the sun had finally begun to set just before evening approached, as the winter time gave less and less sunlight and people were starting to leave the party. there was still a good amount of people lingering around, talking, drinking, yun stuck to jaemins side as ren came over and wiggled herself in between the two and slung her arm over their shoulders.
"so," she began, "after party? my place?"
yun scoffed playfully, a chuckle following right after. she knew her friend well enough to know she'd never pass an opportunity for partying, especially after a long night of hanging around middle aged people. yun knew well enough that she wouldn't either. "i can't say no, can i?"
"nope. parents are gone until tomorrow and i have a little bit of alcohol. we can't still smoke around jisung, can we?" she asked, more concerned for the boy than feeding her craving for the plant.
"nah, he's still not that comfortable being around it." jaemin jumped in, peering down at the two girls next to him. "will you guys be okay? since you know, you're potheads, and all?"
ren shot a glare at the taller and hit him on the head before yun got a chance to, the girl laughing at the sight as jaemins hand flung up to hold the spot she smacked. "kidding! ow!"
"whatever. i'm gonna—" ren removed her arms from their bodies as she turned a bit to search for jeno in the small crowd. eyes landing on him instantly, but he was still accompanied by haeryung. "well, i was gonna ask jeno, but."
the couple turned their heads in the same direction as her, not so secretly either, flickering their glances back and forth from ren and the family friends with mischievous smirks playing over their lips. "you smell that, jaemin?"
the boy didn't hesitate to play along, sniffing the air slightly before a look of realization fell over his face. "oh yeah. that's some strong jealousy right there."
rens mouth fell open in defense, immediately feeling her cheeks and ears heat up. "i'm not jealous, assholes." though the blush flowing across her face was giving her away. "fuck off."
giggles erupted from the pair as ren practically stomped the other way, deciding to leave it up to them to ask jeno if he'd be free after the holiday party. so they did, taking a brief moment to interrupted his and haeryungs conversation to invite them both. they explained sadly how they had to stick around after everyone left his home to help clean up, their annoyed tones expressing they'd much rather be doing anything else.
with her hand tangled in jaemins, yun lead him through the house to the front door where the others had been waiting about 15 minutes later, the house visibly much more empty which meant it was time for them to go.
after a final goodbye to jeno and his parents, the group were off into separate cars to rens home, the place that became the hang out spot since they've been on break.
"where's kyong?" was the first to be asked from danbi as everyone gathered in the living room, immediately making themselves comfortable.
"i brought her home," haechan answered quickly, keeping his eyes everywhere but danbis as she nodded, not quite understanding why she didn't come but didn't push it any further.
on the other hand, yun knowing about the tension between the two made her wonder if they were ever going to go back to normal, and she couldn't help but feel it was her that got in between the two.
she quickly shook the negative thoughts out of her head before she got too deep into her feelings, taking a seat on rens couch while pulling jaemin down with her. he comfortably placed a hand on her thigh and got as close as he possibly could, not phased whatsoever by the action nor by yuns reaction. she suddenly became stiff as a bored.
"snacks," jisung announced suddenly, getting up from his spot not even minutes after sitting down, "i want snacks."
"right this way, sir," ren sneered playfully, leading him into the kitchen before she sat down herself.
"that was actually the most boring party i've ever been to," yangyang began, sparking conversation in the silent room.
"that's because it was a holiday party meant for relatives, and jeno was just nice enough to invite us, dipshit." yuanzi declared as yangyang made mocking gestures towards the girl, to which she gave them back.
"well it was boring, dipshit."
the atmosphere became more comfortable as time went on, talking amongst themselves and ren coming back with a few bottles she snagged from her parents alcohol cabinet, the one she knew for sure they never touched.
no one thought anything of it when everyone, besides jisung who insisted that the alcohol wasn't the problem and he couldn't care less if they drank around him, began to feel themselves getting a buzz and everyone progressively got gigglier. that was until haechan noticeably took more swigs from the bottle than the rest, clearly intending on getting more drunk than he needed to be.
