Chapter 1
The morning came with a early sunrise. The sun beat into the children's room. There was silence around the house. Usually by now, breakfast would be made. Debbie would have been drinking her second cup of coffee before getting the kids to their destinations.
Daymon woke up, quiet confused. For being only 6 years old, he knew something wasn't right. He looked in his mom's bedroom and she was not to be found. Daymon went down the hall to the bathroom and found the door to be locked. The only thing Daymon could think was to call his dad.
Daymon called his dad David to see if he knew where mommy might be. David immediately called the neighbor Joanna and she came over right away. Daymon brought Joanna to the bathroom.
"I think mommy might be in there. She hasn't responded," Daymon said.
The twin boys were still in the bedroom, sound asleep.
"Debbie? Are you ok?" Joanna knocked on the door quietly.
"Mommy?" Daymon asked again through the door.
"Debbie if you don't respond, I'm going to barge the door open," Joanna gave the command.
"I'm going to make sure Daniel and Dustin are still ok," Daymon said running to the room down the hall.
Joanna was kind of pacing in front of the bathroom door. She had her hand on her forehead, worried if Debbie was ok or not. She searched the house for something to bust the door open. In the garage, she found a barbeque skewer.
"Debbie, I'm coming in," Joanna said covering her eyes and opening the bathroom door with the skewer.
"OH MY GOD DEBBIE," Joanna screamed in horror.
Debbie lay their in the bath tub submerged, unconscious with her knees tucked to her stomach, clutching a bottle of perfume with whiskey nearby.
"Mommy?" Daymon asked from the bathroom door way.
"Uhm Daymon please go get me the phone. Your mommy seems to have had an accident," Joanna said breathing hard.
"Mommy ok?" Daymon asked.
"Get me the phone ok Daymon so we can get someone to see if your mommy is ok?" Joanna said shrieking.
Daymon went to the kitchen and grabbed the phone.
"Debbie? DEBBIE! Come on please answer me," Joanna asked as she tried feeling for a heartbeat.
Daymon came back with the phone and Joanna called 911 right away.
The Albuquerque Police and EMT's shortly arrived on scene. Joanna called Zelda and told her the horrible news.
Zelda and her husband Harley arrived fast on scene to find that Debbie's husband David was already there waiting with the boys.
"What happened?" Zelda questioned David.
"Her old heart finally gave out," David said while the twin boys hugged their grandparents.
"There is no way," Harley said stunned shaking his head.
"Well Mr. Kingston, there is no signs of forced entry so we are thinking it could be a suicide," the detective explained.
"MY DAUGHTER WOULD NEVER HAVE DONE THAT," Zelda screamed.
"Well until the autopsy is done Mrs," the detective said.
"It's Mrs. Matthew," Zelda said through sobs.
"Mrs. Matthew, until the autopsy is completed, we cannot rule out anything. Debbie was in the tub, with whisky. She could have gotten alcohol poisoning or drowned due to intoxication," the detective calmly explained.
"YOU ARE WRONG DETECTIVE MY BABY DEBBIE WOULD HAVE NEVER KILLED HERSELF. SHE LOVED HER BOYS, SHE LOVED LIFE," Zelda said as she charged at the detective.
Harley grabbed Zelda to try and console her.
"Grandma, is mommy sleeping?" Dustin asked Zelda.
Zelda sighed, "Dustin honey, well sort of."
Zelda and Harley didn't know how to explain to their grandchildren that their mommy was sleeping forever.
Shortly after, David left with the boys while the scene investigators took more photos and collected evidence.
Zelda and Harley talked with Debbie's neighbor Joanna.
"There was no noise last night," Joanna told Zelda as she gave her some water.
"There is no way she killed herself," Zelda kept repeating to herself.
It was going to be a long Wednesday explaining that Debbie Kingston, beloved teacher, mother and daughter, was not returning to class at Mojave Elementary.
