," Zelda said paralyzed in her seat.
"We'll get through it though," Harley said staring at the doors of the funeral home.
Meanwhile, Daymon was at his other grandma's house with his dad David, waiting for the detectives. Could little Daymon have the evidence to blow the case wide open?
"Her heart gave out. I know she had some heart problem according to her brother Donny," David kept repeating to himself.
"What daddy?" Daymon asked.
"Nothing son, go play with your brothers till the detectives get here," David instructed his son.
David's mom fixed the kids lunch and they all went outside to play.
"David the detectives are here," David's mom hollered across the house.
David went and got Daymon in to sit down with the detectives.
"Hello Mr. Kingston," Detective May said at the door.
"Come in please," David said opening the screen door.
Daymon was on the couch, slient. The children haven't absorbed what is really going on.
"So Daymon we want to ask you some questions," May asked squatting in front of Daymon on the couch.
"Ok?" Daymon responded.
"What was your mommy doing last night?" May asked.
"Mommy always clears our room from monsters. We don't like them and she always reads us this bigggggg story book," Daymon said gesturing with his hands wide.
"Was your mommy acting like your mommy?" May asked Daymon.
"Mommy was mommy she read us our story, cleared away the monsters and kissed us good night," Daymon responded.
"Was there anything unsual after that? Did you see any monsters?" May asked him.
"No I didn't," Daymon said.
"David can we have you leave the room for a moment while we talk to Daymon?" May asked.
"Yeah I guess," David said getting up hastily.
Detective May would struggle to get any true evidence from Daymon.