"hey, that's enough," jaemin warned, his tone turning from friendly to strict when he reached out to take the bottle of vodka from his hands. the other snatched it back further from jaemin with drunken movements and went for another drink.
"hyuck, i'm serious."
"don't tell me what to do." his words were slurred and the look he gave to jaemin was everything but inviting, his free hand going up to catch his before the bottle could be taken away.
jaemin scanned the other faces in the room, feeling defeated once he realized his friend wasn't going to let go of the bottle anytime soon. "you ruin everything." haechan mumbled.
"what?"
"you heard me."
now everyone had their attention on the two, jaemins face contorting into confusion, though he felt like there was a much deeper meaning to the sentence. "okay. you're drunk, you don't know what you're talking about."
"fuck off," the boy spat, "we both know what i'm talking about." his grasp finally released on the bottle, setting it down on the table before taking a step further to jaemin.
afraid he was going to begin getting physical, mark stepped up in an instant and took a hold of haechans wrist. the boy wobbled around, visibly more gone than everyone else and hardly processed mark pulling him away into a separate room.
"what... the fuck." jisung cursed, leaned off of the couch in curiosity with wide eyes.
"what's going on with him?" danbi murmured. she didn't expect an answer, they were all just extremely confused and couldn't help but wonder what the sudden outburst was about.
"i think," ren began, words slurred the same as haechans just not as aggressive, "i think that's our sign to call it a night."
"we have to leave?" sungchan asked, a visible frown forming across his face.
the drunken girl couldn't hold back a small smile at the pout. "you don't have to, i just meant no more alcohol."
though it was getting later in the night, everyone silently agreed that there really was no reason to go home considering ren would be alone in her house until the next day anyways. amongst another silent moment, yeongcheol let out a loud sigh before standing up. "i need a blunt."
"no smoking around the little ones," renjun joked.
"little ones? as in...?"
before anyone could jump in and explain that certain people didn't want to be around a certain activity, jisung was quick to protest. "i don't care if you do it. i mean, if you want to. it doesn't bother me anymore." the boy discretely rubbed his moist palms on his jeans, feeling nerves rise when all heads turned in his direction.
"you sure, ji?" yun asked.
"i'm sure."
yeongcheol had not a single clue why jisung would be uncomfortable with being around it, but he was clearly so eager to do so he didn't really care anyways. "well, any objections? i always have a spare."
"you kept a pre-rolled blunt in your pocket while we were around a bunch of rich old people?" yuanzi scoffed, eyes of disbelief at the boy pulling out said blunt from his pocket with a grin.
yun couldn't pull her eyes away from jisung as he chewed on his bottom lip, his knee bouncing up and down, clear nervous habits she noticed after being around him for a while. she figured he must have not wanted to seem like a buzzkill, knowing he was someone who hated confrontation anyways and would rather just avoid it all together.
"i would rather if you did it outside, or something," the girl jumped in.
"outside? it's like 20 degrees outside," yeongcheol scoffed, "jisung just said he's fine with it. it's cool."
"well i'm not, and i'd prefer it if you just go outside or wait until you get home."
as if the tension after haechan wasn't enough, yuns strong personality caused more of a shift in the air as the boy stared at her for a minute before speaking again. "i thought you... i thought you did it yourself? for what reason do you have to be uncomfortable?"
"it's really not that serious, just wait until you get home, cheol." said yangyang, head leaned against the couch and eyes closed in an attempt to drown out the sound.
"so i have to wait, when she could just leave? why is that fair?" he whaled back.
"because it's not that big a fucking deal, bro, it's weed. get over it." yangyang stated blankly.
no one knew it, but yeongcheol was beginning to completely despise the two girls he once declared a disliking to. the fact that no one in the room was taking his side over something as ridiculous as it was, only irritated him more.
"okay," he grumbled, picking up his phone and keys from the table, "if you're gonna let her be a cunt then fine, bye."
yuns mouth dropped open as everyone watched him stomp out of the house, slamming the door behind him much too dramatically. "is he fucking serious?"
